Texas trending for four-star TCU commit Warren Roberson

Texas may not be done adding to its 2023 recruiting class.

Texas may not be done adding to its 2023 recruiting class.

The Longhorns are trending for TCU defensive back commit Warren Roberson. Texas received a handful of 247Sports crystal ball projections in their favor on Friday.

The four-star from Red Oak is committed to the Horned Frogs but decided not to sign in the early signing period. Roberson is listed as the No. 22 safety and a top 50 player in the state of Texas.

Roberson served as a do-it-all player at the high school ranks playing defensive back, wide receiver and kick returner. He projects to the defensive side of the ball at the college level.

Roberson is expected to make a visit to Texas this weekend. Steve Sarkisian and Texas staff are hoping to pull off another flip on the recruiting trail over the Big 12 rival.

Texas Football: Longhorns eyeing two massive recruiting flips

Flipmas coming early for the Longhorns?

Steve Sarkisian and Texas’ coaching staff are not giving on on two priority targets in the 2023 recruiting class. The Longhorns remain all-in on five-star linebacker Anthony Hill and four-star defenive end Colton Vasek.

Texas appears to be trending in the right direction for both prospects. The Longhorns received multiple crystal ball projections in their favor for Hill and Vasek on Monday afternoon.

Hill announced his decommitment from Texas A&M on Monday and is scheduled to be in Austin this weekend for Texas’ matchup against TCU. Vasek is still verbally committed to Oklahoma but has been no stranger to Texas’ campus over the past few weeks.

Flipping the two blue-chip players would push Texas’ 2023 recruiting class up to No. 2 in the 247Sports composite rankings.

Last season the Longhorns struck gold by flipping five-star left tackle Kelvin Banks from Oregon late in the process. Time will tell if Texas’ relentless recruiting strategy is to pay off again this go around.

Texas offers 2023 four-star ATH Jelani McDonald out of Waco

Texas is eyeing on a potential flip of the Oklahoma State commit.

Steve Sarkisian and his staff have extended an offer to four-star athlete Jelani McDonald. The Waco product is one of the quickest rising prospects in the class of 2023.

Texas has some ground to make up in this recruitment as McDonald verbally committed to Oklahoma State back in July.

247Sports’ composite rankings list McDonald as the No. 15 athlete and a top 300 player nationally.

McDonald is a true do-it-all player on the football field. He plays in all three phases of the game for Waco Connally High School. McDonald is the primary quarterback, defensive back and even serves as the team’s main punter.

He is a multi-sport star who excels on both the basketball court and the track.

Texas hopes to add McDonald to the visitor list for its matchup against Iowa State on Oct. 15. The Longhorns are looking to flip the four-star from Big 12 Conference foe Oklahoma State.

Five-star OT Kelvin Banks, four-star QB Devin Brown named flip candidates for Texas

Texas is linked with two big names committed to other schools.

With the calendar about to flip from October to the month of November, we’re about to be in the home stretch of recruiting. The early signing day is scheduled to take place on Dec. 15.

As things stand, Texas has 22 commitments in its 2022 cycle but there is still a lot of work to be done. Not only for prospects without a school attached to their names such as five-star WR Evan Stewart or five-star CB Denver Harris, but with a few guys committed elsewhere.

247Sports laid out a list of 12 recruits who could be considered on flip watch heading into November. The Longhorns were linked with two names in five-star offensive tackle Kelvin Banks and four-star quarterback Devin Brown.

Banks is one Texas has been pursuing for a while, being one of the top-ranked kids within the state. Brown, on the other hand, is one of the most recently offered prospects as Steve Sarkisian continues to look to expand the quarterback room.
