The Philadelphia Eagles are starting to hit their groove and after acquiring Marquise Goodwin via trade, the Philadelphia Eagles selected speedy Boise State wideout John Hightower in the fifth round.

A JUCO transfer with only two years of experience at Boise State, Hightower continues to get better with each passing year.

Last season while averaging almost 19 yards per catch, Hightower had 51 catches for 943 yards and 8 touchdowns.

In a move that should make Eagles fans extremely happy, the team has acquired speedy veteran wide receiver Marquise Goodwin from the San Francisco 49ers.

Goodwin is scheduled to make $4.5 million in salary and bonuses after Goodwin battling injuries last season, playing just nine games.

Goodwin, 29, has played seven NFL seasons, making 140 catches for 2,323 yards and 13 touchdowns, with one of the highest yards per catch average in the NFL.

Philadelphia Eagles final 7-round mock draft

Here is our final Philadelphia Eagles 7-round mock draft as we get closer to the 2020 NFL Draft on April 23, 2020.

The Philadelphia Eagles head into the 2020 NFL Draft with some major holes on their roster, mainly at wide receiver and linebacker. After not signing one free agent pass-catcher, Eagles fans would love to see their favorite team select a receiver with the 21st overall pick.

Luckily for Eagles’ fans, the 2020 NFL Draft is almost here, with the first round set to start on Thursday, April 23, 2020, at 7:00 PM EST. This NFL Draft will be very unique because of COVID-19, so teams will be drafting from home, reminiscent of your fantasy football draft with your friends.

In our post-combine 7-round mock draft, the Eagles took former LSU wide receiver, Justin Jefferson, with the 21st overall pick, but in our post-free agency 7-round mock draft, the Eagles traded the No. 21 overall pick to the Jacksonville Jaguars for defensive end Yannick Ngakoue.

This is our final 7-round mock draft before the 2020 NFL Draft.

*Note: This is what we would consider doing, not what we think the Eagles will do. Also, all draft pick values are referenced from the 2020 NFL Trade Value Chart (via DraftTek.com).*

Round 1, Pick 30 (From Green Bay): Kenneth Murray, LB, Oklahoma

*Trade*

Eagles receive: Pick 30 (620), Pick 94 (124), and Pick 136 (38) (782 total)

Packers receive: Pick 21 (800)

The expectation is that the Eagles will select a wide receiver with the 21st overall pick. If Justin Jefferson is still available at that spot, the Eagles should stay put and take the stud receiver from LSU. However, as we get closer to draft day, it seems more and more likely Jefferson will be gone, along with the other top 3 wide receivers. For that reason, the Eagles should trade down and collect some extra draft picks in a loaded draft class.

The Green Bay Packers know that their window with quarterback Aaron Rodgers is closing, so the Eagles should target them as a team they can trade back with. In this trade back, the Eagles get the Packers 1st round pick, as well as an extra 3rd and 4th rounder.

With the 30th overall pick in the first round, the Eagles take former Oklahoma linebacker, Kenneth Murray. A lot of analysts and pundits do not believe the Eagles will take a linebacker in the first round, which is fair thinking. Philly has not valued linebackers for a very long time. It has been 41 years since they have taken a linebacker the first round, but it is time for the thinking to change.

Murray would be an instant starter for the Eagles and give them the stud linebacker they have needed. Murray is so aggressive on the field and he just flies around and makes plays. He would become an instant fan favorite in Philly and give the Eagles a building block on defense.

It is also worth noting former Eagles scout and lead NFL Draft analyst for NFL Network Daniel Jeremiah had the Eagles taking Murray in his latest mock. So, yes, this may not make you happy, but the Eagles should add Murray to their defense.

LeSean McCoy angling to finish his career with the Philadelphia Eagles?

LeSean McCoy says he would love to return to the Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles currently have two running backs on the roster and the franchise’s all-time leading rusher would like to add his name to the mix.
While chatting with Ian Rapoport on WestwoodOne Radio, McCoy opened up about his exit from Philadelphia and his yearning desire to finish with the team that drafted him out of Pitt.

“It’s not a secret. Everybody knows it was a special place for me there when I was playing for the Eagles. I started there, they kind of changed my life for the better. I was 20 years old, you know? Coach Reid brought me up.”

“A lot of my best friends I played with, we’re still good friends. I just talked to Fletcher Cox, what, yesterday, just texting him and messing around. A lot of my good friends are still there.”

“So it would mean a lot for me to play back there when I’m done – to finish, I should say, my career out there.”

McCoy is coming off a healthy scratch in the Chiefs Super Bowl win over the 49ers and the market for him looks dry at this time.

