Politician’s most popular Facebook post in years: Teen’s huge catfish

A 13-year-old boy caught the biggest fish of his life, and became a huge hit in a Facebook post by a politician in South Carolina.

A 13-year-old boy caught the biggest fish of his life, a catfish weighing an estimated 36 pounds, and became a big hit in a Facebook post by a politician in South Carolina.

Landon Anthony of Clover caught the catfish while fishing with his grandfather recently on Lake Wylie, according to The Charlotte Observer.

Anthony’s mother, Jennifer Hullett, told the Observer her son threw back the behemoth catfish, knowing a fish that size doesn’t taste as good as smaller ones.

A photo of the fish was posted on a Clover neighborhood site last week and caught the eye of Allison Love, who represents Clover and Lake Wylie on the York County Council, District 2.

Love, who appears to post many topics related to her district, posted the photo on her Facebook page and wrote, “Swimming with the…catfish. Wow! 13-year-old Landon Anthony reeled this in from the depths of Lake Wylie. 36 lbs. I will think about this every time I get in my inner tube from now on. Impressive Landon!”

Others thought so too. The post generated 217 comments and it was shared at least 1,000 times, far more than any other recent posts made by Love.

“It’s been the most popular post on my page in 3½ years,” Love told the Observer on Saturday.

As a young boy, Anthony was taught how to fish by his father, Johnny Anthony, and they also enjoyed hunting together, Hullett told the Observer. Sadly, Johnny died in a car accident in 2016. Now, Landon fishes with his grandparents and an uncle.

By the looks of things, it appears Landon was taught well.

Commenters on Facebook actually thought the catfish was bigger than the estimate.

“This one looks to be about 50 [pounds]. Amazing that a 13-year-old had the strength to pull this guy in.”

“That looks waaaaaay bigger than 36 lbs.”

“Looks bigger than 36 lbs. Nice catch.”

A nice catch, indeed.

Mark Zuckerberg put a ton of sunscreen on his face and Twitter roasted him for it

Many wondered if Mark Zuckerberg is a mime.

Mark Zuckerberg, that Facebook CEO fella who has the propensity to act like a robotic alien who has been sent down to earth to create a social media platform that makes all of us hate each other, decided to have some fun in the ocean this weekend and… once again looked like a robot trying to enjoy some time on the water while hoping that the water doesn’t make the wires he’s made of light on fire and take him down.

We all know that when you’re out in the sun i’ts important to wear sunscreen. But Zuck took things to an extreme level in Hawaii as he made absolutely damn sure that his face wasn’t going to get sunburned:

The internet had jokes:

Watch: Irish Catholic American Responds to Irish Nickname Piece

After our story about Daniel Morrison’s call for Notre Dame to dump the “Fighting Irish” nickname was published, the reaction was strong.

After our story about Daniel Morrison’s call for Notre Dame to dump the “Fighting Irish” nickname was published, the reaction was strong. People were quick to defend Notre Dame’s identity and everything that comes with it. The clear feeling among the masses was anger that anyone would even consider taking the time to suggest this. On Tuesday alone, the story had over 31,000 views, most of which came from Facebook.

Another opinion came in video form by YouTube user IrishBenjamin57. Though the video came from a small channel, IrishBenjamin57 made his feelings about this story clear. More importantly, he explained why this idea affects him personally and not merely as an Irish Catholic American:

This piece struck a nerve with some people more than others, and it shows. Stories like that of IrishBenjamin57’s exist all over Notre Dame’s fan base. This one just happens to have been shared on YouTube. Even if this idea doesn’t affect you on as deep or personal a level as IrishBenjamin57, you can’t disagree with standing up for what you believe in.

Von Miller launches vlog series on his YouTube channel

Broncos outside linebacker Von Miller has uploaded some great content on his YouTube channel.

Denver Broncos has launched a vlog series on his YouTube channel, VMStudio58. Two weeks ago, Miller uploaded 15 episodes. Last Friday, Miller uploaded a video of his No. 40 jersey being retired at DeSoto High School. That was his most recent upload.

Here is Miller’s intro video on his YouTube page:

“Hey guys, welcome to my YouTube channel,” Miller says in the video. [It will] give you an exclusive look into my life. We’ve got pranks, skits and just dope content that you wouldn’t normally see. Appreciate you guys for the support.”

