Ravens QB Lamar Jackson and WR Devin Duvernay connect for incredible play in Week 4 vs. Bills

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson escaped a sack and threw a pass to wide receiver Devin Duverany against the Buffalo Bills

The Baltimore Ravens welcomed the Buffalo Bills to M&T Bank Stadium on Sunday for a Week 4 matchup. Through the first two quarters, the Ravens looked nearly unstoppable on offense and made plenty of stops on defense. One of the more sensational plays in the game came from a familiar name connecting with one of the team’s breakout stars.

With under nine minutes left in the second quarter, Baltimore quarterback Lamar Jackson escaped the arms of two Bills defenders and completed a pass to wide receiver Devin Duvernay. Aside from Jackson escaping the sack, his pass was deflected off tight end Mark Andrews and a Buffalo defender, which eventually found its way into the hands of Duvernay for a 20-yard completion.

Jackson is often credited with making plays happen when nothing is there, and this play will be added to his highlight reel. Duvernay had incredible concentration to haul in the pass that was tipped up in the air, and the two combined for a sure-fire play of the year candidate.

Ravens HC John Harbaugh praises play of WR Devin Duvernay

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh praised the play of wide receiver Devin Duvernay

The Baltimore Ravens pulled off an impressive win against the New England Patriots in Week 3 to improve their 2022 record to 2-1. There have been multiple contributors on offense this season, but one if the most notable ones has been wide receiver Devin Duvernay, who coming into the year was expected to have a bigger role after the departure of wide receiver Marquise Brown.

Duvernay has stepped up throughout the season so far, and caught two passes for 25 yards and a score in Week 3. Ravens head coach John Harbaugh was asked about Duvernay’s big-play ability, saying that he’s fulfilled expectations.

“I would say so. Those are things that we felt like were in his skill set when we drafted him, but it takes, usually, some development in the National Football League. He’s been playing ever since he got here in some capacity, but to see him kind of flourish in the last few games in this season in fulfillment of those expectations is just great. I was in the weight room earlier and saw him, and he’s never satisfied; he’s just never satisfied. That kind of mindset is what goes a long way.”

Duvernay has become one of quarterback Lamar Jackson’s favorite targets this season. The wide receiver has three touchdowns and 121 receiving yards on eight receptions, showing off his big-play ability on special teams as well. He returned a 103-yard kickoff for a touchdown in Week 2 against the Miami Dolphins, and has produced some electric plays over the first three weeks of the 2022 season.

Week 1 highlights from former Longhorns in the NFL

Former Longhorns balled out in Week 1 of the NFL season.

The 2022 NFL season is officially off and running. Week 1 wrapped up Monday night after an exciting opening slate of games.

Many former Longhorns had successful starts to the new year.

Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Devin Duvernay looks to be one of Lamar Jackson’s favorite targets thus far. Duvernay hauled in two touchdowns in the dominant win over the Jets.

Miami Dolphins safety Brandon Jones was all over the field against the Patriots on Sunday. Jones tallied 11 tackles, one forced fumble and one sack in the victory.

His teammate Connor Williams performed great on the offensive side of the ball as well. Williams graded out as the best offensive player on the field for Miami.

Linebacker Jordan Hicks showed out in his Vikings debut. He picked up a team-high 14 tackles and a sack in Minnesota’s huge win over Green Bay. Hicks helped shut down Aaron Rodgers to just seven points in the ballgame.

Denver Broncos tight end Andrew Beck channeled his best Odell Beckam Jr. impression on Monday Night Football. He made an incredible one-handed snag early in the game against Seattle.

Here is a look at the highlights from the former Longhorns’ impressive starts to the NFL season.

Two former Longhorns named AP first-team All-Pro

Devin Duvernay and Justin Tucker are getting recognized for their great seasons.

Baltimore Ravens teammates and former Longhorns Devin Duvernay and Justin Tucker have been named to the 2021 AP first-team All-Pro team.

It was the first time Duvernay has made the team while this marks Tucker’s fifth All-Pro appearance.

It took just two seasons for Duvernay to become an All-Pro. Duvernay was voted on as a punt returner after leading the league in yards per return and finished No. 2 in total return yards.

Tucker is widely regarded as the best kicker in the NFL and many consider him the best kicker in league history. He had another fantastic year in 2021. Tucker made a league-best 94.6% of his field goals and was a perfect 32-32 on extra-point attempts. Not to mention Tucker hit an NFL record 66-yard game-winning field goal against the Lions.

