Ohio State football freshman loses black stripe

Ohio State football freshman loses black stripe #GoBucks

Ohio State football welcomed another one to the brotherhood in four-star freshman, Bryce West. The consensus top 100 player in the class of 2024 saw his first defensive action of the season against the Purdue Boilermakers when he earned 12 total snaps on the day with six on defense and six on special teams. He hit the field against Western Michigan, but that was on special teams only.

The Buckeye coaching staff clearly liked what they saw as he was finally able to shed his black stripe this week. The Glenville product is one of 15 players from the 2024 recruiting class to lose their black stripe already. It looks like the gameplan maybe for West to keep his redshirt this season, but anyone who has followed this young man’s recruitment, knows he has elite potential.

Aaron Scott was the other highly recruited cornerback in the class and he earned the right to remove his black stripe back in August.

Watch: Ohio State football commits in action during opening week

Multiple future Buckeyes had standout performances #GoBucks

This past weekend was the beginning of high school football and our first glimpse at Ohio State football commitments back in action.

We already highlighted 2026 wide receiver commit Chris Henry Jr., but that was because he played on Thursday when not many other teams were on the gridiron. It wasnā€™t just Henry Jr. that got some earlier love, 2024 quarterback Air Noland was on the national spotlight and helped lead his team to a huge season opening win.

The majority of the rest of the class got their seasons started on Friday and Saturday and here are some of the top performances from Ohio State commits.

Ohio State 2024 commit wins MVP of Deshaun Watson 7-on-7 tournament

Are you surprised? Iā€™m not #GoBucks

The first Deshaun Watson 7-on-7 tournament was held in Akron and [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] was well represented.

Ohio State cornerback commit, [autotag]Bryce West,[/autotag] was on hand along with priority cornerback target, [autotag]Aaron Scott[/autotag]. The uncommitted prospect was seen wearing Michigan gear, but he wasnā€™t the star of the show.

Buckeye tight end commitment, [autotag]Damarion Witten[/autotag]ā€™s Glenville team didnā€™t end up winning the tournament, Hoban, the host did, but the 6-foot, 2-inch, 215-pound future Ohio State star was named MVP.

This is not at all surprising, especially after watching his junior year highlights. Witten might be the best receiving tight end prospect to enter the program in years and this honor backs that up.

Witten is ranked as the No. 18 tight end and 350th overall prospect according to 247Sports Composite rankings, but if he continues to play like he did on Tuesday, he is going to end up ranked much higher.

WATCH: Ohio State cornerback commit Bryce West working on technique

West is continuing to work hard at his craft. #GoBucks

For some, when the verbal commitment is made, some of the work is done. For [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] pledge [autotag]Bryce West[/autotag], itā€™s clearly not the case.

The 5-foot, 11-inch, 177-pound cornerback isnā€™t resting on the fact that the Buckeyes accepted his commitment. Heā€™s making sure that when he arrives in Columbus, West is ready to compete for a job.

How? Well, West went to Twitter and shared some of his Sunday, working with Andre Cliff and his elite performance training academy. One of the best parts of Westā€™s game is his ability to change direction, or as they say in the defensive back world, flipping your hips.

Check out below the video West shared as he continues to prepare for his senior season and moving on to Columbus.

Ohio State football priority target Aaron Scott Jr. set to announce on July 30

Will Aaron Scott Jr. pick Ohio State? #GoBucks

Friday, July 30 is going to be a big day for Ohio State football one way or another. Aaron Scott Jr. who is the No. 5 cornerback in the country according to 247Sports composite rankings is ready to announce his college decision.

The Buckeyes got big news earlier this week with the news that Bryce West, who is the No. 4 cornerback in the class, had decided to commit to Ohio State. Since then West has been actively recruiting Scott to join him in scarlet and gray.

As of now, Scott has several crystal ball predictions to join the Buckeyes. However, it doesn’t sound like it will be that simple. Several have said that this has been a tough decision and it could be 50/50 at this point between OSU andĀ Michigan.

Scott is a Springfield, Ohio native. His father has made it well known that he is a huge Ohio State fan and would love to see his son become a Buckeye. July 30 happens to be his dad’s birthday. Could this be a birthday gift for dear ole’ dad?

Oregon is also listed as a finalist for Scott’s services, however, we haven’t heard too much about the Ducks. This seems to be a two-horse race between the Buckeyes and TTUN.

