49ers roster moves: DL Daelin Hayes waived to make room for new CB

The #49ers waived/injured DL Daelin Hayes to make room on the roster for a new CB.

The 49ers on Saturday announced a couple roster moves ahead of their preseason opener Sunday vs. the Las Vegas Raiders.

San Francisco waived/injured defensive lineman Daelin Hayes and signed cornerback Nate Brooks.

Brooks was an undrafted free agent addition by the Cardinals following the 2019 draft. He’s primarily been a practice squad player with the Cardinals, Patriots, Dolphins, Ravens, Buccaneers, Titans and Raiders. Brooks has seen action in four games, including three with the Dolphins in 2019 and one with the Ravens in 2020. He started two of those three games with Miami and had a pair of pass breakups to go along with 11 tackles.

Hayes will revert to season-ending IR with the 49ers if he clears waivers. From there he can reach an injury settlement and be released or stay on IR for the season.

The Baltimore Ravens drafted Daelin Hays in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL draft.  The outside linebacker out of Notre Dame was hoping to make an impact on the Ravens’ roster, but injuries plagued his first few years in the league in a big way, as he only played in one game with the team.

Per the NFL’s transaction wire, Hayes was waived by Baltimore on Monday. He had high expectations placed on him after the draft, but never really had a chance realize it with how injuries impacted his career in such a major way.

Every Notre Dame NFL draft pick since 2000

There have been 102 Notre Dame players drafted since 2000. How many more will hear their names called this week?

Notre Dame’s 21st century didn’t start the way anyone would have liked as the Bob Davie, Tyrone Willingham, and Charlie Weis eras all left something to be desired but the ship changed course under Brian Kelly who led the Irish back to the brink of the greatness that is expected for Notre Dame football.

Since 2000, more than 100 different Notre Dame football players have had their names called in the NFL draft.  Several others have signed as undrafted free agents but we’ll focus on those who were drafted for now.

Last year saw Kyle Hamilton and Kyren Williams have their names called.  This spring Michael Mayer and Isaiah Foskey will certainly hear theirs early, and others will join them in days two and three of the draft.

So who are the 102 who have had their names called since 2000?

Who wound up having the best careers and who didn’t have the career they or you were hoping?

You can almost certainly name plenty but there are some former Notre Dame greats you’ve likely forgotten about as well.  Here are the 102…and counting.

18 former Notre Dame players to make the 2022-23 NFL Playoffs

Who are you rooting for this NFL postseason?

The 2022 NFL regular season came to a close over the weekend as the 18-week campaign finished with the Detroit Lions knocking Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers from what would have been the final playoff spot in the NFC.  Instead, the Seahawks sneak in as the seven seed as the playoffs are set to get underway this Saturday.

Of the 14 teams to make the postseason, 10 of them feature at least one former Notre Dame player on the roster with 18 former Domers in all reaching the postseason.  Now, not all 18 of those are on active rosters but they are all current parts of rosters on NFL playoff teams.

So if your favorite NFL squad isn’t playing, who should you root for this NFL postseason?  Perhaps one of your favorite former Notre Dame standouts who is participating.

Ravens HC John Harbaugh praises OLB Daelin Hayes for practice performances

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh praised the practice performances of OLB Daelin Hayes

The Baltimore Ravens have plenty of up-and-coming contributors that could make a huge impact during the 2022 season. One of those players is outside linebacker Daelin Hayes, who showed flashes in 2021 but lost most of his rookie year due to injuries.

Hayes has been making an impact during the early portions of 2022 practices, impressing in both voluntary organized team activities as well as mandatory minicamp. When Baltimore head coach John Harbaugh was asked about his thoughts on Hayes and what he’s strung together so far, he had a plethora of praise for the second-year player.

“All those guys … Daelin [Hayes] is a great example of it, and all those guys, they’re flashing and they’re showing some good things. The next step will be training camp [and] getting to the quarterback, as much as we allow them to, when the pads come on, and then in the games and all that. But he [Daelin Hayes] has flashed. He knows the defense, he’s very confident out there right now, and there are a lot of guys like that.”

Ravens honor military families on Memorial Day

The Baltimore Ravens teamed up with Flags of Valor and Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors to honor military families

Memorial Day is the annual holiday that honors the United States military personnel who died while serving the country. The last Monday in May is used to reflect on the Americans who made sacrifices for freedom in the country.

The Baltimore Ravens and head coach John Harbaugh on Monday honored military families for Memorial Day. Baltimore teamed up with the Flags of Valor and Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors. The families created a personalized wooden American Flag to honor the fallen service member in their family.

Players in attendance for the Memorial Day event included tight end Mark Andrews, outside linebacker Daelin Hayes and cornerback Marlon Humphrey. Andrews acknowledged that those who have served in the U.S. military for the country to have its freedom is one of the most important things to do.

“People that have served and you know given their lives for us and for us to have our freedom you know that’s one of the biggest things you can do, and there’s a lot of that in Baltimore, a lot of people have served in Baltimore and just thinking about them and everybody else who has served in the U.S.”

Ravens make three roster moves ahead of Week 17 matchup vs. Rams

The Ravens made three roster moves ahead of their Week 17 game with the Rams

The Baltimore Ravens have been no stranger to making roster moves, especially over the course of the 2021 season. With injuries and COVID-19 severely impacting their season, the team has had to find contributions from elsewhere on the roster and even outside of the organization

On Saturday, the team announced three roster moves ahead of their Week 17 matchup with the Los Angeles Rams in putting rookie outside linebacker Daelin Hayes on injured reserve, signing offensive tackle David Sharpe to the 53-man roster and placing practice squad defensive back Mazzi Wilkins on the Reserve/COVID-19 list.

Hayes only played in one game for the Ravens during his first year in the NFL, but had knee and ankle injuries impact his season. Sharpe has played well for the team in spurts, and Wilkins has spent the last few weeks with Baltimore on their practice squad.

Ravens announce inactives for Week 16 matchup vs. Bengals

The Ravens have officially released their inactive players for their Week 16 matchup against the Bengals

The Baltimore Ravens have been one of the most injured teams in the NFL during the 2021 season. They’ve had to use the next man up strategy every single week, and that isn’t changing in Week 16 against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Baltimore announced their full list of inactives on Sunday before game time, with quarterback Lamar Jackson headlining the list. The offense is going to be interesting to watch today, as journeyman quarterback Josh Johnson will get the start in this first-place showdown.

The offense will also be without wide receiver Devin Duvernay, fullback Patrick Ricard, outside linebacker Daelin Hayes and offensive lineman Tyre Phillips and Ben Powers.

This is going to be one of the most interesting games in Ravens history.  The number of injuries and COVID absences has this contest as something to watch.  If Baltimore can somehow overcome and figure out how to pull out the win, then it might be one of the biggest wins in franchise history.  It would also be a huge bright spot on John Harbaugh’s Coach of the Year campaign.