Duvernay and Tucker’s special seasons just strengthens Texas’ argument in the “special teams university” debate.

Three former Longhorns named to the NFL Pro Bowl

Texas will be well represented in the NFL Pro Bowl.

The NFL announced their 2022 Pro Bowl rosters for both the AFC and NFC on Wednesday night and Texas fans saw three familiar faces on the list.

Seattle Seahawks safety Quandre Diggs has been selected for his second straight Pro Bowl. Diggs tied his career-high after snagging his fifth interception of the season from an errant Matt Stafford pass on Tuesday night. This marks the second straight pro bowl for the veteran defensive back.

2022 marks pro bowl No. 5 for Justin Tucker. The Ravens kicker is the most accurate in NFL history (90.9%) and made an NFL record 66-yard field goal this season. Tucker received almost 200,000 Pro Bowl votes, by far the most for any kicker in the NFL.

Tucker’s teammate Devin Duvernay was selected to his first career pro bowl. Duvernay will represent the AFC as a return specialist. A big accomplishment for the second-year wide receiver.

The 2022 Pro Bowl will take play on Feb. 6 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

Texas DB Josh Thompson accepts Reese’s Senior Bowl invite

A great opportunity for Josh Thompson.

The Reese’s Senior Bowl began to announce their list of players who have accepted invites on Tuesday. Texas defensive back Josh Thompson was selected to be part of the game and its activities.

Thompson’s season ended early due to a fractured fibula he suffered against Kansas.

The fifth-year senior started 22 games in his Texas career, logging two interceptions and 108 total tackles. Thompson also played a valuable special team role.

Against Texas Tech early in the season, Thompson jumped in front of a Tyler Shough pass taking it the other way for a Texas score.

Thompson joins Quandre Diggs, Devin Duvernay, Sam Ehlinger and many other former Longhorns to participate in the Senior Bowl.

Many former Longhorns stood out in the NFL in Week 9

From Colt McCoy to Sam Ehlinger, several former Longhorns had a big weekend in the NFL. Take a look at some of their highlights here.

The current Longhorns are struggling, falling short in their fourth straight game on Saturday, but many former players enjoyed success with their respective NFL teams over the weekend.

There are currently 33 lifetime Longhorns on an active NFL roster. It ranks as the 13th most amongst schools in the country.

Starting on Thursday night football, former Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger made his NFL debut for Indianapolis. Ehlinger took the first regular-season snap of his career after spraining his ACL during the preseason.

Colt McCoy started in place of injured Kyler Murray for Arizona on Sunday, proving he is one of the best backup quarterbacks in the league. McCoy carved up the 49ers for 249 yards, one touchdown and a remarkably efficient 85% completion percentage. The Cardinals beat the 49ers 31-17 behind Colt’s stellar performance.

Denver rookie Caden Sterns has been capitalizing on his early playing time for the Broncos. Established quarterbacks are becoming well aware of Sterns’ play. After sacking Lamar Jackson earlier in the season, Sterns picked off Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott this weekend, helping seal a 30-16 victory for Denver.

Alex Okafor came up with a huge blocked field goal for the Chiefs. The block kept Green Bay off the scoreboard early as Kansas City went on to win 13-7.

Devin Duvernay made the best catch of his NFL career on Sunday. He reached back to snag a Lamar Jackson pass with one hand to tie the game in the fourth quarter for Baltimore.

In the same game, the Ravens won 34-31 in overtime on future hall of fame kicker Justin Tucker’s 18th career game-winning field goal.

Four landing spots in the 2020 NFL Draft for Devin Duvernay

Because of Duvernay’s stellar season, he has shot up on many NFL Draft boards. Here are four potential landing spots for Devin Duvernay:

After having an explosive senior year for Texas, Devin Duvernay was one of the best wide receivers in the entire country this season. Finishing with 106 catches for 1,386 yards and nine touchdowns, Duvernay was the guy quarterback Sam Ehlinger looked to in critical situations. Because of his stellar season, he has shot up on many NFL Draft boards, projecting him anywhere on the second or third day of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Many teams are in need of wide receivers this season and luckily, it is a loaded class. Some of the most historic teams like the Cowboys, Packers, and Patriots could all be drafting the position towards the end of the draft. Another organization that needs weapons for their franchise quarterback are the Eagles.

Wherever Duvernay ends up, he has a good chance of being a solid receiver. His size and speed, mixed with his excellent hands give him the ability to play multiple positions. Wherever NFL teams need him to play, Duvernay is going to be able to do it.
