Seahawks sign CB Damarion Williams to practice squad

Seahawks sign CB Damarion Williams to practice squad

The Seattle Seahawks have filled the open spot on their practice squad. On Wednesday, the team announced they had signed former Baltimore Ravens cornerback Damarion Williams to the practice squad. Head coach Mike Macdonald’s old Ravens connections once again proves strong.

Williams fills the open spot left vacant due to Seattle releasing fellow cornerback Eric Garror on Tuesday.

Originally a fourth round pick in the 2022 NFL draft, Williams had only known the Ravens as his NFL home up until now. He played in 14 games for Baltimore as a rookie, recording 24 total tackles and defending two passes. Regrettably, Williams only played in one game during the 2023 season, and spent the rest of it on the injured reserve list.

In college, Williams had 163 total tackles and three interceptions during his three seasons with the Houston Cougars. He also returned a few punts as well.

Seattle’s health and depth at cornerback has been tested as of late, so it is wise for the organization to add someone like Williams, who is familiar with Macdonald’s system, to the practice squad.

Ravens announce three roster moves ahead of Week 7 matchup vs. Buccaneers

Ravens sign Yannick Ngakoue to the 53-man roster, release Sala Aumavae-Laulu and release Damarion Williams from the practice squad.

The Ravens announced three roster moves ahead of their Monday night matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.  Baltimore officially signed Yannick Ngakoue to the 53-man roster.

The team also released offensive lineman Sala Aumavae-Laulu from the active roster and released Damarion Williams from the practice squad.

In two games with the Ravens as a practice squad elevation, Ngakoue has logged a sack and multiple pressures as an edge rusher.

Aumavae-Laulu has been active for two games this season but has not played any offensive snaps. The 2023 sixth-round pick out of Oregon was inactive for every game as a rookie.

Ravens sign DB Damarion ‘Pepe’ Williams to the practice squad

Baltimore Ravens sign Damarion ‘Pepe’ Williams to the practice squad

On Tuesday, the Ravens brought back a familiar face, signing cornerback Damarion ‘Pepe’ Williams to the practice squad ahead of the Week 6 matchup against the Washington Commanders.

Baltimore made the move after Houston, Texas, signed Ka’Dar Hollman off the practice squad to their 53-man roster.

Williams was waived back in August ahead of the 53-man roster cut down.

Williams entered the summer behind Marlon Humphrey and Arthur Maulet and on the Ravens’ depth chart. Jayln Armour-Davis outplayed the former Houston star defensive back, and the additions of Nate Wiggins and T.J. Tampa in the NFL draft made earning a roster spot even more difficult.

Broncos host 3 cornerbacks for tryouts

The Broncos brought in cornerbacks Christian Holmes, Zech McPhearson and Damarion Williams for tryouts on Monday.

Christian Holmes wasn’t the only defensive back who visited the Denver Broncos on Monday.

The Broncos also brought in cornerbacks Zech McPhearson and Damarion Williams for tryouts, according to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis.

McPhearson (5-11, 191 pounds) entered the league as a fourth-round pick out of Texas Tech with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2021. He played in 33 games from 2021-2022 and totaled 30 tackles, two pass breakups and one sack. McPhearson then missed the entire 2023 season with a torn Achilles. He is healthy now, but McPhearson did not make Philly’s 53-man roster.

Williams (5-10, 180 pounds) was picked by the Baltimore Ravens in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL draft out of Houston. He totaled 24 tackles and two pass breakups in 14 games as a rookie before missing all but one game in 2023 with an ankle injury. Williams was waived by Baltimore last week.

Holmes (6-1, 205 pounds) had his visit reported earlier today. A former seventh-round pick, Holmes has spent time with the Washington Commanders and New York Giants.

Broncos cornerback tryouts

  1. CB Christian Holmes
  2. CB Zech McPhearson
  3. CB Damarion Williams

Denver’s 53-man roster and 17-player practice squad are both full, so if the Broncos add any cornerbacks, the team will have to cut somebody to make room for any potential new arrivals.

Ravens rookie DB Beau Brade switches jersey number

Baltimore Ravens rookie defensive back Beau Brade is switching uniform numbers ahead of the season opener vs. the Kansas City Chiefs

Beau Brade got from the muscle, going from a local undrafted free agent product to the Ravens’ 53-man roster and a potential role on a championship-caliber defense.

