LSU overcomes slow start to breeze past New Orleans in midweek blowout

After four scoreless innings, the Tigers erupted to capture a 16-0 win in the final game before conference play.

It has been said that anything done three or more times becomes a pattern. If that is true, the LSU Tigers have a habit of getting to the bottom of the sixth or seventh inning and deciding they are ready to end the game.

The Tigers used a seven-run bottom of the sixth inning to blast New Orleans 16-0 in the last game before conference play starts this weekend.

[autotag]Chase Shores[/autotag] got the start on the mound but only pitched 2.1 innings before [autotag]Garrett Edwards[/autotag] came in for him in the third inning. Neither of them gave up a run and they gave up a combined 2 hits on 7 strikeouts and one walk.

Neither team scored a run until the bottom of the fifth inning when [autotag]Tommy White[/autotag] hit a three-run bomb to left field to score [autotag]Dylan Crews[/autotag] and [autotag]Paxton Kling[/autotag] to make the game 3-0 after five innings.

That was the shot in the arm that the LSU offense needed. In the bottom of the sixth inning, [autotag]Jordan Thompson[/autotag], [autotag]Jared Jones[/autotag], and [autotag]Alex Milazzo[/autotag] scored on a throwing error, Kling scored on a [autotag]Tre Morgan[/autotag] flyout, Crews scored on a White single, and [autotag]Gavin Dugas[/autotag] hit a two-run homer to make it 10-0 after six innings.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, [autotag]Josh Pearson[/autotag] hit a two-RBI double to left, [autotag]Brayden Jobert[/autotag] walked to bring home a run, [autotag]Jack Merrifield[/autotag] walked, and [autotag]Hayden Travinski[/autotag] hit a two-RBI double to make it 16-0.

[autotag]Riley Cooper[/autotag], [autotag]Blake Money[/autotag], and [autotag]Christian Little[/autotag] got some work out of the bullpen in the final three innings. They finished off the scoreless night as the Tigers won 16-0.

SEC play starts this weekend as the Tigers travel to Texas A&M for their first series. The first pitch for that series is scheduled for Friday night at 6 p.m. CT.

Another spectacular start for Paul Skenes leads LSU past Samford in Game 1

Skenes moved to 4-0 this season after a big win over the Samford Bulldogs on Friday night.

Skenes finished the game with six innings pitched allowing 2 hits, 1 run, and 1 walk. He had double-digit strikeouts once again as he finished the game with 12.

LSU started the scoring in the bottom of the first inning when [autotag]Gavin Dugas[/autotag] scored after a couple of walks and a throwing error. The score remained 1-0 LSU until the top of the third inning when Samford scored on a wild pitch to tie the game.

LSU scored again in the bottom of the fourth inning when [autotag]Paxton Kling[/autotag] scored on a [autotag]Jack Merrifield[/autotag] sacrifice fly. In the bottom of the fifth inning, [autotag]Jared Jones[/autotag] hit a two-run bomb to run the lead up to 5-1 LSU.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, LSU decided they were ready to call it a night. The Tigers scored six runs to enforce the run rule. [autotag]Tre Morgan[/autotag] hit an RBI single to score Kling, [autotag]Tommy White[/autotag] hit a two-RBI double to score Crews and Morgan, White scored on a throwing error, and Bear Jones hit a walk-off two-run homer to give LSU an 11-1 victory.

With the win, LSU moves to 13-1 on the season. The Tigers will take on Samford again Satu night at 6:30 p.m. CT.

LSU had a nice Saturday cruise in Baton Rouge as it run-ruled Central Connecticut 26-4 in seven innings.

[autotag]Ty Floyd[/autotag] got the start on the mound for LSU and other than giving up a solo homer in the first inning, he had a pretty good day. His final line was 5.2 innings pitched, three hits, one run, and six strikeouts.

In the bottom of the first, LSU made sure that the Central Connecticut lead didn’t last long. [autotag]Dylan Crews[/autotag] hit an RBI double to left field to score [autotag]Tre Morgan[/autotag] to tie the game. That was followed by [autotag]Tommy White[/autotag]’s first homer as a member of LSU as he hit a two-run shot to right field to make it 3-1 after the first inning.

In the bottom of the second, [autotag]Gavin Dugas[/autotag] hit a three-run shot to left field and Morgan scored on a sacrifice bunt by [autotag]Jordan Thompson[/autotag] to extend the lead to 7-1. The onslaught continued in the third inning as Dugas hit an RBI single and then scored on a wild pitch. Tommy Tanks then hit his second homer of the game as he hit a three-run bomb to right to make it 12-1 after three innings.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, [autotag]Paxton Kling[/autotag] hit an RBI triple down the left field line to score [autotag]Brady Neal[/autotag] and Morgan hit an RBI single to right to score Kling and make it 14-1. In the bottom of the fifth, [autotag]Cade Beloso[/autotag] hit a two-run homer to right field, Neal scored on a wild pitch, and [autotag]Josh Stevenson[/autotag] and [autotag]Jack Merrifield[/autotag] scored on a two-RBI double by [autotag]Ethan Frey[/autotag] to make it 19-1 LSU.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, [autotag]Josh Pearson[/autotag] hit an RBI single to score [autotag]Hayden Travinski[/autotag], [autotag]Alex Milazzo[/autotag] got an RBI on a sacrifice fly, Stevenson hit an RBI single, Merrifield got an RBI on a sacrifice fly, Frey hit an RBI single to left and then scored on a wild pitch, and Beloso hit an RBI single to right field to make it 26-1 as we headed to the seventh inning.

