Here were three big observations and takeaways that surfaced from reports during Day 12 of camp:
#Bills 2022 training camp positional battles: Cornerback (via @jdiloro):
The Buffalo Bills cornerback position has always been an interesting area to examine on the rosters since head coach Sean McDermott arrived on the scene.
Tre’Davious White has been a near constant on the field, outside of injuries that have sidelined him. The player opposite White has changed quite a bit.
There were some veteran experiments (Josh Norman, Vontae Davis, EJ Gaines, Phillip Gaines) and developing players (Levi Wallace, Cam Lewis, Dane Jackson) working their way onto the field. Ultimately, Wallace had the most consistent and most positive impact on the field.
Now, Wallace is a Pittsburgh Steeler, leaving via free agency this March.
An additional wrinkle with this position is White’s health. The All-Pro is returning from an ACL tear, and his status is somewhat uncertain entering the season.
As training camp nears, one of the areas to watch is how the staff utilizes their cornerbacks. It may be a battle for players to position themselves in case White misses any time. Or, if somehow Kaiir Elam nears more time to acclimate to the NFL, a reserve will need to step in immediately.
How the roster shakes out behind White and Elam will be the big battle this summer for the cornerbacks.
Jackson epitomized the “next man up” mentality on the roster, starting six games after White’s injury next year. He ended last year with 41 tackles and six passes defensed. Lewis has been a solid depth piece in the secondary.
They will be challenged by sixth-round pick Christian Benford. At the very least, a strong camp will slot Benford ahead of players returning from the practice squad. The Villanova product has good size to challenge for an immediate reserve spot on the roster.
Nick McCloud, Olaijah Griffin, and Tim Harris have spent time on Buffalo’s practice squad last year. A strong camp will at the very least put one of these players in the running for a final roster spot in Buffalo. It could also pique the interest of other teams if they do not find a place with the Bills.
On paper, the group seems fairly straightforward. However, circumstances will make this unit any interesting one to keep an eye on this training camp.

A good day on defense and more, 3 observations from Day 2 of #Bills training camp:
The Buffalo Bills have started their 2022 training camp journey.
Here were three big observations and takeaways that surfaced from reports during Day 2 of camp:
Winners, losers from the #Bills after the 2022 NFL draft:
Each year the NFL draft comes and goes and all the attention is on the players picked. At this year’s event, the Buffalo Bills added eight to their roster.
But these additions have their ripple effects through the roster that was already in place. Let’s run through some of those now.
Here are winners and losers from the Bills roster following the 2022 draft:
Biggest offseason need for the #Bills after their free agent frenzy (via @diloro):
The Buffalo Bills made some massive moves during this free agency period.
The Bills are on the cusp of taking the next step, as the team has fallen short of the Super Bowl during each of their last three postseasons runs.
Specifically, Buffalo have made a concerted effort to upgrade the trenches on both sides of the ball. The Bills signed defensive linemen DaQuan Jones and Tim Settle to help with the interior of the line. Buffalo sent shockwaves throughout the NFL by signing veteran pass rusher Von Miller to a massive deal.
On the offensive line, Buffalo added Pro Bowl offensive guard Rodger Saffold.
The Bills have a strong all-around roster with few holes on it. Even so, the team still has some needs as the team transitions its focus from free agency to the draft.
Buffalo’s biggest need at this moment is at cornerback.
Tre’Davious White is returning from an ACL tear. In general, players return from this injury in about 9-12 months. White’s injury took place on Thanksgiving, which makes White’s return to the team sometime around the start of the season.
In addition, it’s reasonable to give White some time to get back into his All-Pro shape after the injury even when he is back on the field.
White’s primary replacement, Levi Wallace, signed a two-year contract with Pittsburgh this offseason. Wallace, an undrafted free agent who came to Buffalo in 2018, played solidly in place of White.
In four seasons, Wallace recorded 219 total tackles and six interceptions. He spent the majority of three seasons as Buffalo’s CB2 opposite White.
Now, the Bills are left with Dane Jackson and Cam Lewis as possible replacements out wide for Buffalo. The Bills could hope for another Wallace-like ascent from one of these players.
Still, the draft will most likely provide a decent option to fill out the cornerback spot for the Bills.
The team lacks depth at the position, and it would be beneficial for the team to have greater depth with their CB1 returning from a major injury and the remaining wide cornerbacks on the roster lacking experience.
Thus, priority number one needs to be at the cornerback moving forward this offseason for the Bills.