With Howie Roseman and the Eagles proclaiming a youth movement, McCoy simply may not fit in the plans at this time.

McCoy is the leading rusher in Eagles history, with 6,792 yards and could choose to retire as an Eagle is he can’t find any free-agent suitors.

Eagles land at No. 12 in ESPN’s 2020 post free agency Power Rankings

Philadelphia Eagles No. 12 team in ESPN’s NFL 2020 Power Rankings

The Philadelphia Eagles are preparing for the NFL and looking ahead to some semblance of an NFL season amid the COVID-19 crisis.

Even with everything going on, ESPN Insiders have been paying attention to the offseason transactions and the Birds just landed a favorable ranking in the post-free agency power rankings.

Carson Wentz and company landed right outside the top-10, coming in at No. 12.

12. Philadelphia Eagles

Way-too-early ranking: 14

Three words: Send receivers, STAT! The Eagles did not address wide receiver during the main wave of free agency, even with Nelson Agholor departing for the Raiders and Alshon Jeffery still recovering from Lisfranc surgery. The plan is clear: to address the need in the draft by drawing early and often from what has been dubbed a historic wide receiver class. That approach leaves little room for error. The pressure is on to get it right come April. — Tim McManus

The Cowboys and Buccaneers landed in front of the Birds at 11 and 10 respectively.

While the Eagles wait to load up on receivers via the draft, Howie Roseman restocked the talent pool, acquiring Darius Slay via trade, and signing Javon Hargrave, Nickell Robey-Coleman, Jatavis Brown, Will Parks.

The team also re-signed Jalen Mills and Rodney McLeod at the safety position.

Potential Eagles draft target Brandon Aiyuk undergoes core-muscle surgery

Potential Eagles draft target Brandon Aiyuk undergoes core-muscle surgery

Brandon Aiyuk has drawn some comparisons to DeSean Jackson because of his explosiveness and it appears the Eagles potential draft target has some similarities in the injury department.

The former Arizona State star is expected to be ready for the 2020 NFL season after choosing to undergo core-muscle surgery.

Aiyuk is silky smooth, rising up draft boards and has the potential to become a YAC monster in the NFL.

He’d be a perfect complement to the Eagles wideouts and would definitely bolster Carson Wentz’s play.

Chargers safety Derwin James wins EA Sports’ Madden 20 Tournament

No one wants to take on Derwin James on the football field, as well as on Madden.

Chargers safety Derwin James is one of the best players in the league, and one of the best Madden players.

James was crowned champion of the Checkdown x Madden Tournament, which was a Madden 20 tournament to help raise money for COVID-19 relief efforts, taking down Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill.

James used the 49ers while Hill played with the Bears.

Hill couldn’t find the scoreboard, only managing three points after scoring 104 points in the last two rounds prior to the championship matchup. Meanwhile, James’ offense was too dominant for Hill to stop as he racked up a whopping 52 points.

James worked his way to the top by taking down his own teammate Keenan Allen 14-6 in the first-round, following that up by defeating Eagles’ DeSean Jackson by the score of 50-27 in the semifinals.

With his earnings from winning the tourney, a donation will be made in James’ name to a COVID-19 charity of choice.

10 Eagles with the biggest cap numbers for 2020 NFL season

10 Eagles with the biggest cap numbers for 2020 NFL season

The Philadelphia Eagles entered the start of free agency with around $44 million in cap space, and with the several huge contracts on the horizon for the coming season and the trade for Darius Slay, it’ll be interesting to see what the future holds for several big named veterans.

Carson Wentz will be playing on the last year of his rookie deal and the Birds will likely have a decision on Fletcher Cox, whose cap number continues to rise with each passing day.

With the Eagles in the midst of their retool and youth movement, here’s a look at the ten biggest cap numbers for this upcoming season via Over The Cap.

***

1) Fletcher Cox $22.8M

The Eagles signed Cox to a 6 year, $102.6 million extensions in 2016 and although his play has dipped some, he’s still one of the top-2 defensive tackles in the game and warrants his salary.  The 2020 season will be Cox’s last with guaranteed money and it’ll be a situation to watch.

Confident DeSean Jackson has a bold prediction for the 2020 NFL season

DeSean Jackson says he’ll be back stronger than ever

DeSean Jackson gave Eagles fans a glimpse of the chemistry he and Carson Wentz developed during the 2019 season opener, but it was short-lived after a core muscle injury.

As the Eagles prepare to retool the entire roster, Jackson expects to be an integral part of the 2020 season and recently made a bold prediction to NBC Sports Philadelphia.

