Ohio State football issues availability report for Iowa game, key return

Ohio State football issues availability report for Iowa game, key return #GoBucks

The Ohio State football program has issued the availability report for the game against Iowa, and there are a few notable names that will not be taking part in game No. 7.

With the bye week in the books, we expected the Buckeyes to be close to 100% and obviously, everyone being healthy is impossible in this tough game, but it does look like some key Buckeyes will return to action.

Most Ohio State fans have been eagerly awaiting the return of All-American caliber receiver, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and he has finally been removed from the weekly availability list. Unfortunately starting corner, Cam Brown, will be unavailable.

Darius Slayton, Oshane Ximines were highest-graded Giants in Week 5

Darius Slayton and Oshane Ximines earned the New York Giants’ highest PFF grades in a Week 5 upset of the Green Bay Packers.

The New York Giants rallied on Sunday in London, coming back from two touchdowns down to defeat the Green Bay Packers, 27-22.

With injuries piling up, the team was forced to rely on some unlikely heroes. One of those was wide receiver Darius Slayton, who caught six passes for 79 yards and earned a 89.6 grade from Pro Football Focus, the team’s highest mark of the week.

Just behind Slayton on the offensive side of the ball were left tackle Andrew Thomas (75.3), guard Mark Glowinski (74.5) and running back Saquon Barkley (72.1).

Other notable offensive grades belong to quarterback Daniel Jones (69.8), tight end Daniel Bellinger (67.5) and right tackle Evan Neal (56.4).

The lowest-graded Giants on offense were tight end Tanner Hudson (52.0) and center Jon Feliciano (39.4).

Defensively, edge rusher Oshane Ximines, who recorded the game-sealing sack, led the charge with a grade of 80.6. He was followed by edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux (75.0), linebacker Jaylon Smith (73.3) and nose tackle Dexter Lawrence (70.6).

Other notable defensive grades include safety Julian Love (70.5), cornerback Nick McCloud (61.5) and safety Xavier McKinney (44.7).

The lowest-graded Giants defenders were linebacker Jihad Ward (43.3) and safety Dane Belton (34.1).

The highest-graded special teams player was Cam Brown (91.0).

Ohio State football issues availability report for Wisconsin game, notable names missing

Ohio State football issues availability report for Wisconsin game #GoBucks

The Ohio State football program has issued the availability report for the game against Wisconsin, and there are a few notable names that will not be taking part in game No. 4.

With the game under Toledo under its belt, Ohio State has a few guys that were bumped and bruised against the Rockets, but most of the names on the list just transitioned over from the previous week. The most notable name on this list is star wide receiver, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who is listed as unavailable for today.

All of the reports from this week were that we would see Jaxon Smith-Njigba back in action, but this either means that his injury is more serious than originally thought or they feel confident in not needing him for victory.

Every Penn State player on an NFL opening day roster in 2022

Here is every former Penn State plater on an NFL roster to start the new NFL season in 2022.

The start of a new season in the National Football League is here and there will be a good amount of Penn State flavor throughout the league this season. Penn State will have the eighth most players on an NFL opening day roster this season with 34 players appearing on an NFL team’s 53-man roster to start the season (plus two additional players on injured reserve and another on the physically unable to perform list). In all, Penn State claims 44 players are on NFL rosters to start the year with the inclusion of practice squad players.

That includes nine players who were on the Penn State roster in 2021, including wide receiver [autotag]Jahan Dotson[/autotag], defensive end [autotag]Arnold Ebiketie[/autotag], and safety [autotag]Jaquan Brisker[/autotag]. Dotson is one of four Penn State players on the Washington Commanders, the most of any NFL franchise to start the season.

Former kicker [autotag]Robbie Gould[/autotag] continues to be the elder statesman of the Nittany Lions football family in the NFL. Gould, of the San Francisco 49ers, is entering his 19th season in the NFL.

Here is a look at every Penn State player on either an NFL team’s 53-man roster or practice squad at the start of the 2022 season.

Giants name 10 team captains ahead of 2022 season

The New York Giants have named 10 team captains ahead of the 2022 regular season, including QB Daniel Jones.

