Bills’ Brandon Beane gives latest update on Micah Hyde

#Bills’ Brandon Beane gives latest update on Micah Hyde:

The Buffalo Bills are without Jordan Poyer and Micah Hyde on their roster for the first time since 2017 when they arrived.

Poyer is gone. He signed with the Miami Dolphins as a free agent.

Hyde is a different story.

After the end of last season he indicated he would think about retirement. The 33-year-old has had a series of neck injuries in recent years and his contact expired after 2023. He remains a free agent but there’s still a possibility he returns to Buffalo.

But as of now, there’s little to update. General manager Brandon Beane spoke via video conference ahead of the 2024 NFL draft and when asked about Hyde, he did note there is still contact between team and player.

Beane ended up adding that the conversation was more personal rather than business, noting he doesn’t think Hyde has “totally made a 100 percent decision either way.”

Beane’s full update on Hyde can be found in the clip below:

Bills’ Brandon Beane not closing door on Micah Hyde return

#Bills’ Brandon Beane not closing door on Micah Hyde return:

Micah Hyde is a free agent but that’s it.

Jordan Poyer was released by the Buffalo Bills in a salary cap move.

He went on to sign for the Miami Dolphins.

But Hyde is a free agent. He mentioned at locker clean out day he is considering retirement after a series of neck injuries.

According to Bills general manager Brandon Beane, there’s still a chance he returns. Money is playing a part but Beane said at the NFL owners meetings he’s “not closing the door” on Hyde being on the Bills in 2024.

Beane’s full thoughts can be found in the WKVW-TV clip below:

Bills sign Taylor Rapp to three-year extension

#Bills sign Taylor Rapp to three-year extension:

Jordan Poyer’s gone and Micah Hyde is a pending free agent.

But Taylor Rapp is going nowhere.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Rapp has signed a three-year extension with the Buffalo Bills.

Rapp, 26, signed with the Bills last year on a one-year contract. He served as a backup to both Poyer and Hyde and played in certain packages which put all three on the field at once.

In his first season with the Bills, Rapp accounted for 50 total tackles, one tackle for loss, one quarterback hit, half a sack, two pass breakups, an interception, and a fumble recovery. He appeared on 421 defensive snaps and another 191 on special teams.

What’s certainly going to be different now is his role on the defense. With Poyer out, Rapp is likely sliding into his starting spot. Damar Hamlin and Kendall Williamson are the only other safeties under contract with the Bills currently.

Rapp was originally a second-round draft choice of the Los Angeles Rams in the 2019 NFL draft.

Bills Wire will continue to provide free agency updates throughout the 2024 offseason.

10 Bills players who could have bigger roles in 2024

10 #Bills players who could have bigger roles in 2024:

Buffalo Bills GM Brandon Beane made headlines as of late by pointing to where the Bills need to get younger at key positions and hit on their upcoming NFL Draft picks.

He also forecasted a 2024 roster in which younger players may need to step in and step up to play more hands-on roles than the team usually asks of them early on in their professional careers.

Without knowing who this offseason’s new additions might be via the draft and free agency, some players already on the Bills depth chart could prove to be contributors this upcoming season.

Here are 10 Bills players who could have bigger roles in 2024:

Roster decisions the Bills must make for 2024, and advice on each

Roster decisions the Bills must make for 2024, and advice on each:

The Buffalo Bills 2023 season concluded with an 11-6 record, another AFC East crown, a No. 2 playoff seed, and another division-round exit.

GM Brandon Beane is looking to improve and help get the Bills into the Super Bowl in 2024.

To do so. this offseason, he’ll aim to get Buffalo’s roster younger at key positions and to hit on draft picks for more immediate contributors. He’ll also restructure contracts and look at extensions to get under the salary cap.

Buffalo has another long list of players poised to hit free agency and some who could be cap casualties, so they’ll need to make a call on which of those players could factor into the team’s long-term plans to know who to prioritize.

From potential cut candidates to re-signings, to whether to let some players walk as free agents, here are some roster decisions the Bills must make for 2024…

The Buffalo Bills will not re-sign all of their pending free agents this offseason.

It’s true, and for a variety of reasons. The team could want to upgrade. In other cases, whether it might be because of the money or roster size, it doesn’t make much sense for the Bills to keep certain faces around anymore.

Buffalo general manager Brandon Beane and his front office team will be in charge of making those decisions, but we have some ideas for him.

8 Bills players who could have played their last game with the team

8 #Bills players who could have played their last game with the team:

The 2023 NFL season has concluded as the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl 58.

Unfortunately, the same Chiefs ended the Buffalo Bills’ run to the Big Game a few weeks prior. In that outing, Buffalo lost 27-24 to Kansas City.

As it always goes at this time of the year, changes are en route. Multiple players, even featured ones, might have put on the blue and red for the final time in their careers against the Chiefs… or even some that were injured and unable to play could’ve done so even longer ago.

With that, here are eight Bills players who could have played their final game for the team:

As another season of NFL football has come to an end with the Chiefs topping the 49ers in Super Bowl 58, so does another series of contracts that have been signed.

Whether it be grizzled veterans or players seeing the end of their rookie contracts, there are plenty of faces who will no long be under contract with the Bills in March when free agency opens.

The Bills have plenty of time until then to sign players to extensions, but it’s never so cut-and-dry. According to Over The Cap, the team is estimated to be $49 million over the 2024 NFL salary cap.

Moves must be made and general manager Brandon Beane will earn his own salary with the decisions ahead.
