The former Pro Bowl running back committed a false start…
The Cleveland Browns are getting a new logo and helmet in 2024, and former Pro Bowl running back Eric Metcalf incidentally gave everyone a sneak preview.
Over the past two seasons, the Browns have used white facemasks, which were their primary helmet from 1999 when they came back into the NFL until 2005, as an alternate look. They have been rumored to be bringing it back full-time, and Metcalf has seemingly sealed the deal.
“OG making a comeback in ’24!!! Thanks for the love @Browns”
He also attached the following images to the post:
Slowly evolving back to tradition ever since departing in 2015 when they switched to the hideous wide-striped uniforms, the Browns are correcting the uniform mistakes. Even after going back to the traditional uniforms in 2020, the brown facemasks with the matte orange finish remained.
Now, the Browns go back to the gloss orange and the white facemask. Nature is restoring itself in Cleveland.
The Aggies had no chance to match Eric Metcalf’s speed on this play.
Eric Metcalf is one of the most underrated Longhorns to ever grace the legendary burnt orange uniform. A highlight run against the Texas A&M Aggies surfaced on Twitter putting his elite ability into perspective.
The highlight showed Metcalf is turbo mode running past the Texas A&M defense on his way to a 50-yard touchdown run. The account that shared the highlight clocked the Texas running back’s top speed at 21.7 miles per hour.
The Aggies would go on to win the game to improve to 9-2 while the Longhorns fell to 6-5 on the year. Therein lies the likely reason Metcalf is somewhat forgotten when some discuss the top players in program history. He was simply a great player who played on some teams that underachieved.
Metcalf as as individual player was an unmitigated success. After earning a first round draft selection by the Cleveland Browns, he enjoyed a 13-year career in the NFL. The lightning fast running back and return specialist ended his NFL career in 2002 with the Green Bay Packers.
Flashback Friday: Longhorn legend Eric Metcalf his 21.7 MPH on this 50-yard TD vs. the Aggies in the 1987. #ReelSpeed#HookEm
It is quite possible that Friday’s matchup with Baylor could be the last time we see [autotag]Bijan Robinson[/autotag] put on the Burnt Orange in a regular season game. The five-star signee in the 2020 recruiting class has been as advertised for the Texas Longhorns.
This season Robinson is the No. 6 rusher in FBS with 1,401 yards. His yards per rush average of 6.12 ranks No. 18 among rushers with at least 100 carries. Bijan’s 16 rushing touchdowns put him No. 5 this season behind four players tied at 18.
It isn’t just the national rankings this season either, Robinson has been among the best in Texas Longhorns history. Not too shabby considering he has worn the same jersey as [autotag]Ricky Williams[/autotag], [autotag]Earl Campbell[/autotag], [autotag]Cedric Benson[/autotag], [autotag]Jamaal Charles[/autotag], and [autotag]Eric Metcalf[/autotag].
With just two games remaining, it could be three depending on how the final week of Big 12 games play out, Robinson could finish top five in several categories. He won’t win a Heisman like Williams or Campbell, but he could take home the Doak Walker Award given to the nation’s top running back. Time will tell if he joins Williams, Cedric Benson, and D’Onta Foreman as Texas Longhorns who won the award.
Current Texas A&M commit Victory Vaka took to Twitter to call out the Texas Longhorns fanbase. Saying they are ‘obsessed’ with A&M.
In the state of Texas there is a lot of pride for each school. Two of those schools absolutely cannot stand each other. The Texas Longhorns and Texas A&M Aggies are the main two of reference. They started playing each other back in 1894 and continued up until 2011. The Lone Star rivalry ended when the Aggies left for the SEC, however the rivalry never ended for the fanbases.
They still compete in other sports such as baseball and basketball, but when it comes to the money making sport of college football they haven’t come together to play. Some of that being how the Longhorns dominated the rivalry and perhaps the Aggies don’t want to stack more losses. Or perhaps since they are now in the SEC, neither side wants to lose that game for recruiting purposes.
Former Longhorn Eric Metcalf joined the Locked on Longhorns podcast to discuss the return to the rivalry in which he stated that very thing. If you lose that game you could lose an edge in recruiting in the Lone Star state. Neither school wants that. Current Aggie commit Victory Vaka of California tweeted out that Texas fans care more about the Aggies than their very own Longhorns.
Texas fans more obsessed with A&M than they are with they own team. We know y’all suck and are still not back but like bro pick a side. 😂😂😂😂
While it is true that Texas fans do like to talk about A&M, it is more so for mocking that team. Aggie fans do the same with Texas, like was previous stated this is still a rivalry and they will continue to do so on social media.
For the Aggies, those who live in glass houses should not throw stones.
With opening weekend upon us for the Texas Longhorns, we look back at how Sam Ehlinger has performed in recent years.
Saturday night in Austin, Texas. Senior quarterback Sam Ehlinger will be leading the team onto the field for the start of his final campaign. For Ehlinger this marks his fourth opener to prepare for. Could it be the start of something special? Recently former Longhorn great Eric Metcalf joined the podcast and talked about his chances of putting on a show.
Ehlinger needs to not only continue to put up the same level of numbers of years past, but also can’t lose those games they expect to win. Much like a TCU, Iowa State or even play close to Kansas. They need to put their foot on the gas and put up style points to be in consideration.
We take a walk through history at how Ehlinger has performed in the first game of each of his first three seasons on the Forty Acres.

