11 remaining free-agent pass rushers the Panthers could still sign

Top 11 pass rushers who remain unsigned heading into June

For all the Carolina Panthers have done this offseason, they still have a lack of firepower off the edge. And although the likes of Yetur Gross-Matos and Marquis Haynes Sr. might grow into their newer roles over the summer, Brian Burns remains without a certifiable pass-rushing partner in the middle of the defense.

So, if the Panthers are still keeping tabs on that market, here’s what the top of it currently looks like . . .

4 still-available free agent DEs 49ers should target

It’s late in the free agency period, but there are still some players available who can help the 49ers:

The 49ers needed to add some defensive end help in free agency, and they made a pair of FA signings, but that room could still use some help.

They added Clelin Ferrell and Austin Bryant, but they’re both unproven players. They’re projects the 49ers are hoping they can develop into starter-quality defensive linemen. It’s worked in the past, but it’s also a tenuous place to put perhaps the most important defensive position. The team is also banking on second-year DE Drake Jackson breaking out.

It would behoove them to add a proven edge rusher they can rely on should their projects not work out. They cannot go into a year where they’re relying solely on Nick Bosa to generate pressure off the edge. Arik Armstead and newly-added Javon Hargrave will do some of the work pushing the pocket, but edge pressure matters.

There are still a handful of free agent pass rushers who can help the 49ers and perhaps help oversee the development of a couple of the other DEs on the roster.

Here are four free agents San Francisco could target to help bolster their depth at DE:

Chiefs DE Carlos Dunlap to be honored with a parade in hometown

#Chiefs DE Carlos Dunlap is set to be honored with a parade thrown by the Dorchester School District Two in North Charleston, South Carolina. | from @EdEastonJr

The offseason activities continue to be in full swing for members of the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl LVII winning team. The latest player to be honored following the victory is veteran defensive end, Carlos Dunlap.

Dunlap is set to be the guest of honor of the Dorchester School District in his hometown of North Charleston, South Carolina. They’re set to hold a parade to celebrate Dunlap on Thursday, March 23. During the 2022 season, Dunlap appeared in all seventeen regular season games for the Chiefs collecting four sacks, batting down passes, and providing extra veteran leadership for the Super Bowl champions.

The Fort Dorchester High School alum graduated back in 2007. His mother, Dr. Diana-Ross Jackson, will also be honored by Dorchester District Two Superintendent Shane Robbins. She’ll be presented with a challenge coin.

Take a look:

The parade route is scheduled to leave Faith Church in North Charleston at 9 a.m. on Thursday, then head toward River Oaks Middle and Eagle Nest Elementary schools. Fans and neighborhood residents can view the festivities on the sideway along Appian Way, between Dorchester Road and River Oaks Drive. Dunlap is also expected to visit students in the area during his trip home.

Dunlap signed a one-year deal during the start of training camp last season to help fortify the defensive line. The Chiefs could consider bringing back the veteran free agent following the departures of Frank Clark and Khalen Saunders this offseason should he seek to continue his NFL career.

Former Bengals DE Carlos Dunlap gets his Super Bowl win with Chiefs

Los gets his Super Bowl ring.

Former Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Carlos Dunlap won a Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday with his team’s 38-35 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.

Dunlap spent Super Bowl media week talking highly of his time with the Bengals and the organization before going out and recording two quarterback hits in the big game.

It’s reminiscent of last year when the Bengals appeared in the Super Bowl and during the loss, another former great from the last era — Andrew Whitworth — got to hoist the Lombardi Trophy.

Dunlap spent 2010-2020 with the Bengals after being a second-round selection, never winning a playoff game while piling up a franchise-high 82.5 sacks.
