UGA WR scores TD, suffers gruesome leg injury

UGA football WR Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint scored a TD during the Georgia-florida but suffered a nasty leg injury.

You absolutely hate to see this.

During the first quarter of the Georgia-Florida game, UGA true freshman wide receiver Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint scored on a third down touchdown pass from Stetson Bennett to give the Bulldogs a 14-0 lead early.

However, things took a turn for the worst as Rosemy-Jacksaint entered the end zone, as his leg snapped backwards.

He needed to be carted off the field.

Rosemy-Jacksaint is a true freshman St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Cardinals 2021 NFL draft profile: Florida TE Kyle Pitts

But, there is one name in particular in the 2021 NFL Draft that would make the Cardinals offense even more lethal than it already is.

As the trade deadline passes, the Arizona Cardinals acquired Markus Golden to boost their edge-rushing corps from an injured Chandler Jones. This week, they face the Miami Dolphins, who are coming off an impressive win with rookie quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Going into Week 9, the Cardinals have the top offense in the NFL, averaging 419.1 yards per game. From Kyler Murray to DeAndre Hopkins, this offense has been a lethal force throughout the majority of the season.

However, they do have a few question marks in terms of their long-term answers at key positions. One of those is at tight end. Kliff Kingsbury does not utilize tight ends as much as other teams in the NFC West.  However, there is one name in particular in the 2021 draft that would make the Cardinals offense even more lethal than it already is. That name is Kyle Pitts from Florida.

The Kyles of the Florida Gators (Kyle Trask and Kyle Pitts) took the college football world by storm through the first few games of the season. Through four games, Pitts has 22 receptions for 355 yards and seven touchdowns, four of them coming in the first game against Ole Miss. Pitts stands 6-foot-6 and 246 pounds and has been an absolute unit with the Gators. He has a good amount of speed and is physical after the catch. Pitts also has elite hands, as he only had four dropped passes in 2019. He is athletic and has the talent to be lined up as a wideout, as he has done before and will still beat out cornerbacks with his separation of speed. As a tight end, he Pitts is such a crisp route runner and has really expanded his route tree throughout his time at Florida. The Cardinals have tight end Maxx Williams until 2022, but they have not seen a ton of flashes out of him. Granted, the tight end position is not one of the premiere parts of the Cardinals offense. If they drafted Kyle Pitts, Kyler Murray not only has his tight end for the future, but they also have a guy that can line up as a receiver and produce like a top-notch weapon.

Kyle Pitts has made substantial leaps forward throughout his time at Florida. His weight has been a concern, but he has consistently added to it along with muscle throughout the offseason. His blocking is so efficient and that would be crucial for the Cardinals offense. However, there have been times where he won’t finish his blocks. This happened in his 2019 game against Tennessee where he would start off strong, but let his opponent win the battle because he wasn’t as physical enough. This has slowly improved, but it should not affect his draft stock and cause tight end needy teams to pass on.

Kyle Pitts has certainly made a case for himself being the number one tight end in the country with his performance this season thus far. The tight end position is one of the biggest question marks on the Cardinals offense. If Kyler Murray had DeAndre Hopkins, Larry Fitzgerald (if he stays another year), Christian Kirk and you add Kyle Pitts to that mix, the Cardinals would be an offense you would not want to mess with.

Paul Finebaum on Georgia-Florida: ‘Very dangerous game for Kirby Smart’

Paul Finebaum discusses the Georgia-Florida game and how there is a lot of pressure on UGA football HC Kirby Smart to win it.

It’s Georgia-Florida day, and the No. 5 ranked Dawgs are looking to make it four in a row over the No. 8 Gators in Jacksonville.

For both sides, this is an SEC Championship play-in game. The loser of this matchup will have two losses on its record.

Georgia, though favored and ranked higher, is actually viewed as an underdog in the eyes of many for this one. A lackluster offense and a banged up defense have created a lot of doubt about UGA’s chances of winning.

While on ESPN’s First Take this week, Paul Finebaum discussed the challenges that UGA and Kirby Smart face for the Cocktail Party, in addition to speaking on Georgia’s unfortunate quarterback situation.

“This is a precarious game for Georgia,” Finebaum said. “They’ve only lost to Alabama, they led at halftime, got blown out in the second half. They had an uninspiring game last week against Kentucky, only scoring 14 points. And if they lose this game, there are going to be a lot of people who go back into the history books of two years ago and start asking the question to Kirby Smart, ‘How did you let Justin Fields get away?’”

