Social media reacts to commitment of 5-star defensive lineman, Eddrick Houston

Social media was ablaze after the commitment of 5-star defensive lineman Eddrick Houston to Ohio State. #GoBucks

Ohio State received huge news on Tuesday with the commitment of 5-star defensive lineman Eddrick Houston. Even more impressive is the fact the Buckeyes went to SEC country and swayed one of the top prospects to head north. OSU beat Alabama, Clemson, Georgia and USC for Houston’s services.

As with any news of the sort, the Ohio State social media was in a celebratory mood after the announcement, and we have some of the best X (formerly known as Twitter) reactions to the commitment. While we’re at it, here’s what we see from the talented and strong lineman.

From the coaching staff, to current players, to fellow commitments, here are some of the best moments following the big BOOM! on Tuesday.

What to expect from Ohio State’s newest commitment, defensive end Eddrick Houston

The Buckeyes are getting one of the best all-around defensive lineman in the country #GoBucks

The [autotag]Ohio State football[/autotag] program scored a huge win when 2024 Georgia defensive lineman, [autotag]Eddrick Houston,[/autotag] committed to the program on Tuesday evening.

The 6-foot, 3-inch, 265-pound prospect is considered one of the best in the nation. The 247Sports Composite Rankings puts Houston in the 5-star range, as the No. 4 defensive lineman and 23rd overall player in his class.

This commitment fills a huge need for the Buckeyes, especially after they missed on multiple other defensive ends in the cycle. Houston is a difference maker and it’s easy to see that after watching his junior film along with one contest this season. Find out below what I saw from the newest Ohio State Buckeye.

BOOM! Ohio State gets commitment from 5-star defensive lineman

BOOM! A huge one! #GoBucks

The Ohio State football program got its defensive end with a very big BOOM! on Tuesday evening with the commitment of 5-star defensive lineman, Eddrick Houston.

Out of Buford, Georgia, Houston is rated as the No. 4 defensive lineman at 28th overall prospect in the 2024 class according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He announced his decision to play is college football at OSU over other finalists, Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, and USC.

Make no mistake; after missing out on a few big-time prospects, and a couple of notable ones on the defensive line, getting a pledge from one of the best defensive ends in the recruiting cycle is a huge one.

Houston’s commitment is the 22nd recruit in what is shaping up to be one whale of a 2024 class, one that bolsters the No. 2 overall haul in the country.

It’s been an up and down cycle for Ohio State, but it’s hard to argue with the finished product if all of these verbal commitments do indeed seal the deal and end up signing on the dotted line.

5-star DL Eddrick Houston sets commitment date

Five-star Buford defensive lineman Eddrick Houston has Georgia football in his top schools.

Five-star defensive lineman Eddrick Houston is one of the elite recruits in the class of 2024. Houston plays high school football for Buford High School in Buford, Georgia. Buford is one of the top high school football programs in the country.

The 6-foot-3, 265-pound edge rusher has planned to announce his commitment on Aug. 22 for several months.

The Buford star is the No. 23 overall recruit in the senior class and the No. 4 defensive lineman. Houston is the sixth-ranked class of 2024 recruit in Georgia.

The standout defensive end is a star wrestler and participates in track and field. In wrestling, Houston has won a state championship in the 285-pound weight class.

Who are Houston’s top schools and who is favored to land his commitment?

Ohio State in the lead for Buford 5-star DL Eddrick Houston

Houston is expected to announce his commitment next week.

One of the most-loaded high school football teams in the country is Buford (Ga.). Their roster includes the top overall recruit in the class of 2024—quarterback Dylan Raiola, who’s committed to Georgia—plus several other elite prospects, including five-star defensive lineman Eddrick Houston.

Houston (6-foot-4, 275 pounds) is expected to announce his commitment next week, and according to John Garcia Jr. at Rivals, Ohio State is leading the group of schools that are in the running.

“Houston has been buzzing toward Ohio State since his official visit to Columbus in June, even though he has yet to put out an official group of finalists leading up to his decision. Alabama, Clemson, Georgia and USC are also among those in the running, but they seem to be looking up at Ryan Day’s program at the moment.”

That jives with On3’s prediction model, which currently has the Buckeyes as the heavy favorite at 88.1%. The other supposed contenders for his commitment are Georgia (3.6%), Clemson (2.4%) and Alabama (2.0%).

Houston is ranked as high as No. 3 among defensive linemen in his class and No. 17 overall in the nation, both at Rivals. The other recruiting services all have him a bit lower, but he’s still ranked among the top 10 at his position at all four.

For now, Ohio State is second in the 2024 recruiting rankings behind Georgia, trailing by about 20 points. Landing Houston would go a long way toward shrinking that gap.

Breaking down Ohio State football targets’ scheduled commitment dates

Some OSU recruiting commitment dates to keep track of. #GoBucks

We’re still more than a month away from the college football season and the chance to see YOUR Ohio State Buckeyes make another run at some special things. But in the high-stakes game of big-time college football recruiting, the calendar is a year-round one.

Especially this time of year when the latest cycle’s prospects are getting ready for their senior year of high school right after and during some of the official visits that can lay the groundwork for getting their recruitment out of the way. The thought is to get things done a few months before the early signing period in December to concentrate on the upcoming season.

Ohio State is building on an elite class, one ranked as the No. 2 class in the country for 2024, but the Buckeyes are still trying to add a few more pieces to what’s already in the cupboard to finish it.

There have been several OSU targets that have announced their commitment dates and we’re here to keep track of it all for you. Here’s what we know those still considering the Buckeyes that have set dates to let the world know where they will be playing their college football.

Who is next at defensive end for Ohio State in the 2024 recruiting cycle?

