LSU got the scoring started in the bottom of the fourth inning via the long ball. [autotag]Tommy White[/autotag] hit a solo shot to give LSU a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the fifth inning, that trend continued as [autotag]Hayden Travinski[/autotag] hit a solo shot of his own to give LSU a 2-0 lead.

The score remained 2-0 LSU until the bottom of the seventh inning when LSU tacked on three more runs. [autotag]Alex Milazzo[/autotag] hit a two-RBI double and [autotag]Ashton Larson[/autotag] hit an RBI single to extend the LSU lead to 5-0.

LSU baseball suffers another Game 3 run-rule loss as Vanderbilt takes series

The Commodores run-ruled LSU on Saturday to take the series.

LSU had two chances to get their first conference series win of the season after winning against Vanderbilt on Thursday evening. They could not make it happen as a late rally won Game 2 for Vandy and then the Commodores run-ruled LSU today to take the series.

The Commodores plated five runs in the first three innings before LSU was able to respond. [autotag]Paxton Kling[/autotag] scored due to a throwing error in the bottom of the third inning as LSU would cut the lead to 5-1.

Vandy went on to score two runs in the top of the fourth, one run in the top of the fifth, and three runs in the top of the sixth inning to extend their lead to 11-1. [autotag]Javen Coleman[/autotag] was charged with three runs, [autotag]Will Hellmers[/autotag] was charged with two runs, [autotag]Cam Johnson[/autotag] was charged with two runs, [autotag]Christian Little[/autotag] was charged with one run, and [autotag]Jaden Noot[/autotag] was charged with three runs today.

LSU baseball dominated by Southern in midweek loss Monday night

Unfortunately, this is not an April Fools’ joke. The Southern Jaguars dominated the LSU Tigers at Alex Box Stadium on Monday night.

Unfortunately, this is not an April Fools’ joke. The Southern Jaguars dominated the LSU Tigers at Alex Box Stadium on Monday night.

Southern won the game 12-7 and LSU did not lead at any point. LSU cut the lead to 3-2 entering the fifth inning but that was as close as they could get.

[autotag]Kade Anderson[/autotag] started on the mound as the Tigers looked to bounce back against Southern after being swept by Arkansas.

In the top of the second inning, Southern got on the board first with a three-run homer against Anderson to give them a 3-0 lead. In the bottom of the fourth inning, [autotag]Ben Nippolt[/autotag] hit a sacrifice fly and [autotag]Alex Milazzo[/autotag] had a sacrifice bunt to cut the lead to 3-2.

In the top of the fifth inning, Southern did some damage against [autotag]Christian Little[/autotag] and [autotag]Justin Loer[/autotag] as they scored five more runs to increase their lead to 8-2. In the bottom of the fifth, [autotag]Hayden Travinski[/autotag] had an RBI groundout and [autotag]Brady Neal[/autotag] hit a two-run homer to cut the lead to 8-5.

In the top of the sixth, an LSU error led to another run for Southern as they increased their lead to 9-5. In the bottom of the sixth, [autotag]Tommy White[/autotag] scored on a wild pitch to cut the lead to 9-6.

In the bottom of the eighth, Jared Jones hit a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 9-7. In the top of the ninth, [autotag]Michael Braswell III[/autotag] committed his second error of the evening leading to another run for Southern. A fielder’s choice and another error led to more runs for Southern as they increased their lead to 12-7.

LSU will host No. 6 Vanderbilt this weekend. Game 1 of the series is scheduled for Thursday at 6 p.m. CT.

Instant Analysis: LSU baseball drops series, run-ruled by Mississippi State in Game 3

Mississippi State run-ruled LSU 15-5 in Game 3.

Mississippi State run-ruled LSU 15-5 in Game 3 on Sunday to take the opening series of SEC play.

Game 3 started badly for LSU and it only got worse as the game went on. [autotag]Thatcher Hurd[/autotag] got the start on the mound and the Bulldogs scored three runs against him in the first inning before it mercifully came to an end.

In the top of the fifth inning, [autotag]Michael Braswell III[/autotag] hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 3-1 State. Back-to-back bases-loaded walks followed that to tie the game 3-3.

It looked as if the Tigers had hope and were right back in the game, but in the bottom of the inning, Hurd gave up a three-run bomb and a solo shot to give Mississippi State a 7-3 lead.

In the top of the sixth, [autotag]Tommy White[/autotag] got half of those runs back with a two-run shot of his own to cut the lead to 7-5.

That is when the wheels fell off for LSU. The Bulldogs scored five more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to extend their lead to 12-5. All of those runs were charged to [autotag]Christian Little[/autotag]. Little was pulled from the game after giving up five runs on three hits, two strikeouts and two walks in 0.2 innings.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Mississippi State scored three more runs to take a 15-5 lead and end the game via run-rule victory.

