Boom! Ohio State gets commitment from 2022 four-star quarterback

Ohio State has received a verbal commitment from the No. 5 quarterback in the 2022 class. #GoBucks

Recently we learned about Jack Miller deciding to enter the transfer portal and leave Ohio State. And just like that, the Buckeyes have filled the opening with a commitment from four-star prospect, Devin Brown.

Brown is the No. 5 ranked quarterback in the 2022 class according to 247Sports composite rankings. Formerly a USC commit, Brown reopened his recruitment after Clay Helton was fired as the Trojans head coach. The Utah native had visits with Ole Miss and Texas but ultimately fell in love with Ohio State.

Brown rewrote the high school single-season record books while playing at Corner Canyon High School in Draper, Utah with 4,881 yards and 57 touchdown passes. How Ryan Day continues to get top QB talent with an already crowded room is anyone’s guess. But Brown seems locked in and ready to compete.

When Quinn Ewers reclassified and enrolled a year early at OSU, it left the Buckeyes without a quarterback in the 2022 class. Brown more than fills that need.

The Buckeyes now have the No. 6 ranked class for the coming season and will be looking to add more before the early signing period on December 15.

Four-star QB Devin Brown commits to Ohio State over Texas, Ole Miss

WATCH: Texas QB target Devin Brown shows out in playoff game

Texas target Devin Brown looked very, very promising on Friday evening.

With every game that goes by, it feels as if the quarterback of the future is not currently on Texas’ roster.

Whether Steve Sarkisian dips into the transfer portal to grab someone with college experience, or relies on a recruit from the high school ranks, Texas has plenty of options to fix their issue at quarterback.

The Longhorns already hold a commitment from California native and 2022 four-star Maalik Murphy, but Sarkisian has made it clear that ideally he would like to take two quarterbacks in his first full class as the Texas head coach. Recently, Texas has been linked with current USC commit and four-star quarterback Devin Brown out of Corner Canyon High School in Draper, Utah.

Hailing from the same school that produced USC quarterback Jaxson Dart and New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson, Brown has been absolutely electric all season. He led his team to the playoffs where they faced off against Lone Peak on Friday night.

In a very back and forth game that saw a combined 91 points, Brown’s record-breaking performance was not enough to advance his team to the next round. He finished the game with three passing touchdowns, one rushing touchdown, and completed 21-of-28 passes for 368 yards.

If the Longhorns were to flip Brown from his USC commitment, he very well could come in and compete for the starting job as a freshman, as he has a great arm and is very elusive.

Take a look at some of his fantastic plays from his final high school game.

USA TODAY High School Sports recruiting rankings Power 5 spotlight: Pac-12

See the top 10 high school football recruits committed to Pac-12 schools.

As recruiting for the high school football class of 2022 picks up, more and more schools are seeing who may be its superstars of the future.

The majority of the Pac-12 has struggled with recruiting, as Stanford and Oregon have combined for the same number of five- and four-star recruits as the other 10 schools.

Here’s a dive into the top-10 ranked players, according to the USA TODAY High School Sports Composite Player Rankings, The list averages the grades from the three biggest recruiting services: 247Sports, ESPN and Rivals.

For conferences that do not have 10 players in the top-100, the remainder of the list came from the 247Sports Composite Ranking.

Five-star OT Kelvin Banks, four-star QB Devin Brown named flip candidates for Texas

Texas is linked with two big names committed to other schools.

With the calendar about to flip from October to the month of November, we’re about to be in the home stretch of recruiting. The early signing day is scheduled to take place on Dec. 15.

As things stand, Texas has 22 commitments in its 2022 cycle but there is still a lot of work to be done. Not only for prospects without a school attached to their names such as five-star WR Evan Stewart or five-star CB Denver Harris, but with a few guys committed elsewhere.

247Sports laid out a list of 12 recruits who could be considered on flip watch heading into November. The Longhorns were linked with two names in five-star offensive tackle Kelvin Banks and four-star quarterback Devin Brown.

Banks is one Texas has been pursuing for a while, being one of the top-ranked kids within the state. Brown, on the other hand, is one of the most recently offered prospects as Steve Sarkisian continues to look to expand the quarterback room.

Texas offers 2022 four-star QB, current USC commit Devin Brown

Texas has begun looking to add second options at quarterback for the 2022 class.

