Where Troy Franklin stands in mid-season Biletnikoff Award betting odds

A look at where Oregon Ducks wide receiver Troy Franklin stands in the mid-season betting odds for the Biletnikoff Award.

It doesn’t feel like wide receivers on the West Coast are getting the recognition that they deserve, nationally at least.

While you can look at the Heisman Trophy betting odds heading into November and see Ohio State’s Marvin Harrison Jr. near the top of the list, you rarely hear anyone talk about Oregon’s Troy Franklin, or Washington’s Rome Odunze, despite them having better stats than Harrison at this point in the season.

There may be some East Coast bias built into the conversation, but it’s at least comforting to look at betting odds and see that both Franklin and Odunze are getting some respect when it comes to the sportsbooks.

Heading into the final month of the regular season, FanDuel Sportsbook released odds for the Fred Biletnikoff Award, given to the college football season’s outstanding FBS receiver. Here’s where the Ducks’ leading receiver stacks up against the other top pass-catchers in the nation when it comes to odds to win the award:

ChatGPT ranks top 10 receivers in Notre Dame history

Please note that tight ends are not included on this list.

We’ve been asking AI writing tool ChatGPT to give its opinions of the top 10 Notre Dame players by position. It’s been a great way to generate discussion and debate amongst our readers. So far, we’ve asked it to list the top quarterbacks and running backs. Now, we move onto the receivers.

Please note that this list will not include tight ends but rather pure receivers. Even though it’s becoming more difficult to differentiate between receivers and tight ends these days, they still are different enough that they need to be separated. So please don’t ask why Michael Mayer or Cole Kmet aren’t on this list, but we also will get more into that when we ask ChatGPT about Irish tight ends.

Please also note that ChatGPT’s last knowledge update was in September 2021, and this list is based on historical data that was available at that time. Also, some entries have been edited for clarity and accuracy:

Jaxon Smith-Njigba named to the 2022 Biletnikoff watch list

You know who is on the Biletnikoff preseason watchlist. Color us surprised. #GoBucks

We are deep in the throws of watch list season for college football, and the latest one is not going to surprise anyone by what Ohio State player has his name included.

Ohio State wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba is one of 43 names appearing on the preseason 2022 Biletnikoff watch list. The award has been around since 1994 and handed out by the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation annually to the best wide receiver in college football.

The award is named for Fred Biletnikoff, who played college football at Florida State University and professionally with the Oakland Raiders.

Smith-Njigba is coming off one of the best years a college wide receiver has ever had, and statistically, the best any Ohio State receiver has had in the history of the program. He had 95 catches for 1,606 yards and nine touchdowns.

That was with the ball being spread around to a couple of NFL first-round draft picks with Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave also making game-breaking plays. Smith-Njigba is expected to pick up where he left off with some new, yet still talented faces surrounding him.

Ohio State has had just one Biletnikoff winner in the person of Terry Glenn back in 1995.