LSU suffered their first conference series loss since last May when the Tigers dropped two out of three games to Mississippi State. LSU will be back in action on Tuesday as the Tigers host Louisiana Tech at 6:30 p.m. CT.

Instant Analysis: LSU stops the rally to survive Game 2 against Mississippi State

After having a 9-1 lead early in the game, LSU had to fend off a comeback to win 9-8 in Game 2.

After having a 9-1 lead early in the game, LSU had to fend off a comeback to win 9-8 in Game 2 against Mississippi State.

LSU entered Game 2 looking to rebound after a 10-4 loss in Game 1 on Friday. To do that, they would need the offense to score some runs. That’s exactly what they did.

It seemed as though pitching was optional for both teams in this one as both teams put up a lot of runs. It felt like a game where the team that got to bat last would still have a chance to win.

LSU put up a three spot in the top of the first inning thanks to [autotag]Jared Jones[/autotag] and [autotag]Tommy White[/autotag] both hitting homers to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead.

In the top of the second inning, LSU scored two more runs due to a two-run homer by [autotag]Mac Bingham[/autotag] to extend the lead to 5-0.

The Bulldogs scored a run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the second inning to cut the lead to 5-1. LSU got that run back plus three more as [autotag]Hayden Travinski[/autotag] hit a two-run homer and White hit a two-RBI double with bases loaded to extend the lead to 9-1.

Seems like a comfortable lead, right? Wrong. The game was flipped on its head in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings as Mississippi State scored five runs between those two innings to cut the lead to 9-6. [autotag]Gage Jump[/autotag] was chased from the mound after only 3.2 innings. He gave up four runs on four hits, three strikeouts, and three walks.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Bulldogs scored two more runs and just like that, we had a one-run game. In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Bulldogs had runners on first and second with only one out as [autotag]Christian Little[/autotag] entered to pitch for the Tigers. White would then make an incredible 5-3 double play to get LSU out of the inning.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, [autotag]Nate Ackenhausen[/autotag] entered to pitch for the Tigers to try and secure the win. He retired the hitters 1-2-3 and ended the game as LSU won 9-8.

Game 3 will be Sunday at 1 p.m. CT.

Instant Analysis: LSU baseball shuts Xavier out to begin weekend series

Luke Holman finished the night after pitching six innings and allowing zero runs on zero hits.

After a rain delay moved the game back from its original start time, LSU and Xavier finally got underway around 8 p.m. CT. [autotag]Luke Holman[/autotag] got the start for the Tigers as he has become the ace and looked every bit of it on Friday night.

Holman finished the night after pitching six innings and allowing zero runs on zero hits. He struck out 10 hitters and only walked two.

LSU did not waste any time getting some runs on the board as the Tigers plated two in the bottom of the first inning. [autotag]Brady Neal[/autotag] hit an RBI double and [autotag]Hayden Travinski[/autotag] hit a sacrifice fly to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead.

In the bottom of the second inning, [autotag]Michael Braswell III[/autotag] hit an RBI triple and [autotag]Stephen Milam[/autotag] hit an RBI double to extend LSU’s lead to 4-0.

[autotag]Griffin Herring[/autotag] and [autotag]Christian Little[/autotag] pitched the last four innings and held Xavier scoreless as the Tigers took Game 1 4-0.

Instant Analysis: LSU crowned the champions of the Astros Foundation Classic with Sunday win over Texas State

LSU joins Vanderbilt as the only other team to go 3-0 at the Astros Foundation Classic.

LSU took on Texas State in a battle of two teams who came into the game undefeated at the [autotag]Astros Foundation Classic[/autotag]. Texas State knocked off Houston and Texas while LSU knocked off Texas and Louisiana-Lafayette. Both teams entered the game looking to leave as one of the only two teams to go 3-0 on the weekend.

[autotag]Thatcher Hurd[/autotag] got the start on the mound for the Tigers and he had a quality start. He went five innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits, five strikeouts, and one walk. Hurd was the first LSU starter to give up an earned run during the Classic.

[autotag]Josh Pearson[/autotag] got the Tigers on the board first with a solo shot in the bottom of the third inning to give LSU a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Tigers tacked on five runs as [autotag]Jake Brown[/autotag] hit an RBI double, [autotag]Paxton Kling[/autotag] had a two-RBI single, [autotag]Tommy White[/autotag] had an RBI single, and [autotag]Hayden Travinski[/autotag] got an RBI on a fielder’s choice to make the score 6-0 LSU.

