College Football Rankings, Season Predictions: Sun Belt Spring Version 2022

Sun Belt spring football rankings and predictions with best and worst case scenarios for every team

Sun Belt college football rankings and predictions with the realistic best and worst case records and quick analysis – the 2022 spring version.

The Sun Belt just got a whole lot bigger, cooler, and more interesting with a shocking expansion that should take the conference up another level.

FCS powerhouse James Madison gets to join in right away, and Marshall, Old Dominion, and Southern Miss were able to leave Conference USA and get in for the 2022 football season.

Here’s the problem – several Sun Belt programs that made strides last year are going to have tougher schedules to deal with. Several teams should be better, but might not have the results to show it.

The rankings are based on how good the teams should be and not the final projected records. Keeping in mind that this all could/might/will change when we make the final calls in August …

Tennessee State’s all-time records against FBS programs

Get to know the Irish’s 2023 home opener opponent a bit.

Notre Dame has announced that its 2023 home opener will be played against Tennessee State, a Historically Black College and University. On the surface, it’s a great opportunity for a lesser-known program to receive national exposure. However, it also will be the first time the Irish have played a Football Championship Subdivision opponent. The reaction to this news within the fan base mostly has been lukewarm at best and outright negative at worst.

Notre Dame presently is the only Football Bowl Subdivision opponent the Tigers have scheduled for the future. That makes the decision either more of a headscratcher from the Irish’s point of view or it merely makes the Irish an outlier. Either way, the Tigers don’t get to play FBS schools very much, so you better believe they will be hyped for the opportunity. In the spirit of that, let’s take a look at how they have done against teams from college football’s top level:

2022 NFL draft: Seahawks met with Georgia State OL prospect

Pete Carroll and John Schneider might try to address their interior offensive line depth – and there’s at least one on their radar.

The Seahawks didn’t have much to look forward to heading into the 2021 NFL draft. Armed with only three picks, they just didn’t have enough resources to address their most pressing roster needs.

It’s a different story going into 2022. While Seattle doesn’t have a first-round pick again, the franchise does currently has six selections, beginning in the second round at No. 41 overall. In round three they pick at No. 72, followed by a fourth-round pick they got from the Jets in the Jamal Adams trade (No. 107 overall), then another fourth-rounder at No. 114, then No. 152 in the fifth and No. 227 in round seven.

One of the areas that Pete Carroll and John Schneider might try to address is their interior offensive line depth – and there’s at least one on their radar.

According to a report by Justin Melo at the Draft Network, the Seahawks were among the teams that met with Georgia State left guard Shamarious Gilmore at the College Gridiron Showcase.

Seattle already has a decent starting left guard in Damien Lewis. However, top LG backup Phil Haynes is about to become a free agent, as is C/LG Ethan Pocic.

Gilmore (6-foot-3, 295 pounds) has five years of experience and was a two-time first-team All-Sun Belt lineman.

Former Vols’ student assistant joins Colorado State’s staff

A former Vols’ student assistant joins Colorado State’s coaching staff.

Tyler Gilliam has joined Colorado State’s coaching staff as an analyst.

“Excited to finally be in Fort Collins,” Gilliam announced. “Ready to get to work with the Rams’ special teams.”

He will be analyst with Colorado State’s special teams.

Gilliam has served as a graduate assistant at Georgia State since 2020.

From 2018-19, Gilliam served as a special teams student assistant for the University of Tennessee football program.

Jay Norvell was hired as Colorado State’s head coach in December. Norvell came to Colorado State after serving in the same capacity at Nevada from 2017-2021.

Norvell was co-offensive coordinator alongside Josh Heupel at Oklahoma from 2011-14.

A very merry Christmas parlay involving NBA, NFL and CFB action

Even on Christmas, there’s money to be made.

By now, your travel plans are finalized, gifts are under the tree, dinner is marinating and Christmas music – good or not – has been blaring for several days now. The only thing missing to make this holiday season complete is the perfect parlay for the Christmas Day slate of games.

The NBA has always been the main sports attraction on the Christmas holiday and that remains the case despite a wave of COVID-19 outbreaks that threatened to change the look of its five-game slate. And for the second year in a row, the NFL will also be featured on Christmas – this time with two games chock full o’playoff implications to satisfy your cravings.

Then, there’s some college action, which includes the Camellia Bowl, returning for its eighth inaugural game and second consecutive on Christmas Day. Typically played between teams from the Mid-American Conference and Sun Belt, this year’s game features Georgia State against Ball State. There’s also a four-game slate of college hoops for the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic, but I’ll leave those for another expert to pick.

So, without further ado, here’s the best combination of picks from the NBA, NFL and CFB schedule to create a very Merry Christmas parlay.

Sara Puckett recorded 12 points and eight rebounds for the Lady Vols, while Brooklynn Miles finished with 11 points.

Taniyah Worth led Georgia State with 13 points.