Two years ago, Miller launched a show on Facebook called “Von Miller’s Studio 58.” The last episode of that series drew 421,000 views.

Miller’s Facebook show mostly featured interviews with fellow NFL players. His YouTube channel appears to be more focused on Miller himself.

Miller has 3,632 video views and 174,000 subscribers so far. Those numbers will undoubtedly go up as more fans become aware of his new YouTube series.

Fightnight Live unveils $5 PPV plan for regional boxing shows

Fightnight Live, an interactive Facebook series, plans to charge $5 to watch regional and club shows to help boxing restart.

Five dollars to watch regional and club boxing shows?

That’s the plan unveiled by Fightnight Live, an interactive Facebook series that has streamed 48 live events from 21 different cities since May 2017. The goal is to create a revenue stream to help regional promoters stage combat sports cards without spectators or with small crowds, if that’s what’s required amid the coronavirus pandemic, according to a news release.

Boxing is scheduled to restart next month.

“This has been a challenging time for so many, and we’re incredibly pleased to introduce a Facebook option that can enable fight cards to happen safely, with socially-distanced crowds or even without fans in the stands,” said Mark Fratto, principal and director of business development, Linacre Media.

“The top promoters in boxing and MMA have lucrative broadcast and streaming deals, but regional/club promoters have limited options without ticket revenue. Fightnight Live PPV can be a path forward; a public health-conscious and financially-responsible way to get fighters fighting again.”

Fratto went on: “Thanks to the steadfast commitment from our partners at Everlast, Fightnight Live PPV shows will be affordable for fan consumption, and the low production price point will enable promoters to get their fighters back in the ring as soon as they can get commission-approved, safe dates.

“And of course, the safety of the fighters, officials and everyone involved will be paramount. Our production crews will operate with testing, masks, social distancing and will even work offsite, REMI-style, when appropriate.”

The Fightnight Live PPV schedule will be announced “in the coming weeks,” according to the release.

Fightnight Live is available at www.facebook.com/facefightnightlive.

How to watch the 1990 Orange Bowl with Notre Dame greats tonight

Notre Dame spent New Years Day 1990 knocking off No. 1 Colorado, ending the Buffs title dreams. Relive that game with some ND legends tonight!

Thursday night offers a pretty cool experience for Notre Dame fans looking for something different to do.  Not only can they re-live a classic Fighting Irish performance by watching No. 4 Notre Dame end No. 1 Colorado’s title dreams in the 1990 Orange Bowl, but they can watch that with a few of their favorite former Irish stars, too.

The game will be re-shown at 9:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN. Originally airing on NBC, we’ll get a good look at a younger Bob Costas doing pre-game while Dick Enberg is on the play-by-play.

You can also take in the game with the audio down and your internet up as Chris Zorich will be hosting a Q & A on Facebook with some of his former teammates during the game.  I don’t know exact names of those who will join him but it should bring back some good memories of an incredible run Notre Dame was in the middle of come the end of the 1989 season.

Also airing Thursday evening will be the 1992 “Snow Bowl” versus Penn State, which starts at 7:00 p.m. ET.  The night caps with the 1991 Orange Bowl between Colorado and Notre Dame again.

Maybe this time they won’t call a phantom clip.

Seattle Seahawks’ Twitter account jumps up to No. 10 in 2020 rankings

Complex Sports recently ranked the Twitter accounts of all 32 NFL teams and the Seattle Seahawks landed at No. 10 in 2020.

The NFL has embraced social media, using Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and other platforms to reach fans around the world.

The website Complex recently took a look at the Twitter accounts from all 32 teams, ranking the digital marketing efforts from best to worst.

Seattle landed at No. 10 overall.

“The Seahawks are a big climber this year, escalating 14 spots in our rankings,” Complex notes. “This franchise has been consistently great on the field—no matter what he’s working with, Russell Wilson always pulls off some magic—and the accompanying Twitter content is starting to fit the bill. A baby Yoda outfitted like Russ? Come on now. That’s top-shelf, guys.”

“One other thing we like: the Seahawks are behind the city as a whole and promote the other franchises, like the Seattle Sounders,” Complex continues. “They also produce captivating artwork and support important causes like Black History Month.”

The Ravens earned the top spot this year, up from No. 22 in 2019.
