Former Vol Connor Meadows announces transfer destination

Former Vol Connor Meadows announces transfer destination.

Tennessee redshirt freshman offensive lineman Connor Meadows entered the NCAA transfer portal on Dec. 4.

“To the game I love, the past two years have invaluable to me and my growth as a player,” Meadows announced. “After continuous thought and prayer, I have decided to enter my name into the transfer portal with three years of eligibility remaining.”

Meadows announced on Sunday he transferred to Tennessee State and will play for head coach Eddie George.

The 6-foot-4, 297-pound Meadows appeared in two games for the Vols from 2022-23. He played against UConn this season and versus UT Martin in 2022.

Meadows came to Tennessee from Peabody High School in Trenton, Tennessee.

Student-athletes can enter the NCAA transfer portal from Dec. 2 until Jan. 2, 2024. Players can also enter the NCAA transfer portal from April 15-30, 2024.

Social media reacts to Notre Dame’s Holden Staes’ touchdown

Nice score by the tight end.

Notre Dame definitely has had a tougher time with NC State than it did against Navy or Tennessee State. Much of that has been self-inflicted with an uncharacteristic amount of penalties that have aid the Wolfpack’s scoring. But [autotag]Sam Hartman[/autotag] has shown capable of fending off whatever adversity that comes the Irish’s win. Fresh off a Wolfpack field goal, Hartman completed a pass to [autotag]Holden Staes[/autotag], who was off to the races with a 40-yard touchdown:

This is the second touchdown for Staes in as many games and the second of his career. The fact that he’s starting to show what he can do after barely getting that opportunity a year ago shows how many players are benefiting from Hartman’s presence. It was hyped up a lot before the season, but now, we’re getting to see it for ourselves. That includes folks on social media as evidenced by these tweets:

Notre Dame statistical leaders through two games

Here’s who to watch against NC State.

Notre Dame dominated its first two opponents in Navy and Tennessee State. Some might be wondering if a challenge will show up anytime soon. We’ll see if one exists when the Irish travel to NC State for their first true road game of the season. Here are those most likely to push the Irish over the top, specifically those who lead the major statistical categories:

The day after: Lasting thoughts on Notre Dame’s win against Tennessee State

What has stuck out in your mind after Saturday’s Irish W?

[autotag]Notre Dame football[/autotag] has looked like one of the best teams in the country through its first two games.

It has won them by a combined score of 98-6, an absurd number. Yes, the competition has not been anywhere close to what the Irish have, but winning like this shouldn’t be overlooked.

It has been a little over 24 hours since Notre Dame took apart Tennessee State, but like every week, there are plenty of thoughts that run through my mind following a Saturday of Irish football. Find out below my lasting thoughts on another Notre Dame blowout win, this time in South Bend.

Notre Dame football: What Marcus Freeman said after dominating win vs. Tennessee State

Marcus Freeman recaps the win

The start was a little strange for No. 13 Notre Dame on Saturday, but that didn’t last too long into the second quarter. The Irish seized a 35-3 halftime lead before beating Tennessee State 56-3.

For Marcus Freeman, it’s a complete opposite start to 2022 when the Irish went 0-2. The Irish are 2-0 and head to NC State next weekend to take on a Wolfpack team that has given Sam Hartman fits over the years.

How did Marcus Freeman see Notre Dame’s dominating performance Saturday? Here is everything the Fighting Irish head coach had to say following the 56-3 home-opening win.

How social media reacted to Notre Dame-Tennessee State: Irish side

What are your thoughts on the victory?

It probably goes without saying, but Notre Dame fans are happy right now. Their team followed up a 42-3 drubbing of Navy with a 56-3 thrashing against Tennessee State in its home opener. No, it won’t be this good the entire season, but it sure does instill confidence in both the team and the fan base for at least most of the rest of the schedule. We’ll see how much that confidence will pay off when it’s time to face Ohio State, USC and Clemson.

Even if this game was decided in the first half and thus plummeted interest in the second half, you still had Irish fans celebrated on social media afterwards. After all, since it won’t be this easy throughout 2023, one might as well let it all soak in while they can. Otherwise, it might be regrettable not to later on. Here are some of the best postgame tweets from Irish fans:

Notre Dame 56, Tennessee State 3: Quick Recap

2-0 as the schedule now gets a bit more difficult

No. 13 Notre Dame moved to 2-0 on the 2023 season Saturday with a dominating performance against Tennessee State.  The 56-3 victory for the Irish was never in doubt, even with a somewhat shaky start defensively.

[autotag]Sam Hartman[/autotag] continued his hot start to the season, completing 14 of 17 passes for 194 yards and two touchdowns while running for another.

Notre Dame dominated the running game, putting up 221-yards and averaging 6.7 yards per carry.

Perhaps the most telling stat of the game for Notre Dame was that their eight touchdowns were scored by eight different players.

Fighting Irish Wire will recap the game as the Irish are 2-0.  In the meantime, be sure to check out a handful of the best photos from the action Saturday below.

No. 13 Notre Dame routs Tennessee State: Instant takeaways

2-0! What are your thoughts on the blowout win?

As expected, No. 13 Notre Dame had little trouble disposing of Tennessee State on Saturday, rolling to a 56-3 victory. The win moves the Irish to 2-0 on the young season, and they now go on the road to North Carolina State next weekend.

What do you take away from a lopsided win against a clearly inferior opponent?

That’s exactly what we’re here to do as there was some great, some good, and some things that clearly need cleaned up by Notre Dame as the schedule gets progressively more difficult.

Here are our instant takeaways from Notre Dame’s victory on Saturday afternoon.

Social media reacts to Notre Dame RB Gi’Bran Payne’s first career TD

This game has been Payne for the Tigers.

Notre Dame’s game against Tennessee State has become a showcase for players getting firsts in their collegiate careers. First, we saw [autotag]Jeremiyah Love[/autotag] score his first touchdown. Next, [autotag]Steve Angeli[/autotag] got his first touchdown pass. Then, Angeli threw his second touchdown pass to a running back, who scored his first touchdown on the play. That running back was [autotag]Gi’Bran Payne[/autotag]:

Like many other second-half contributors for the Irish, Payne’s opportunity was made possible because the Irish went into the half with such a big lead. When Payne scored, the Tigers still had been kept off the scoreboard in the second half. They had been held to a mere field goal just like Navy had against the Irish the week before.

As hard as it is to believe in a blowout, there still were people watching the game when Payne scored. Here are some of the tweets sent out by some of the remaining viewers:

Social media reacts to Notre Dame QB Steve Angeli’s first TD pass

Congrats, Steve!

Buried on Notre Dame’s depth chart in 2022, [autotag]Steve Angeli[/autotag] surely wondered whether he would get to shine beyond the Blue-Gold Game. Now, with [autotag]Drew Pyne[/autotag] and Tyler Buchner gone, he is firmly in the role of [autotag]Sam Hartman[/autotag]’s primary backup. With the Irish possessing a 35-3 halftime lead, Hartman had done enough. That meant Angeli would run the offense in the second half.

While it took most of the third quarter for it to happen, Angeli finally got the first touchdown pass of his collegiate career. After [autotag]Jadarian Price[/autotag] lost 4 yards on a run, Angeli threw to Price on the next play after avoiding defensive pressure, and Price took the ball 40 yards to the house:

Angeli will remember this moment for the rest of his life. Perhaps he also will remember [autotag]Clarence Lewis[/autotag]’ 33-yard interception return for a touchdown that happened immediately after. Either way, it was a memorable sequence of events.

We’ve seen impact plays from Lewis before, so let’s focus on how social media reacted to Angeli’s big moment:
