WATCH: Longhorns great Eric Metcalf accelerates past Texas A&M defense

The Aggies had no chance to match Eric Metcalf’s speed on this play.

Eric Metcalf is one of the most underrated Longhorns to ever grace the legendary burnt orange uniform. A highlight run against the Texas A&M Aggies surfaced on Twitter putting his elite ability into perspective.

The highlight showed Metcalf is turbo mode running past the Texas A&M defense on his way to a 50-yard touchdown run. The account that shared the highlight clocked the Texas running back’s top speed at 21.7 miles per hour.

The Aggies would go on to win the game to improve to 9-2 while the Longhorns fell to 6-5 on the year. Therein lies the likely reason Metcalf is somewhat forgotten when some discuss the top players in program history. He was simply a great player who played on some teams that underachieved.

Metcalf as as individual player was an unmitigated success. After earning a first round draft selection by the Cleveland Browns, he enjoyed a 13-year career in the NFL. The lightning fast running back and return specialist ended his NFL career in 2002 with the Green Bay Packers.
