LSU women’s basketball staying put at No. 7 in AP Top 25 once again

The Tigers will hold the No. 7 spot in the AP Poll for another week.

LSU had a lengthy holiday break, but it returned to the court on Saturday to host Jacksonville in a decisive 110-68 blowout.

While that and the fact that No. 6 USC and No. 5 Texas lost may have led you to believe the Tigers would finally move up after a lengthy stay at No. 7 in the AP Top 25, that’s not what happened.

LSU did jump the Trojans, but it was leapfrogged by both Colorado, which upset it in the opener and beat a ranked Utah team this past week, and Baylor, which handed previously No. 5-ranked Longhorns their first loss of the season.

The Tigers have now wrapped up non-conference play and will begin their SEC slate on Thursday when they host Missouri.

LSU ranks No. 6 in latest women’s basketball USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll

The Tigers took down Coppin State 80-48 on the road in their only outing this week.

The Tigers remained No. 7 once again in the AP Top 25 this week after easily dispatching Coppin State 80-48 on the road in Baltimore in their only game of the week.

However, the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll for women’s basketball was once again higher on coach Kim Mulkey’s squad than the AP. LSU ranks No. 6 once again in the coaches poll, marking the third week in a row.

Winners of their last 12, the Tigers still rank higher than the Colorado squad that beat them, and they’re the second-highest-ranked one-loss team behind Caitlin Clark and Iowa, which ranks third in the nation.

LSU currently has some time off for the holiday break, but it will return to the court on Dec. 30 for its final non-conference game against Jacksonville. After that, SEC play begins as Missouri comes to the Pete Maravich Assembly Center on Jan. 4.

LSU women’s basketball ranks No. 7 in AP Top 25 for seventh week in a row

It’s also the 20th consecutive week that the Tigers have been ranked in the top 10.

It’s the slow time of the year for LSU’s women’s basketball team, which has some time off for the holidays.

The Tigers played one game this week, a decisive 80-48 road win in Baltimore against Coppin State on Wednesday night. That wasn’t enough to result in a change in the AP Top 25, though, which ranked LSU at No. 7 for the seventh week in a row.

It’s also the 20th consecutive week that the Tigers have been ranked in the top 10.

Once again, the top 10 remained unchanged. South Carolina still stands atop as the unanimous No. 1 team, while LSU sits one spot ahead of the only team that beat them, Colorado. Only one team with a loss — No. 4 Iowa — ranks higher than the Tigers.

LSU will return to the court on Dec. 30 for one final non-conference game against Jacksonville before beginning SEC play on Jan. 4 against Missouri.

LSU women’s basketball remains No. 7 once again in AP Top 25

The Tigers sit at No. 7 for the sixth week in a row.

LSU did about everything you could ask of it this week, delivering two blowout wins against McNeese — in which it scored a program-record 133 points in an 89-point win — and Northwestern State. But victories over two struggling in-state teams didn’t move the needle in the rankings.

The Tigers still rank No. 7 in the nation in the latest AP Top 25, which is where they’ve sat for six weeks since losing to Colorado in the season opener. There were no changes in the top 10, where unbeaten South Carolina remains the unanimous No. 1 team.

The only one-loss team that currently ranks above LSU is 11-1 Iowa, which it defeated in the national championship last year.

LSU will return to the court one more time on Wednesday at Coppin State before it takes a break for the holidays.

LSU women’s basketball takes a slight dip in USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll despite Louisiana win

The Tigers haven’t lost since their opener, but they still fell a couple of spots this week.

While the Tigers have been locked at No. 7 in the AP Top 25 since their season-opening loss to Colorado, the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll has been much kinder.

Coach Kim Mulkey’s LSU women’s basketball team rose as high as No. 4 after a top-10 win over Virginia Tech, but despite winning its only game of the week by 30 points against Louisiana on Sunday, it dropped a couple of spots in this week’s poll.

The Tigers fell to No. 6 as they were leapfrogged by NC State and USC, both of which are still perfect on the season. LSU sits at 9-1 on the year but has won nine games in a row since that season-opening loss.

