Former Eagles’ linebacker Davion Taylor signs with the Bears

Former Philadelphia #Eagles linebacker Davion Taylor has found a new home, signing with the Chicago Bears C

Davion Taylor has landed on his feet, signing a deal with the Chicago Bears after being released ahead of the first preseason game.

Taylor was an Eagles third-round draft pick in 2020.

Taylor saw action in 21 games, including seven starts between the 2020 and 2021 seasons, but his speed and athleticism never transitioned into constant production.

After regressing in 2021, Taylor spent last season on the practice squad.

Eagles release linebacker Davion Taylor

The Philadelphia #Eagles have released linebacker Davion Taylor ahead of Sunday’s open training camp practice

The Davion Taylor era is likely over in Philadelphia, as the Eagles have released the 2020 third-round pick in a move that could signal the end.

With Taylor being released so early in training camp, it’s unlikely that he’ll be a candidate for the 16-man practice squad.

Taylor spent the entire 2022 NFL season on the Eagles practice squad after seeing time at the WILL linebacker spot in 2020 and 2021.

Drafted out of Colorado as a raw linebacker who excelled as an athlete, Taylor entered 2023 looking to make the 53-man roster, and potentially earn snaps.

Philadelphia currently has Nakobe Dean at one linebacker spot, along with Nicholas Morrow, Shaun Bradley, and Christian Elliss competing for playing time.

Predicting the Eagles’ 16-player practice squad for 2023 after OTAs

We’re taking an early look at predicting the Philadelphia Eagles 16-man practice squad after OTAs and ahead of training camp

The Eagles have concluded OTAs, and they’ll break until late July and then report for training camp as they work to shred a 90-man roster down to 53.

Howie Roseman has been open about building the roster with undrafted free agents, and the 2023 class had several big-named stars holding second-day draft grades.

Philadelphia officially welcomed seven new members to their roster with their 2023 NFL draft class, and the wealth of young talent signed to the training camp roster won’t be reduced to just that group of players.

One week after the draft, the team announced the signings of 9 undrafted rookies ahead of the minicamp.

Recent undrafted free agents who’ve had game action with Philadelphia include Reed Blankenship, Britain Covey, Josh Jobe, Corey Clement, Sua Opeta, Nate Herbig, Kayode Awosika, Joe Ostman, Jack Stoll, Brett Toth, Greg Ward, Marvin Wilson, T.J. Edwards, and future Hall of Famer Jason Peters, who originally signed with the Bills.

We previously released our updated 53-man roster predictions, and with training camp fast approaching, we’re predicting Philadelphia’s 16-man practice.

Eagles salary cap: Breaking down Philadelphia’s $54 million in dead money

With the 2023 NFL offseason almost complete and training camps looming we’re breaking down the Philadelphia Eagles’ $54 million in dead cap space

The NFL’s June 1 date is just 24 hours away, and with that you can expect some trades, shocking releases and team salary caps impacted by dead money going on or off the books.

So what is dead cap?

Any future, unpaid, guaranteed salary or bonus or any already paid signing bonus that hasn’t yet been allocated to the salary cap becomes the responsibility of the team in the event of a release.

The salary cap will increase to $224.8 million for the 2023 season.

For some teams, the slight increase in cap space provides a little breathing room to retain players on expiring deals or acquire talent that could help them succeed in the upcoming season.

With OTAs underway, we’re breaking down the Eagles $54 million in dead cap space, fourth among all NFL teams.

Philadelphia added Nicholas Morrow in free agency and could look to add more to the roster in the coming weeks.