“I’ll be back stronger than ever,” Jackson said during an XFL game in Los Angeles last weekend.

Jackson missed 13 total games due to injury before ultimately undergoing core muscle surgery in November. After a season that was essentially a redshirt year, Jackson is ready to further cement his status in Eagles’ history.

“I’m just trying to shatter all the records that I haven’t gotten yet,” Jackson said. “Jerry Rice still holds one of them and I was fortunate last year to get up there with Randy Moss. Continuously going after the greats but at the same time being blessed to be in a position I’m at and taking nothing for granted. Going out there every day and putting in the work. Longevity is a big thing in the league, a lot of guys not able to make it to where I’m at, so I’m continuing to count my blessings.”

Jackson currently ranks 8th in Eagles history with 365 catches, 4th in yards with 6,276 yards and 9th in total touchdowns with 34 scores.

Jackson currently ranks fifth among active players, with 10,420 career yards, putting him behind only Larry Fitzgerald (17,083), Jason Witten (12,977), Julio Jones (12,125) and Antonio Brown (11,263).

A healthy Jackson along with an influx of youth at the wide receiver position is just what the doctor ordered for the Eagles offense.

2020 NFL Futures Betting: NFC East Division Winner

Analyzing the 2020 NFL futures odds for which team will win the NFC East Division, with sports betting picks, tips and best bets.

The NFL offseason is still very young. The draft is still a month away, and free agency is still a couple of weeks away, but it isn’t too early to start looking at NFL Futures betting. Looking at the NFC East, where it appears to be a two-team division with two rebuilding teams.

Despite being early, we look at the futures odds to win the AFC North.

2020 NFC East odds: Dallas Cowboys (+110)

The Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles are the favorites to win the division and are almost even money. Dallas was viewed as the more talented team in 2019 that simply under-performed, leading to the Eagles’ division win. They are one of three teams in the division with a new coach, as Mike McCarthy replaces Jason Garrett. Dallas’ offseason is focused on a pair of players — QB Dak Prescott and WR Amari Cooper. Both will be free agents. They still have a talented offensive line and arguably the best running back in the NFL in RB Ezekiel Elliott. They could lose CB Byron Jones in free agency and will likely have to address the tight end position. Offense wasn’t the problem, as they were tops in the league in yards gained and in the top five in scoring. No matter what happens in the offseason, Dallas should be in the mix to win the division. However, despite McCarthy’s track record in the league and having the same odds as the Eagles, it does take time to adjust to a new offensive and defensive system. They are a good bet but not a slam dunk by any means.

2020 NFC East odds: Philadelphia Eagles (+110)

The Eagles have the most stability in the division. They are the only team in the East to have their head coach return, and QB Carson Wentz returns as the starter. Questions remain about whether he is the long-term answer at the position after injuries derailed a promising trajectory. They were ravaged by injuries in 2019, especially at receiver and were middle-of-the-pack both offensively and defensively. They are expected to bolster the offense at receiver to give Wentz more than just a tight end and running backs to throw the ball to. They struggled in the defensive secondary. That will be an area of focus.

However, Doug Pederson is the one coach who remains in the division from 2019, and he has taken the Eagles to the playoffs each of the last three seasons with a Super Bowl title. As such, they make the smart play to win the division.

2020 NFC East odds: New York Giants (+900)

The Giants have a new head coach in Joe Judge and rebuild with young talents on offense, led by QB Daniel Jones, RB Saquon Barkley and WR Sterling Shepard. With the fourth pick in the draft, they can give Jones more protection or add a defensive playmaker. After all, it was the defense that was the problem all season.

The Giants’ long odds are reflective of what it would take for the Giants to take a big leap from being a four-win team to a division winner. With better protection, Jones and Barkley can lead an offensive improvement and, with the right defenders being added, they make for an unlikely division winner, especially with a rookie head coach.

They are not a good bet.

2020 NFC East odds: Washington Redskins (+1200)

Washington cleaned out the front office and fired Jay Gruden. They replaced him with Ron Rivera as head coach, but they are truly rebuilding. They find themselves in a similar situation as the Arizona Cardinals in 2019. They have a second-year quarterback whose rookie season was far from impressive. They have a high draft pick and new coach. The Cardinals made strides with rookie QB Kyler Murray but still only won five games.

QB Dwayne Haskins should not be expected to improve the way Lamar Jackson or Patrick Mahomes did between their first and second years, and if the Redskins move on from him and draft a quarterback like Tua Tagovailoa or Justin Herbert, he won’t likely play at the level that Murray did as a rookie.

Essentially, while 12:1 odds does offer an intriguing payout, it would basically be throwing money away.