After beginning the season at No. 1, the defending national champions have some work to do to get back there. South Carolina, which was unanimously voted the top-ranked team this week, is on the schedule later in the year for LSU.

It will now look to extend its win streak to double digits as it hosts a struggling McNeese team at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center on Tuesday night.

LSU women’s basketball remains No. 7 once again in AP Top 25 after Louisiana win

LSU sits at No. 7 for the fifth week in a row.

LSU’s women’s basketball team had a lengthy break following a top-10 win over Virginia Tech, but it returned to the court on Sunday with a decisive 83-53 win over Louisiana to move to 9-1 on the young season as the Tigers have now won nine games in a row since dropping their season opener.

While they’ve moved back into the top five of the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll, they remain at No. 7 in the latest AP Top 25, where the team has stood since it lost to Colorado in its first game.

There were no changes overall to the top 10 this week. South Carolina remains No. 1, and the undefeated Gamecocks received every first-place vote.

After five straight weeks at No. 7, LSU will hope that can change with home games this week against McNeese and Northwestern State.

LSU women’s basketball moves up within top 5 of USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll

The coaches are higher on the Tigers than the media, which ranked them No. 7 in the AP Top 25 once again.

While the LSU women’s basketball team is still trying to climb its way out of the No. 7 spot in the AP Top 25, the coaches are a bit higher on Kim Mulkey’s squad.

It ranked No. 5 last week, and after taking down a top-10 opponent in Virginia Tech in its only competition this past week, LSU is moving up in this week’s USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll.

The Tigers have now moved up to No. 4, sitting behind South Carolina, UCLA and the Iowa team that it defeated to win a national title last season. The Gamecocks and Bruins are undefeated, though the Hawkeyes do have one blemish on their resume.

LSU sits at 8-1 on the year but is riding an eight-game winning streak since falling to Colorado in its season opener. It will look to extend that streak when it returns to the court on Sunday to host Louisiana.

LSU women’s basketball remains No. 7 in AP Top 25 despite Virginia Tech win

A top-10 win wasn’t enough to boost LSU in the polls this week.

LSU only played one game last week, but it was certainly a good win.

The Tigers got their first marquee win of the season, dominating No. 9 Virginia Tech to win 82-64 in a top-10 showdown. They looked much better in that game than they did in the season-opening loss to Colorado, but it wasn’t enough to see a bump in the AP Top 25 this week.

LSU remains at No. 7 in this week’s AP Poll, though they no longer share that spot with Colorado, which now has a loss on its resume to NC State suffered back on Nov. 25 and fell to No. 8.

However, the Tigers were jumped by Texas this week, so they’ll be holding serve as they move down the stretch in non-conference play, which features five winnable games before SEC contests begin.

Tigers check in at No. 13 in final College Football Playoff rankings

The committee made perhaps the most controversial decision in its history on Sunday.

Championship weekend is behind us, but the chaos it wrought may linger in the sport for a while.

It resulted in perhaps the committee’s most controversial decision in the College Football Playoff era as it snubbed an undefeated ACC Champion Florida State team in favor of Alabama, which won the SEC with an upset against Georgia that snapped a record 29-game win streak for the Bulldogs.

Now, the field is set as Michigan will take on the Crimson Tide in one semifinal while Washington takes on Texas in the other.

Outside of the top group, there wasn’t a ton of shakeup in the final rankings, and LSU remains similarly situated as it does in both polls after championship weekend.

Here’s the full top 25 in the committee’s final rankings.

Where Tigers land in AP Top 25 after championship weekend

There was a lot of chaos within the top 10, but not much of it ultimately impacted LSU.

We’re now onto bowl season after a wild championship weekend that featured Alabama upsetting Georgia in the SEC Championship.

While the rest of the championship matchups in the Power Five proved to be chalky, that win had a massive impact on the College Football Playoff race. After Florida State struggled again in a win over Louisville, the Jordan Travis-less Seminoles were left out in favor of Nick Saban’s squad.

The chaos of conference title weekend shook up the top 10, but not so much beyond that. LSU held its spot in the US LBM Coaches Poll, and the same is true in the AP Top 25 this week.

Here’s the full AP Poll after championship weekend.