Based on his average numbers, they aren’t bad. However, given the fact that the Longhorns are heavy favorites in this game will he get close to them? Probably not. Expect Ehlinger to be out of the game early on with Casey Thompson, Hudson Card or Ja’Quinden Jackson to get some playing time as this game wraps up on Saturday night at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.

‘All Eyez on Cleveland’ with Browns legend Eric Metcalf:
On this Flashback Friday, we look back at former Longhorn Eric Metcalf. The man known as Mr. All-Purpose.
Before the days of Devin Hester setting records in the NFL for returns or Darren Sproles becoming a headache for defensive and special teams coordinators, there was Eric Metcalf. Metcalf was a first round draft pick in the 1989 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns. Before making a jump to the NFL, he was wreaking havoc on the Forty Acres.
During his time with the Longhorns, he tallied 4,051 yards and 30 touchdowns on 710 touches. Nothing compared to what he would eventually do at the NFL level. He is often remembered best for his returns, in Austin Metcalf returned 108 punts for 1,076 yards. He returned only one kick for a touchdown. In 1987, Metcalf threw two passes. Both of those went for touchdowns. Then he moved on to the NFL where he would play for seven teams but most of his career was spent in Cleveland.
Only two players in NFL history have recorded 7,000+ scrimmage yards and 7,000+ return yards.
In the NFL, Eric Metcalf was a nightmare on the field. He was named to the All-Pro team three times (1993, 1994 and 1997). Those same seasons he was also named to the Pro Bowl. Leading the league in return yardage in 1990. During his career from 1989-2002, Metcalf scored 43 touchdowns as a running back with 31 coming by way of the pass. Racking up 7,964 yards from scrimmage.

Metcalf was definitely Darren Sproles before Darren Sproles. While Sproles has the better overall numbers, there is no discounting what Eric Metcalf did on the football field. His accolades don’t stop on the football field. Much like Jamaal Charles, Marquise Goodwin and John Burt, Metcalf was also a star in track.
Eric holds the UT record for outdoor long jump with a mark of 27-8 ¼ feet, was a two-time NCAA champion in the event, and became a five-time track All-American, in addition to his SWC long jump titles in 1986 and 1987. – per Texas Sports Hall of Fame release
While Eric Metcalf may not be in the NFL Hall of Fame, he is a member of the Texas Sports Hall of Fame. He was inducted in 2017, along with former Dallas Cowboys safety Darren Woodson.
The complicated history of NFL Draft trades at the No. 10 pick includes some superstars, busts, a former Browns icon and more
If the Cleveland Browns are interested in trading the No. 10 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, they will find lots of precedents. Trading back from the No. 10 pick is the norm of late.
Teams have traded back from the ten spot in three straight drafts. Based on the outcomes, the Browns might want to stay put. It’s been a decidedly mixed bag of outcomes for the trades.
Here are the last three No. 10 picks and trade outcomes, plus some notable older moves that also involved the 10th pick.
Kennard keeps it in the family by signing a three-year deal with the Cardinals.
When the Arizona Cardinals announced they agreed to terms with linebacker Devon Kennard, they were bringing home another hometown player. Kennard not only played high school ball in Phoenix, he also brings a Cardinals legacy in his family.
His father played for the Cardinals in the late 80s and 90s.
According to the Cardinals’ Mark Dalton, who is the head of media relations, when Devon plays for the Cardinals for the first time, it will be the third time in team history in which a father and son both played for them.
The other two father-son combos are Kevin Butler and son Drew Butler, and them Terry Metcalf and his son Eric.
Let’s find out more about these other father-son combos.
Derek Kennard
The older Kennard was an offensive lineman and played 11 years in the NFL. He played for the Cardinals from 1986-90. Two seasons were in St. Louis and three were in Arizona when the team was called the Phoenix Cardinals. He played in 73 games in five seasons, starting 67 of them.
