Georgia football remains No. 2 in College Football Playoff rankings

Georgia football remains No. 2 in College Football Playoff rankings

Undefeated Georgia football remains the No. 2 team in the country according to the College Football Playoff rankings released on Tuesday night. The top four didn’t change from the initial rankings a week ago:

  1. Ohio State
  2. Georgia
  3. Michigan
  4. Florida State

There was a possibility the Bulldogs would jump the Buckeyes after beating then No. 12 Missouri in Athens. But the committee wasn’t fazed by Ohio State’s struggles against Rutgers (6-3) in Week 10.

Alabama remains at No. 8 following a 42-28 win over then No. 14 LSU, which dropped four spots to No. 18.

Georgia has another chance to make a statement to the committee this week with No. 9 Ole Miss coming to town.

After the matchup with the Rebels, the Bulldogs will travel to No. 13 Tennessee (Nov. 18), which moved up four spots after beating UConn (1-8) at home.

With wins over Ole Miss and Tennessee, Georgia should play for the SEC championship as the No. 1 team in the nation.

Kickoff versus the Rebels is set for 7 p.m. ET, televised on ESPN.

Brad Crawford predicts Texas vs Georgia in College Football Playoff

The Texas Longhorns (8-1) are still in the College Football Playoff race.

The Texas Longhorns (8-1) are still in the College Football Playoff race. One analyst appears confident in the team to make it there despite the Longhorns’ No. 7 ranking.

247Sports college football analyst Brad Crawford unveiled his New Years Six predictions ahead of Week 11. Surprisingly, Texas made it into his playoff prediction.

The prediction places Texas against reigning national champion Georgia in the Sugar Bowl. The teams last met in the same stadium in 2018.

In the other playoff semifinal, Crawford has Ohio State and Florida State clashing for a trip to the title game. It would be worth monitoring whether or not the playoff committee would send Florida State to the Sugar Bowl and Texas to the Rose Bowl instead.

Elsewhere, Oklahoma State is chosen as the Big 12’s second New Years Six representative. The prediction sends the Pokes to the Peach Bowl to face the Penn State Nittany Lions.

Michigan, Alabama and Oregon were excluded from this playoff prediction.

We will have a fuller picture of whether or not Texas can finish in the top four when the playoff rankings are revealed on Tuesday night.

The first College Football Playoff rankings of the year have been released, and LSU sits at No. 14.

The first College Football Playoff rankings of the year have been released, and LSU sits at No. 14.

The Tigers are two spots behind Missouri, who LSU beat earlier this season. There has been a lot of talk about that, but LSU has two losses and Missouri only has one. Florida State comes in at No. 4 in the first playoff rankings.

The Tigers still have a chance to make a run all the way into the top four by the time the rankings matter. LSU will need to win out to make that happen. Brian Kelly discussed his thoughts on the rankings ont he SEC coaches teleconference Wednesday.

“It’s really where you’re ranked in December,” Kelly said, per On3. “These earlier rankings… it’s early in the race. Everybody is jockeying for position. It’s much better to be undefeated at this time because you allow yourself a little better of an opportunity.”

The path to the playoffs runs through Tuscaloosa this Saturday night.

After nine weeks of the college football season, we finally got our look at the first release of the College Football Playoff rankings, and if you are on this Ohio State homer site, then we’re guessing you are here because you want to know where the Buckeyes landed.

After a lot of speculation and conjecture, the CFP committee revealed the rankings and placed Ohio State on top of them all at No. 1, followed by Georgia (2), Michigan (3), and Florida State (4) rounding out the top four teams.

Finishing out the top ten were Washington, Oregon, Texas, Alabama, Oklahoma, and Ole Miss. The other Big Ten team in the rankings was Penn State at No. 11.

Georgia football ranked No. 2 in initial College Football Playoff rankings

UGA football ranked high in initial College Football Playoff rankings ahead of the Georgia-Missouri game

The College Football Playoff rankings have been released after Week 9 of the 2023 college football season. The back-to-back defending national champion Georgia Bulldogs check in as the No. 2 team in the College Football Playoff rankings.

Georgia is ranked behind the No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes. The playoff selection committee really likes Ohio State’s wins over Notre Dame, Penn State, and Wisconsin. Truthfully, the Buckeyes have played a tougher opening schedule than the Georgia Bulldogs.

No. 2 Georgia begins playing against tougher opponents over the next several weeks. The committee ranks Michigan as the nation’s No. 3 team and Florida State No. 4. The Washington Huskies round out the top five at No. 5.

Georgia’s Week 10 opponent, the Missouri Tigers, checks in as the No. 12 team in the College Football Playoff rankings. Missouri is 7-1 and has quality wins over Kansas State, Memphis, and Kentucky.

Georgia additionally has upcoming games with No. 10 Ole Miss and No. 17 Tennessee. Last season, Georgia began the year as the No. 3 team in the rankings before beating No. 1 Tennessee at home en route to winning a second straight national championship. Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs have not defeated a team currently ranked in the College Football Playoff rankings.

CBS Sports’ Jerry Palm issues predictions for first CFP rankings

The Tigers will learn where they stand in the initial CFP rankings Tuesday night.

The first set of College Football Playoff rankings are set to be released Tuesday night as we enter the month of November and Week 10 of the college football season.

We’ll know how the top 25 looks soon enough, but in the meantime, CBS Sports’ Jerry Palm issued his prediction for what the rankings will look like. He disagrees slightly with the current polls, which have LSU sitting at No. 13 across the board.

Instead, Palm has LSU at No. 12 in his CFP rankings prediction. Here’s what he had to say about coach Brian Kelly’s group, which takes on Alabama on Saturday night in Tuscaloosa.

The Tigers have basically had two weeks off with an actual bye last week and a 62-0 shellacking of Army the week prior. It’s all about being as fresh and healthy as possible for the trip to Alabama. If the Tigers win, it will create a three-way tie in the SEC West with the Tide and Ole Miss — all three teams would have a win and loss among the group.

The initial CFP rankings will be released Tuesday night at 6 p.m. CT on ESPN.