We know the story. Fields transferred to Ohio State after one year at Georgia. Now he’s a Heisman contender. Then Jamie Newman transferred to Georgia from Wake Forest, but we never got to see him in red and black as he opted out in the preseason.

Now, it’s all on Stetson Bennett’s shoulders. A former JUCO star, Bennett has struggled during the 2020 season, and he’ll need to clean it up today and limit turnovers if UGA wants to keep with Florida’s offense.

“They’re severely challenged,” Finebaum said. “And as I say that, Florida has one of the best quarterbacks in the country in Kyle Trask. … So this is a very dangerous game for Kirby Smart.”

Georgia Bulldogs star WR George Pickens out versus Florida

Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver George Pickens did not travel with the team to Jacksonville and will miss the game against the Florida Gators

Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver George Pickens did not travel with the team to Jacksonville and will miss the crucial game against the Florida Gators. Pickens, a former five-star recruit, has 13 receptions for 140 yards and two touchdowns on the season. He missed last week’s game against the Kentucky Wildcats with an upper body injury.

Stetson Bennett will have to step up without his top receiving target. The Georgia Bulldogs passing game will sorely miss Pickens, who is the Bulldogs’ top deep threat. In his place, Georgia has recently activated speedy four-star freshman wide receiver Arian Smith, who missed the opening portion of the season with wrist surgery.

Interestingly, without George Pickens, Georgia elected to run the ball 43 times against Kentucky. Stetson Bennett only attempted 14 passes in Georgia’s win over the Wildcats.

Viewers should expect the Bulldog offense to open up against Florida after having a relatively vanilla game plan for the Kentucky game. Kirby Smart and Todd Monken know that the Dawgs must keep pace with Kyle Trask, Kyle Pitts, and the explosive Florida offense.

Georgia must put up more than 14 points against the Gators if they expect to win. Florida will receive a heavy dose of Zamir White, James Cook, and the Georgia rushing attack, which will try to impose its will on the Gators. The Bulldogs will look to limit their turnovers and hope their banged up, but very deep defense can prevail. It should be another run-heavy day for the Dawgs, but not as run-heavy as the Kentucky game.

Five reasons Georgia beats Florida

Five reasons why we think Georgia football beats Florida this Saturday.

The biggest rivalry in college football, also known as the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party, goes down tomorrow in Jacksonville, FL.  No. 5 Georgia (4-1, 4-1) will take on No. 8 Florida (3-1, 3-1) in a top-10 SEC East matchup for the ages.

Kirby Smart is 3-1 against Auburn in his four years as the Bulldogs’ head coach and has won the past three games, putting the overall series in favor of Georgia 52-43-2.

Georgia features one of the nation’s top defenses while Florida showcases one of the nation’s top offenses.  The Dawgs are favored by 3.5 points in a game that could very well determine the winner of the SEC East. All odds are courtesy BetMGM.

Saturday’s showdown is set to kickoff at 3:30 P.M. on CBS.

Here are five reasons we believe the Dawgs come out of Jacksonville victorious this Saturday.

Interview: UGA great Malcolm Mitchell’s next chapter after football

Former UGA great Malcolm Mitchell joined me this week on UGA Football Live with J.C. Shelton to talk about his life after football.

The former Patriots wideout went from catching passes and winning Super Bowls with Tom Brady, to full-time author and CEO of his own youth literacy foundation Read With Malcolm.

“I am a full-time author and CEO of my youth literacy foundation and that’s what consumes the majority of my time, Malcolm told me on Wednesday. “It’s a little different that running down the field and catching passes, but I enjoy it.

Mitchell developed an interest with books and reading during his career in Athens and even published his first book “The Magician’s Hat” during his junior year.

“(Georgia) That’s where my curiosity really reached its peak in terms of being exposed of all the different cultures that college exposes you to and then just wanting to learn more, Mitchell continued. I found reading to be a very very useful tool in expanding as a person and it consumed me and I just read as much as I could.”

Mitchell’s foundation hosts its annual READBowl global reading competition beginning in January, something that Mitchell started four years ago.

“It’s really fun, we’ve had every state participate, we’ve had other countries participate and it’s an opportunity for reading to me sport and classmates are able to compete to see who can read the most minutes.”