The New York Giants voted on Tuesday and they named 10 — yes, 10 — team captains for the 2022 regular season. There will be three each on offense, defense and special teams plus one hybrid co-captain.

“The player voted for captains,” head coach Brian Daboll told reporters. “That was all player votes. There were other players who got votes but [these 10] for the most votes.”

The offensive captains are as follows:

  • QB Daniel Jones
  • RB Saquon Barkley
  • OT Andrew Thomas

On defense, linebacker Blake Martinez did not get the nod. But three others did.

  • S Xavier McKinney
  • DL Dexter Lawrence
  • DL Leonard Williams

The special teams captains are listed below:

  • K Graham Gano
  • LS Casey Kreiter
  • LB Cam Brown

And finally, safety Julian Love was named the 10th team captain, hybrid captain or co-captain — whichever terminology you prefer.

Giants training camp: 9 takeaways from Day 11

The New York Giants wrapped up their final practice before Thursday’s game against the New England Patriots and here are nine takeaways.

The New York Giants took the practice field at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center on Tuesday for the final time before a Thursday night game against the New England Patriots.

Things kicked off with a quick update from head coach Brian Daboll before the team’s assistant coaches were made available to the media. The primary point of discussion was Monday’s bench-clearing brawl, but things quickly moved on to other topics.

Here are nine takeaways from training camp practice No. 11.

See it: Giants players, coaches involved in massive brawl during practice

Shortly after an aggressive run by Saquon Barkley during practice, New York Giants players and coaches erupted into a massive brawl.

New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley lowered his shoulder and hit cornerback Aaron Robinson hard, sending him to the ground.

Barkley’s truck-stick hit was a bit more aggressive and physical than the standard of level play during camp practice — at least to date. And with temperatures again soaring near the triple digits (heat index), it was the spark that ignited the fire.

The subsequent two plays also featured a little back-and-forth and shoving. Then all hell broke lose.

Center Jon Feliciano and linebacker Tae Crowder got into a scuffle. That was followed by offensive coordinator Bobby Johnson shoving linebacker Cam Brown, which resulted in a sucker punch courtesy of Feliciano. Brown quickly threw a few haymakers of his own and before they even hit the ground, benches had cleared.

Players stormed the field and any remaining control was lost.

“This ain’t nothing. This jawn’s small,” linebacker Jihad Ward said after practice. “But I ain’t see nothing.”

Head coach Brian Daboll had the team separate after things eventually calmed down and they quickly returned to practice. No injuries were immediately reported.

Giants training camp: 10 takeaways from Day 10

The New York Giants wrapped up training camp practice No. 10 on Monday and it included a massive fight involving players and coaches.

The New York Giants were back on the practice field at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center on Monday preparing for their first preseason game.

It may be hard to believe, but the last week without football until February has come and gone. The Giants, of course, hope to be playing that long themselves.

In a break from recent tradition, head coach Brian Daboll did not hold a press conference on Monday morning. Instead, he appeared on WFAN and allowed his coordinators — Mike Kafka, Wink Martindale and Thomas McGaughey — to handle the media.

Here are 10 quick takeaways from training camp practice No. 10.

Giants training camp: 8 takeaways from Day 5

The New York Giants returned to practice on Monday — this time with pads on — and here are 8 quick takeaways from the day’s action.

The New York Giants returned to practice on Monday as the second week of training camp got underway. And for the Giants, it will also be the final week without football until next year.

As they traditionally do, things kicked off with head coach Brian Daboll conducting his daily press conference. He put a bow on the team’s first week and then began outlining what lay ahead.

Here are eight quick takeaways from Day 5 of practice.

2022 Giants training camp preview: Linebackers

Wink Martindale will rely heavily on his New York Giants linebackers in 2022.

The New York Giants are entering a new era on defense with incoming coordinator Wink Martindale. The objective is to creatively find ways to get to the quarterback via pressure packages and blitzes.

All three levels of the defense will participate but it will the linebackers that the lead the way this year behind two new unit coaches — John Egorugwu (outside) and Drew Wilkins (inside).

Here’s a quick roundup of the linebackers heading into camp.