Texas is beginning to makes moves in the quarterback market. Even with four-star Maalik Murphy already in the 2022 class, Steve Sarkisian is still looking to add another signal-caller.

It seems as if four-star Devin Brown has been made the target. The current USC commit got an offer from Texas on Monday night. Ohio State has offered within the past week as well.

With the uncertainty surrounding the Trojans’ coaching search, Brown’s recruitment has begun to explode. An official visit to Ole Miss took place two weekends ago with fellow quarterback guru Lane Kiffin making his pitch.

Brown is ranked the No. 1 player in the state of Utah and a top 10 quarterback in the class. It should come as no shock that Sarkisian is searching for guys on the west coast considering his roots.

Offering Brown may lead people to believe there will be some kind of exit within the quarterback room at the end of the season. Whether it is Hudson Card entering the transfer portal or Murphy decommitting from the class.

I’ll just say this. Stacking up elite-level quarterbacks is important. Just look at what Ohio State has done, even before Quinn Ewers reclassified. Yes, two guys are more than likely to portal at some point but wouldn’t you rather they have their chance in your program than not?

Texas only has three legit quarterbacks right now in Card, Casey Thompson, and Charles Wright. If Brown does end up a Longhorn and Murphy sticks out his commitment, Sarkisian will have a couple of years to evaluate his options. And there’s nothing wrong with having options.

USC commit Devin Brown tosses 8 touchdowns in Corner Canyon debut

Devin Brown made it abundantly clear that he is Corner Canyon’s next elite quarterback in the Chargers’ season opener on Friday night.

Devin Brown made it abundantly clear to everyone who follows Utah high school football that he is Corner Canyon’s next elite quarterback in the Chargers’ season opener on Friday night.

Brown, who played last season at Queen Creek High School in Arizona, tossed eight touchdown passes — four in the first and second quarters — in his Corner Canyon debut, a dominant 72-21 win over Farmington High School for the program’s 41st straight win. Brown did not take a single snap in the second half of Corner Canyon’s blowout victory, as the Chargers led 65-14 at halftime.

Brown’s eight touchdown passes in a single game tie the record for third-most in Utah state history. Former Lehi High School star Cammon Cooper holds the record with 10.

Brown, a USC commit, helped his stock tremendously during the summer, impressing at the Elite 11 finals. Brown is the No. 11 quarterback in the class of 2022, according to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Corner Canyon will likely be ranked when USA Today debuts its Super 25 high school football rankings. The Chargers are 52-1 since head coach Eric Kjar took over the program in 2017 and are in search of their fourth straight state championship. Next up on Corner Canyon’s schedule is East High School on Aug. 21.

A top 2022 Wisconsin QB target is headed to the Pac-12

The Badgers lose out on a top 2022 QB

The Badgers lost out on their top 2022 QB target in the cycle when Arizona native Devin Brown announced his commitment earlier today via Twitter. Wisconsin has yet to earn a 2022 commitment after initial 2022 commit S Braelon Allen decided to reclassify to 2021 and be on campus a full year earlier.

Brown was another example of a QB that Wisconsin offered before he ever made a varsity start at Queen Creek High School in Arizona. The Badgers offered rising redshirt freshman Graham Mertz and 2021 QB commit Deacon Pe’a Hill before they respectively made varsity starts. Despite taking a visit to campus last year, the Badgers miss out on the Grand Canyon State star.

Brown is the lone QB commit at this extremely early stage in USC’s 2022 class.

USC offers Wisconsin’s top quarterback target in the class of 2022

The Wisconsin Badgers have been on a quarterback recruiting tear recently with commitments from 2019 four-star Graham Mertz and 2021 four-star Deacon Hill.

Their top target at the position in the class of 2022, now, is three-star pro-style quarterback Devin Brown.

Brown currently has a 247Sports crystal ball prediction to Wisconsin but yesterday picked up an offer from the USC Trojans.

247Sports currently has the Queen Creek, Arizona native as the No. 466 player in the class of 2022, the No. 25 pro-style quarterback and the No. 3 recruit from the state of Arizona.

USC obviously has the track record at quarterback that the Wisconsin football program lacks, with names including Carson Palmer, Matt Leinhart, Mark Sanchez, Matt Barkley and Sam Darnold.

If the crystal ball prediction were to hold up the Badgers’ recent quarterback recruiting success would continue for another class. This USC offer is significant, though, and only time will tell what it means for Brown and his recruitment.