Three seniors tweet their goodbyes.
It occurs every offseason but it doesn’t make it any easier for these student athletes. A trio of LSU Tigers big farewell on social media after the conclusion of the 2021 season.
They played on a team that won a national championship in 2019 and sent their head coach Ed Orgeron out as a winner in the final regular-season game against the Texas A&M Aggies in dramatic fashion. Almost a storybook ending, the only better way would be in a championship season, but Orgeron took his childhood team to the ultimate peak in 2019.
These three players played plenty of meaningful snaps for the Tigers. The first was Cam Lewis, who played five seasons at LSU. In 2019 and 2021 he played in 11 games each season. This past season was his most productive in those five seasons. He tallied 54 tackles, 2.5 TFLs, 1.5 sacks, and one forced fumble.
Punter Avery Atkins was the second player we are highlighting. He served as the holder for junior kicker Cade York. In 2021 he was named the starting punter where he was called upon for 62 punts. Atkins averaged 42.6 yards per punt. During his four-year career, Atkins totaled seven tackles and one fumble recovery.
Finally, we have a starter at offensive guard Ed Ingram. He will work on building up his draft stock before making the jump to the professional league. Ingram played in 45 games over his Tigers career. He was part of the offensive line that protected Joe Burrow in that magical season.
Each player tweeted their own message on Friday.

#Bills activated Cody Ford, Cam Lewis off Reserve/COVID-19 list:
One day after adding four players off of their Reserve/COVID-19 list, the Buffalo Bills have done so with two more pieces on Thursday.
The team announced that offensive lineman Cody Ford and cornerback Cam Lewis were activated from the designation.
Those moves come after offensive lineman Jon Feliciano, defensive lineman AJ Epenesa and wide receivers Cole Beasley and Gabriel Davis were activated on Wednesday.
The first four are more likely players that could immediately be brought back into the starting lineup.
In terms of Lewis, he’s most certainly a depth piece. Depending on what Buffalo (9-6) decides to do with their offensive line, Ford might end up starting in Week 17 against the Atlanta Falcons (7-8).
In addition to Ford and Lewis, the Bills made a few other transactions.
Added back to the practice squad from the COVID list was tight end Quintin Morris.
To make room for him there, running back Antonio Williams was released.

#Bills sign Cam Lewis to 53-man roster:
The Buffalo Bills have made a roster move on Thursday suggesting there might be an injury concern in their secondary.
According to his representatives, cornerback Cam Lewis has signed on the Bills’ 53-man roster. Lewis was previously on Buffalo’s practice squad:
Buffalo Bills are signing CB Cam Lewis to the active roster, per his agent @seanstellato.

This transaction suggests that cornerback Taron Johnson might not be ready to go in Week 10 against the New York Jets (2-6).
On Wednesday, the Bills (5-3) listed Johnson as a limited participant at practice. He sustained a concussion in Week 9’s loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
In adding Lewis, Buffalo did not have to make a corresponding move due to players recently landing on their Reserve/ COVID-19 list.
The latest of those was wide receiver Jake Kumerow.

Stock up, stock down following the #Bills’ win over the #Texans (via @mckennamiddle):
The Buffalo Bills advanced to 3-1 on the season with a dominant 40-0 victory over the inept Houston Texans.
It was a wet and rainy day in Western New York that saw plenty of sloppy play from the away team. Outside of an interception from Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen and a poor red zone possession, the Bills played a flawless game.
With the Kansas City Chiefs on the horizon let’s look back at who played well and who didn’t against the Houston Texans in this week’s stock report:
#Bills elevate Cam Lewis from practice squad which could be a sign for tomorrow’s #Texans meeting:
The Buffalo Bills made a roster move on Saturday, one day before hosting the Houston Texans for their Week 4 matchup.
Cornerback Cam Lewis was elevated from the team’s practice squad, the Bills announced.
Lewis was cut by Buffalo at the end of training camp. However, he was later re-signed to the team’s practice squad.
In calling Lewis up to the 53-man roster, it’s likely a sign that cornerback Taron Johnson will not play against the Texans (1-2). The Bills (2-1) listed Johnson as questionable on their final injury report from Friday.