Which top defensive end target do you think lands in Columbus? #GoBucks

[autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] missed on one of its main defensive end targets when Illinois prospect Marquise Lightfoot committed to Miami (Florida).

Many, including myself, thought the 6-foot, 5-inch, 220-pound edge rusher would end up in Columbus. It was a recruiting loss for sure, especially since the coaching staff really put significant resources into getting Lightfoot’s attention.

The good news is the spot he would have taken frees up for another high-level prospect. Find out who the Buckeyes are still actively recruiting at the position and my guess as to how likely each will end up in Columbus on a scale of 1 to 5. (All rankings are from the 247Sports composite.)

Georgia 2024 5-star defensive lineman crystal balled to Ohio State

Big if true #GoBucks

One of the best prospects in the country was visiting [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] this weekend, 2024 Georgia defensive end [autotag]Eddrick Houston[/autotag].

The 6-foot, 3-inch and 255 pound pass rusher already seemed to be favoring the Buckeyes but his official looks to have really put Ohio State in the drivers seat in his recruitment.

247Sports Ohio State insider Bill Kurelic followed suit from a week ago and joined Steve Wiltfong in predicting that Houston will commit to the Buckeyes.

Houston is rated as the 4th best defensive end and 19th overall player in the 2024 recruiting class according to the 247Sports composite rankings. He is set to make his verbal commitment on August 22nd.

Houston still currently has a visit to Alabama on his schedule but Kurelic goes on to say that it might not happen. If he is indeed correct in the trip getting canceled along with Houston’s impending verbal, it would be a massive recruiting win for defensive line coach [autotag]Larry Johnson[/autotag] and head coach [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag].

5-star DE Eddrick Houston sets visit with Georgia football

Buford High School star defensive end Eddrick Houston is visiting UGA and other top programs this summer

Buford High School defensive end Eddrick Houston has planned several official visits this summer. Houston, who is a member of the class of 2024, plans to visit Georgia football on June 9.

The five-star pass rusher also plans to visit USC on May 19, Clemson on June 2, Ohio State on June 16, and Alabama on June 23.

Eddrick Houston has helped Buford win a couple of state championships, in football, against elite level competition in the state of Georgia. The Buford star is the No. 14 overall recruit in the rising senior class and the No. 4 edge rusher. Houston is the fourth-ranked class of 2024 recruit in Georgia.

The junior defensive end is a star wrestler and participates in track and field. In wrestling, Houston has won a state championship in the 285-pound weight class.

Houston has over 30 scholarship offers. The 6-foot-3, 255-pound edge rusher announced that he plans to commit on August 22.

Houston received scholarship offer from the University of Georgia back in March 2021. Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs currently have 12 commitments in the class of 2024 and the second-ranked junior class in the country. However, Georgia is still hoping to add a few more pass rushers in the 2024 cycle.

Latest 247Sports rankings highlights prospects Oklahoma is pushing for

A number of 2024 targets of the Oklahoma Sooners were featured in the latest Top247 update from 247Sports.

For the first time since the end of November, 247Sports updated its 2024 rankings ahead of a busy spring and summer for the next crop of prospects.

Oklahoma is looking to assemble another top-five recruiting class to follow up on their 2023 one that finished as a fourth-ranked class in the 247Sports composite. In looking at these new 247Sports Top247 rankings, there are quite a few targets of the Sooners featured throughout the top 247 prospects in the country.

Among the 32 prospects 247Sports has given five-star rankings, names like [autotag]Williams Nwaneri[/autotag], [autotag]David Stone[/autotag], [autotag]Bryant Wesco[/autotag], [autotag]Sammy Brown[/autotag], [autotag]Kobe Black[/autotag], and [autotag]Eddrick Houston[/autotag] have visited or have been linked to the Oklahoma Sooners.

Nwaneri and Stone are priority prospects for Oklahoma, and if the Sooners landed just one, let alone both, you could already pencil them in as the jewels of the class. Nwaneri is third best prospect in the Top247, while Stone comes in at No. 7 in the update. Bryant Wesco, Oklahoma’s top wide receiver target, moved up to No. 9.

Black and Houston have visited Oklahoma since the start of 2023 and came out of the visits with good things to say about the Sooners’ coaching staff. Sammy Brown, an elite linebacker from the state of Georgia, has Oklahoma on his radar for a visit. He’ll likely be in Norman in April. A good impression there could give Oklahoma their window to sneak in and grab an official visit from Bown.

Plenty of Sooner targets showed up elsewhere in the rankings. Wide receiver [autotag]Zion Kearney[/autotag] slotted in at No. 89, and offensive tackle [autotag]Bennett Warren[/autotag] is ranked No. 82. Safety prospect [autotag]Aaron Flowers[/autotag] is at No. 109, while DL [autotag]Nigel Smith[/autotag] is right behind him at 110. Oklahoma leads in the race for Flowers and Smith.

One shocking drop is Sooners’ priority quarterback prospect Michael Hawkins is no longer rated a four-star by 247Sports. He’s now a three-star and sits as the No. 26 QB in the nation. Hawkins transferred to Frisco Emerson high school in December but has been showing out in the 7-on-7 circuit this spring.

Two prospects that Oklahoma currently leads for, RB [autotag]Caden Durham[/autotag] and LB [autotag]Payton Pierce[/autotag], remain the No. 160 and 164 prospects, respectively.

This spring and summer will allow these prospects to improve their rankings by participating in camps, 7 v 7 tournaments, and other recruiting events. For Oklahoma, the race to earn commitments from these talented young players is a long one. Where they are now in these rankings doesn’t reflect where they will end up when their high school careers conclude in December.