[autotag]Bryce Collins[/autotag] stayed on the mound to try to get the final three outs, but the inning didn’t go as planned as the Blue Devils scored three more runs on him. Eventually, the Tigers won big over Central Connecticut. The Tigers will play Central Connecticut State tomorrow at 1 p.m. CT in the third game of the weekend.

LSU falls to Southern Miss in regional final rematch, Game 7 set for Monday afternoon

The Tigers couldn’t pull off a third straight comeback and will play with their season on the line Monday.

The LSU Tigers entered Sunday night’s game just one win away from advancing to the super regionals.

Just like on Saturday night, they trailed heading into the ninth inning against Southern Miss. But this time, there was no late-inning magic to win the game as the Golden Eagles won 8-4 and sent the regional to a winner-take-all Game 7 tomorrow at 3 p.m. CT.

The Tigers started the game off strong with a two-run [autotag]Cade Doughty[/autotag] dinger in the top of the first inning before [autotag]Samuel Dutton[/autotag] took the mound. In the bottom of the second, Southern Miss tied the game 2-2 with a couple of runs before chasing Dutton from the mound after only 2.1 innings.

In the top of the third inning, [autotag]Dylan Crews[/autotag] scored on a Doughty single to give the Tigers the lead once again and Pearson scored on a passed ball to make it 4-2 LSU.

In the bottom of the third, the Golden Eagles scored two runs and tied the game once again. The 4-4 score would hold until the bottom of the sixth inning when [autotag]Eric Reyzelman[/autotag] came in to pitch after [autotag]Riley Cooper[/autotag] walked the first batter.

Southern Miss proceeded to score three runs and make it a 7-4 game. In the bottom of the eighth, [autotag]Blake Money[/autotag] came in out of the bullpen, and he was greeted with a Golden Eagles home run to make it 8-4 as we headed to the top of the ninth.

[autotag]Jack Merrifield[/autotag], Crews, and [autotag]Jacob Berry[/autotag] were due up for the Tigers. Merrifield struck out looking, Crews struck out looking, Berry singled, Pearson was hit by a pitch and Doughty grounded out as the Tigers lost 8-4.

Game 7 will be tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m. CT. The winner goes to the super regional to take on the winner of Miami and Ole Miss, and the loser goes home.

Report: No. 1 college prospect Jacob Berry out indefinitely for LSU with an injury

Berry will be unavailable indefinitely after suffering a broken finger in practice.

LSU was all set to enter Game 2 against the Alabama Crimson Tide fully loaded coming off of a win in Game 1.

But when the lineup came out, it caused concern among Tigers fans as star third baseman [autotag]Jacob Berry[/autotag] was nowhere to be seen. According to a report from The Advocate’s Leah Hannah, Berry broke a finger in his right hand and will be unable to bat left-handed, meaning he will be out indefinitely.

Berry is one of the best players on the team and he is ranked as the No. 1 college player according to MLB.com.

With only three SEC series left (‘Bama, Ole Miss and Vandy), the Tigers are looking to improve their SEC and national seeding. Berry is a guy you need in that stretch.

The longevity of his injury is unknown, but this is awful news for a team that is looking to go on a winning streak. [autotag]Jack Merrifield[/autotag] will play third base for the time being. Game 2 against Alabama will start at 7:30 p.m. CT.

LSU baseball dominates Louisiana-Monroe, extends winning streak to 3

It’s Brayden Jobert’s world, and we’re all just living in it.

“YOU CAN PUCKER UP AND KISS THAT BABY GOODBYE! HE’S HOTTER THAN A FIRE ANT ON A FEVER BLISTER! Jobert, swinging it like Excalibur right now,” play-by-play commentator Lyn Rollins proclaimed during Tuesday night’s game against Louisiana-Monroe.

It is truly Brayden Jobert’s world; we are all just living in it. Facing the Warhawks at Alex Box Stadium, the Tigers picked up right where they left off on Sunday.

[autotag]Tyrann Mathieu[/autotag] was back in the bayou to make the first pitch, and that was the start of a great night for LSU as it pushed its winning streak to three games with a dominant 15-4 win heading into a weekend series against the Auburn Tigers.

In the top of the first inning, ULM hit a solo home run to take a 1-0 lead, but that was the last sliver of hope it would get in this game. In the bottom of the inning, the scoring spree started for the Tigers. First, [autotag]Josh Berry[/autotag] tied the game up on an RBI single.

In the top of the fourth, [autotag]Cale Lansville[/autotag] came in to pitch and he surrendered three Warhawk runs to make it 7-4 after four innings. LSU scored again in the bottom of the sixth when Jobert hit a solo homer to make it 8-4.

That was followed by a [autotag]Cade Doughty[/autotag] sacrifice fly to make it 9-4 after six innings. In the bottom of the seventh, [autotag]Dylan Crews[/autotag] scored on a past ball and Jobert hit yet another home run. This time, it was a three-run shot to make it 13-4 LSU after seven innings.

In the bottom of the eighth, [autotag]Drew Bianco[/autotag] was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score another run, and [autotag]Jack Merrifield[/autotag] hit a sacrifice fly to make it 15-4 headed to the top of the ninth. With the win, LSU moves to 18-7 on the year and 3-3 in conference play. It will play the Auburn Tigers at home starting this Thursday, with the first pitch of Game 1 scheduled for 6 p.m. CT at The Box.
