Will Badgers get back in win column versus Indiana?

The Badgers football team (5-3) will face Indiana (2-6) on Saturday at 11AM. The two programs have faced each other 62 times throughout their football history with Wisconsin owning a 41-19-2 overall record against their Big Ten foe.

Over the last 10 matchups, the Badgers have gone 9-1, but they lost their last matchup in 2020 by a score of 14-6. Prior to the loss though, Wisconsin had averaged an eye-popping 60 points over their previous five contests with the Hoosiers.

The most notable storyline for the contest is the fact that the Badgers are in a four-way tie with Iowa, Minnesota and Nebraska for first place in the Big Ten West. All four teams currently sit at 3-2 in conference games.

Luke Fickell and his Wisconsin squad in all likelihood needs to win versus Indiana to keep their conference championship game hopes alive.

Wisconsin vs Indiana Game Preview

Why Wisconsin Will Win

Wisconsin might be struggling, but Indiana is really having a few problems.

The offense doesn’t work.

The Hoosiers can shoot just fine on the inside, and they’re careful about moving the ball around to get a good shot – at times – but the threes just aren’t there, the free throw shooting is atrocious, and it’s been a problem to get to 60 points over the last several games.

Wisconsin might not have the defense you think it does, but it doesn’t turn the ball over, the shooting has been okay, and it’s a good enough rebounding team to make IU pay for its misses.

However …

– Latest Polls AP | Coaches

Why Indiana Will Win

Which Wisconsin team will show up?

The threes aren’t there lately, the overall shooting is the worst in the Big Ten, and the D just isn’t coming up with enough stops.

Rutgers went off from three in its shocking 73-65 win, Illinois was great on the inside, and overall, everyone who can do anything on the inside can score if there’s just a little bit of patience.

Indiana has a good inside defensive presence, the rebounding will matter against a Badger group that just doesn’t generate second chance points, and …

What’s Going To Happen

Indiana can’t hit free throws.

It’s an easy gameplan for the Badgers. Pack it in, dare the Hoosiers to shoot from the outside, and go ahead and hack away and assume the empty possession will come.

How bad is the shooting? IU hasn’t hit 30% from three in any of the last three games and it can’t hist 60% from the line lately.

That’s going to matter late against a Badger team that finds an extra gear on the road.

Indiana basketball dealing with injury issues ahead of tonight’s matchup with Wisconsin

The Hoosiers will be shorthanded in Madison

Indiana looks like they will be shorthanded tonight in Madison when the Hoosiers face the Badgers in a Big Ten clash.

In Indiana’s 63-55 win over Maryland on Monday, second-leading scorer Armaan Franklin exited with an ankle issue, and head coach Archie Miller did not give a promising diagnosis postgame. While Miller did not meet with the media on Wednesday, he said on Monday that Franklin was doubtful to go in Madison.

Senior center Joey Brunk has been out this entire year due to what was originally though to be a minor back injury turning more serious. Without Franklin’s 12.7 points and nearly five rebounds per game, Indiana’s backcourt depth shrinks to relying on true freshman. This could be an opportunity for five-star 2020 signee Khristian Lander to get extensive run. The premier high school recruit in the state of Indiana hasn’t been heavily featured so far for Archie Miller and crew.

The 7-4 Hoosiers and the 9-2 Wisconsin Badgers will tip things off at 6 CT in Madison.

How crazy is it to try predicting a college football game months in advance when 1) there wasn’t any spring ball, 2) there aren’t any real depth charts to go off of, 3) no one has ANY clue how to get sports going again, and 4) we don’t even know what the 2020 season is going to be?

Just crazy enough to potentially get some fantastic values on the early lines.

You can bet now at BetMGM on a whole lot of college football games – including going really insane looking at lines in November – with the possibility of hitting something big.

We’ll be diving in a whole lot deeper when we do this for real just before the season – crossing fingers that there is one. But for now …

Wisconsin vs Indiana Game Preview: Preseason Version

Why Indiana Will Win

It’s a dangerous Indiana team with the type of passing game that should test the Badger secondary, but will balance out the attack with RB Stevie Scott.

On the other side of the ball, against a Wisconsin team with a rebuilding offensive line that loses three starters – all in the interior – and has to deal with a Hoosier defensive front that should be the best yet in the Tom Allen era.

[lawrence-related id=511933]

Experience across the board isn’t a problem, there’s enough talent among the starting 22 to be ready right away, and QB Michael Penix will be back and healthy.

Everything is in place for a breakout moment for the program on a Friday night, but …

Why Wisconsin Will Win

The Badgers are loaded again.

Losing Jonathan Taylor is hardly a plus, and C Tyler Biadasz and the interior of the line really will be an early concern. Throw in the loss of top WR Quintez Cephus, and it might take a little bit to get everything going.

But everything else is in place.

The defense is a killer with everyone back in the secondary, the line big and deep, and with just enough talent back at linebacker to make up for the loss of Zack Baun and Chris Orr.

What’s Going To Happen

Watch out. Indiana has enough in all phases to come up with a sharp, good performance to throw a major scare into the defending Big Ten West champ. But the Badger running game will do what the Badger running game does and take over as the game goes on.

Penix will be a problem, but the Wisconsin secondary will come up with just enough stops in the second half to survive a whale of a Big Ten opener.

Wisconsin (20-10) vs. Indiana (19-11) Game Preview

If want in on this week’s games, sign up with BetMGM

Why Wisconsin Will Win

Just when it seemed like this was going to be a lost season or the Badgers, they went on a run of seven straight wins to shoot to the top of the Big Ten standings. Win, and they’ll at least share a piece of the regular season conference championship.

The shooting has kicked in, the defense has become air-tight against three-point shooters, and it’s Wisconsin – turnovers aren’t happening.

As is, Indiana is miserable from the outside and they’re dead last in the Big Ten in turnovers. It’s a sloppy team that can’t hit the three – that’s in Wisconsin’s wheelhouse.

“Go to the bank!” Today’s top pick of the day just released

Why Indiana Will Win

Indiana should be just fine in the NCAA Tournament mix, but it lost two of its last three games, and it could be in big trouble with a bad loss and a poor performance in the Big Ten Tournament.

For all of the good things the Badgers do, they don’t rebound all that well and should have problems on the inside. At home, the Hoosiers should ramp up the intensity, the defense should be solid enough to keep this close, and they’ll hit everything from the line.

IU leads the Big Ten in free throw attempts. Wisconsin doesn’t get to the line, but …

What’s Going To Happen

Wisconsin hits its free throws, and Indiana doesn’t.

In a groove, the Badgers are making the plays needed in key late stretches, they’re hitting the clutch shots, and they’re playing relatively loose and free. Indiana has won its last three games at home, but it’s going to struggle on the line.