Brade can fill the alley on run plays or rush the quarterback as a Blitzer, and as the rookie prepares for a trip to Kansas City to face the reigning Super Bowl champion Chiefs, he’s switching jersey numbers.

Damarion Williams was waived, and after re-signing to the practice squad, Brade will move from No. 6 to No. 24.

Brade had an outstanding preseason, leading the Ravens in tackles with 19 total.  The former Maryland Terrapins safety is also a homegrown story. He grew up in Clarksville, MD, and attended River Hill High School.

Giants hosted several recent draft picks as part of mass workout

The New York Giants hosted 15 players for workouts on Thursday, including five players who were recently draft picks.

The New York Giants had a busy day in East Rutherford on Thursday, complete with the week’s final practice, head coach and player press conferences, and a mass workout that included several recent draft picks.

Among those in attendance were cornerbacks D.J. James, Zech McPhearson, Damarion Williams and Kyu Blu Kelly, and quarterback Chris Oladokun.

James was a sixth-round pick of the Seattle Seahawks in the 2024 NFL draft but was waived after starting his career on the non-football injury (NFI) list. He was named Second-Team All-SEC in 2022 at Auburn.

McPhearson was a fourth-round pick of the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2021 NFL draft and has the most experience of any drafted player who worked out. He’s appeared in 33 career games, recording 30 tackles, one QB hit, one sack, and two passes defensed. McPhearson suffered a torn Achilles during the 2023 preseason and missed the whole year.

Williams was a fourth-round pick of the Baltimore Ravens in the 2022 NFL draft and has appeared in 15 career games, recording 24 tackles and two passes defensed.

Kelly was a fifth-round pick of the Ravens in the 2023 NFL draft and has also made brief stops with the Seattle Seahawks, Green Bay Packers, and Washington Commanders. He’s appeared in eight career games and recorded five tackles.

Oladokun was a seventh-round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2022 NFL draft but found his way to the Kansas City Chiefs after being released as a rookie. He’s picked up two Super Bowl rings as a member of the Chiefs, serving as the quarterback of their practice squad.

The following players also took part in Thursday’s workout:

  • Safety Al Blades
  • Wide receiver Kaden Davis
  • Wide receiver Alex Erickson
  • Cornerback Eric Garror
  • Defensive back Jason Maitre
  • Linebacker Andrew Parker Jr.
  • Offensive lineman Julian Pearl
  • Linebacker Yvandy Rigby
  • Wide receiver David Wallis
  • Cornerback A.J. Woods

Although Erickson went undrafted in 2016, he’s carved out a solid career for himself as a return specialist. He’s appeared in 107 games and returned 162 punts for 1,303 yards, and 110 kickoffs for 2,729. He led the NFL in kick return yardage (810) as a rookie in 2016.

None of the players who worked out were immediately signed.

Baltimore Ravens release CB Damarion Williams ahead of 53-man roster deadline

Jeff Zrebiec reports that the Baltimore Ravens are releasing veteran cornerback Damarion Williams ahead of Tuesday’s deadline, a move that could be described as shocking and maybe unexpected.

Williams entered the summer behind Marlon Humphrey and Arthur Maulet and on the Ravens depth chart.   Jayln Armour-Davis outplayed the former Houston star defensive back, and the additions of Nate Wiggins and T.J. Tampa in the NFL draft made earning a roster spot even more difficult.

Top photos from Ravens 16-13 loss to Eagles in preseason opener

We’re looking at the top photos from the Baltimore Ravens 16-13 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the preseason opener at M&T Bank Stadium

The Ravens returned to the field for live game action for the first time since their heartbreaking, 17-10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC title game.

Baltimore hosted Philadelphia at M&T Bank Stadium, with both teams on similar arcs, and championship paths. Starting quarterback Lamar Jackson sat out along with key starters on both sides of the football.

Eagles kicker Jake Elliott made a 49-yard field goal with no time remaining to give the Philadelphia Eagles a 16-13 victory after Baltimore quarterback Emory Jones — who had just entered the game — was sacked and fumbled on the next play.

The recovery by Patrick Johnson gave Elliott his final opportunity of the night.

With Baltimore set to start preparation for the Falcons in the second week of the preseason, we’re looking at the top photos from Friday night.