In the top of the fifth inning, Hurd looked like he would escape the inning unscathed until a ball caromed off of [autotag]Michael Braswell[/autotag]’s glove into left field resulting in a run. After that, a throwing error by Braswell resulted in two more runs scoring for the Bobcats to cut the lead to 6-3.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, LSU got two of those three runs back. Travinski hit an RBI double and [autotag]Stephen Milam[/autotag] hit an RBI double to extend the LSU lead to 8-3.

[autotag]Javen Coleman[/autotag] entered to pitch for LSU in the top of the seventh after [autotag]Christian Little[/autotag] got the Tigers through the sixth unscathed. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Milam hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 9-3. [autotag]Ashton Larson[/autotag] then entered to pinch hit for LSU and he hit an RBI single to make it 10-3 Tigers.

With the bases loaded in the top of the ninth inning, [autotag]DJ Primeaux[/autotag] came into the game to try to get the last out of the evening. DJ was met with a two-RBI single to cut the lead to 10-5 and [autotag]Gavin Guidry[/autotag] would get the call out of the bullpen.

With the win, LSU moves to 11-1 on the season. LSU was crowned the champions of the Astros Foundation College Classic tournament after going undefeated and putting up a better run differential than Vanderbilt, who also finished the tourney 3-0. The Tigers will be back in action on Wednesday against Southeastern Louisiana.

Luke Holman gets LSU back in the win column against Northern Illinois

Luke Holman made his second start of the season and he pitched a masterclass as he got LSU back in the win column.

[autotag]Luke Holman[/autotag] made his second start of the season and he pitched a masterclass as he got LSU back in the win column with a 5-2 victory over Northern Illinois on Saturday. Holman pitched seven innings and allowed zero runs on two hits, eight strikeouts and no walks.

LSU scored first in this one as [autotag]Mac Bingham[/autotag] had an RBI groundout and [autotag]Josh Pearson[/autotag] was walked with the bases loaded to give LSU a 2-0 lead after two innings. In the bottom of the fourth inning, LSU scored three more runs as Bingham hit a two-run homer to left field and Pearson followed it with an RBI single to give LSU a 5-0 lead.

After that, the LSU bats went as cold as ice. The Tigers only managed three hits against Northern Illinois as Bingham, [autotag]Paxton Kling[/autotag], and Pearson were the only Tigers that got a hit. After Holman left the game, [autotag]Christian Little[/autotag] came in for the eighth inning. Little allowed zero runs on zero hits, two strikeouts, and a walk as he maintained the 5-0 LSU lead.

In the top of the ninth inning, things got interesting. [autotag]Justin Loer[/autotag] entered the game on the mound and Northern Illinois teed off on him. The Huskies scored two runs on two hits as they chased Loer from the mound. [autotag]Gavin Guidry[/autotag] came in after Loer and shut Northern Illinois down to secure the 5-2 victory for LSU.

With the win, LSU moves to 6-1 this season. The Tigers will get a shot at revenge against Stony Brook on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT

LSU baseball holds off Central Arkansas to go 4-0 in opening weekend

Fidel Ullo earned the save as LSU won 4-3.

The LSU offense picked up where it left off on Sunday as the Tigers scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning against Central Arkansas. [autotag]Hayden Travinski[/autotag] hit an RBI single, [autotag]Tommy White[/autotag] scored on a wild pitch, and Travinski scored when [autotag]Mac Bingham[/autotag] was walked with the bases loaded.

We got our first look at true freshman left-handed pitcher, [autotag]Kade Anderson[/autotag]. Anderson pitched four innings for LSU in his debut as he allowed one run on six strikeouts and three walks. Central Arkansas scored a run on him in the top of the third due to a wild pitch to cut the lead to 3-1.

LSU pitcher Christian Little won’t sign with Mets, returns to Tigers in 2024

Christian Little struggled in his first season at LSU, but he’ll return to Baton Rouge to try to improve upon it.

LSU’s pitching staff took some hits in the 2023 MLB draft, but it will get one piece back in right-hander [autotag]Christian Little[/autotag].

Little, a transfer addition from Vanderbilt last offseason, was selected in the 19th round of the draft by the New York Mets, but he will not sign and will instead return to Baton Rouge for the 2024 season.

Following the draft, Little heavily implied his return in a post on his Twitter account where he stated that he was “not done,” and shortly after, he told The Advocate’s Leah Vann that he will indeed pass on his offer from the Mets.

Little came in with high expectations but struggled quite a bit. He began the year as a weekend starter but became a bullpen reliever by the end of the season, finishing with a 2-2 record and a 7.79 earned run average in 19 appearances.

He made eight starts and pitched a total of 34.2 innings, striking out 42 batters while issuing 29 walks. Still, Little is a guy with big-league talent, and his return will allow him another chance to unlock it with the Tigers.