If Ohio State can pull Scott in, the Bucks are well on their way to putting together quite a class, especially on the defensive side of the ball. He and West together would be a formidable duo in the OSU secondary for the next several years.

Stay tuned… there could be another big BOOM! on the horizon.

Scoutā€™s view: Ohio Stateā€™s newest commitment, 2024 cornerback Bryce West

The Buckeyes found an elite corner in West #GoBucks

[autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] landed one of their priority in-state targets on Saturday afternoon, when Cleveland Glenville cornerback[autotag]Bryce West[/autotag] Ā made his verbal commitment to the Big Ten power.

It was a massive recruiting win for the Buckeyes, as Westā€™s other finalist, Michigan, is obviously Ohio Stateā€™s biggest rival. Not only will they not have to face the 6-foot and 185 pound corner, theyā€™ll have him blanketing opposing receivers.

The pipeline from Glenville to Columbus remains strong and West is consider one of the best prospects in the country, ranking as the 49th overall player and 4th corner in the country according to the 247Sports composite.

After watching his junior film, itā€™s easy to see why he holds such a high ranking. Find out below what to expect from West when he arrives to Ohio State.

Boom! Cornerback Bryce West commits to Ohio State

This could be the first of several BOOMS this weekend! #GoBucks

We got a big one here, folks. Bryce West who is the No. 4 cornerback in the class and the No. 49 player overall according to 247Sports’ composite has committed to Ohio State.

The highly touted defensive back had narrowed his decision to Michigan and OSU. Even though the Buckeyes had several crystal ball predictions to land West, the Wolverines made a big push late. Ultimately it wasn’t enough. West committed to Ohio State while on his official visit this weekend.

West is an Ohio native hailing from Cleveland Glenville High School. Traditionally, Glenville has been a pipeline to Columbus and will continue to be. The Buckeyes added Arvell Reese last year and are hoping to get a commitment from tight end Damarion Witten, both of whom are from Glenville.

Ohio State is also hosting Aaron Scott, the No. 5 cornerback in the country this weekend. All the experts have Scott crystal balled to OSU as well. This could be an absolutely huge win for the Buckeyes if they land two of the best corners in the land in one weekend.

Michigan football loses out on coveted 2024 Ohio CB

Bummer.

It was a valiant effort, but it wasn’t enough.

The Wolverines long pursued 2024 Cleveland (Ohio) Glenville four-star cornerback Bryce West. He was one of two Ohio-based defensive backs Michigan football was working to wrest away from favorite Ohio State. The Wolverines were even in West’s top two.

The elite corner had eliminated USC and was down to the maize and blue and scarlet and gray. He was reportedly planning an unofficial visit to Ann Arbor last week (though that didn’t come to fruition).

However, while on his official visit to Columbus, West committed in a video that circulated on Friday evening, and he made his commitment to Ohio State official on Saturday.

Now the Wolverines will have to rely on the other four-star Ohio-based corner, Aaron Scott, thought to be an easier pull for the maize and blue than West. Scott, in addition to Cincinnati-based Terhyon Nichols, are likely the top two targets for Michigan football at the cornerback position.

Ohio State commit Jeremiah Smith hints an elite corner should be joining him

A very interesting development ahead of the weekend #GoBucks

They say that the best want to compete with the best and that gives [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] a distinct advantage over competitors regarding secondary recruiting.

If a defensive back wants to go against the best wide receivers in the country, itā€™s hard to argue that Columbus isnā€™t the place for them. Multiple first round NFL draft selections over the past few years and the ones that werenā€™t, i.e. [autotag]Terry McLaurin[/autotag], have blossomed into stars.

Offensive coordinator [autotag]Brian Hartline[/autotag] is churning out elite wide receiver talent and enticing defensive backs to come compete against the best. Buckeye wide receiver commit [autotag]Jeremiah Smith[/autotag] is using that tactic as well, as he retweeted a post regarding Ohio cornerback [autotag]Bryce West[/autotag] making return visit to Michigan after his official.

There were rumors of a visit by West back to Ann Arbor would happen prior to his official to Columbus this weekend, but it turns out that wonā€™t happen and Smith insinuates that West might be joining him.

This visit is big for West and another top in-state cornerback target [autotag]Aaron Scott[/autotag]. If the Buckeyes hit a home run with both of them, we could see the top remaining Ohio targets verbal to Ohio State.
