Tom Herman ranks the Longhorns No. 6 in final Coaches Poll

Herman ranked Michigan, Washington, Georgia, Alabama, and Florida State ahead of the Texas Longhorns.

The final US LBM Coaches Poll was released on Tuesday, with Texas coming in at No. 4. Many coaches showed respect for Texas by having them ranked within the top three. Former Texas coach Tom Herman did not think the same way as others.

The Florida Atlantic head coach put Texas No. 6 in the final Coaches Poll behind Michigan, Washington, Georgia, Alabama, and Florida State. Despite making it to the College Football Playoff and beating Alabama in a head-to-head matchup, Herman put the Longhorns behind the Seminoles and the Crimson Tide.

Now, why would he do this?

Honestly, no one truly knows. He must believe that Texas didn’t deserve to be in the College Football Playoff, otherwise the Longhorns would have been among the top four of his rankings.

Herman was fired from Texas following the 2020 season, and despite a winning record and going 4-0 in bowl games, Herman wasn’t the coach of the future in Austin.

With an improved culture under Steve Sarkisian, Texas finished the 2023 season with a 12-2 record, Big 12 Championship, and a College Football Playoff berth.

Penn State ranked no. 13 in final US LBM Coaches Poll of 2023 season

Where is Penn State ranked in the final US LBM Coaches Poll of the football season?

The final votes have been tallied for the 2023 season, and Penn State ended the season with a top-15 ranking. The final US LBM Coaches Poll was released on Monday, a day after the College Football Playoff national championship game. Penn State fell three spots out of the top 10 and down to no. 13 in the final coaches poll of the 2023 season.

Penn State dropped three spots after losing to no. 9 Ole Miss in the Peach Bowl in Atlanta. Ole Miss moved up two spots with their win and jumped ahead of no. 10 Ohio State, who also fell three spots following their Cotton Bowl loss to no. 8 Missouri.

Fresh off their first national championship since 1997, Michigan took all 63 first-place votes in the US LBM Coaches Poll. Michigan was followed by an incoming Big Ten member and the team they defeated in the championship game, Washington. The Huskies were then followed by no. 3 Georgia, who blew out no. 6 Florida State in the Orange Bowl. Texas and Alabama, respectively, completed the final top-five of the season.

Only one other Big Ten team ended the year in the top 25 of the coaches poll. Iowa fell five spots down to no. 22 after their bowl game loss. Future Big Ten member Oregon, who dominated Liberty in the Fiesta Bowl, finished the year ranked no. 7 in the US LBM Coaches Poll.

West Virginia, whom Penn State defeated in the season opener and faces on the road to open the 2024 season, ended the year ranked no. 25 in the coaches poll.

Alabama ranks No. 5 in final US LBM Coaches Poll

The College Football season has come to a close and the Crimson Tide finishes inside the top 5.

Alabama’s loss to Michigan in the College Football Playoff Rose Bowl semifinal left the Tide short of returning to the top as champions, but the team did accomplish something great this season.

Despite early struggles and many analysts, media members and fans calling Alabama done for, the team improved every week and ultimately won the SEC championship and made the playoffs.

To top it all off, the team finished ranked inside the top five in the final US LBM Coaches Poll.

Where SEC teams finished the 2023 season on the US LBM Coaches Poll

The college football season came to a close on Monday with Michigan defeating Washington in the National Championship. Here’s how the SEC did.

Florida finished the 2023 college football season 5-7 and stayed home during bowl season, so it’s not surprising to see the Gators left off the final US LBM Coaches Poll update of the year.

The Michigan Wolverines finished on top of the mountain as the undisputed No. 1 team in the country. The Wolverines knocked off the Washington Huskies, 34-13, on Monday night in the College Football Playoff National Championship.

Georgia jumped three spots to No. 3 in the rankings with a dominant, 63-3, over No. 6 Florida State. Texas, which will join the SEC in 2024, finished at No. 4, and Alabama rounds out the top five.

The SEC finished with four top-10 teams. Missouri and Ole Miss own the Nos. 8 and 9 spots, respectively. LSU moved up a spot to No. 12, Oklahoma finished at No. 15 and Tennessee rounded out the ranked teams in the conference at No. 17 overall.

It’s been four years since Florida finished a season ranked. Hopefully, 2024 will see that streak snapped.
