Five star Ohio State wide receiver commit will wait until February to sign

Not the best news for the Bucks

This was not the news we wanted to hear, as five-star wide receiver [autotag]Brandon Inniss[/autotag] has told 247Sports that he will likely wait until February to sign with a school. This decision by Inniss is two-fold, he wants to be coached by [autotag]Brian Hartline[/autotag], who has tweeted he isn’t going anywhere, and [autotag]Deion Sanders[/autotag] moved to [autotag]Colorado[/autotag].

The Florida receiver told Andrew Ivins that he’s “going to wait until February to sign, just so I can let everything play out and make sure 100 percent where he (Hartline) will be.” Inniss did go and say that he could sign in the early period if Hartline is still in Columbus but there was another factor, Sanders.

The current Jackson State head coach is reportedly taking the open position at Colorado and has already been recruiting Inniss to join him. Coach Prime has told Inniss “that he wanted me to join him,” if he were to leave JSU. Inniss wants to play for a Power Five school so Sanders’ current position at Jackson State isn’t an option but the Buffs would be.

Now, Inniss did take to Twitter to calm Ohio State fans’ and coaches’ fears, but this is big-time college football recruiting, and things change often until there’s a signature on that piece of paper.

Ivins also notes that a few other schools are still actively recruiting Inniss, such as Miami and Alabama, but it doesn’t seem like either of those schools is really in contention for Inniss’ signature.

This is a situation to monitor, even if the Buckeyes are in a very good position with receivers in the 2023 class as [autotag]Carnell Tate[/autotag], [autotag]Noah Rogers[/autotag], and [autotag]Bryson Rodgers[/autotag] also in the fold. [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] and Hartline have some work to do to keep Inniss in the class even though he did Tweet out earlier that he’s still locked in.

Brian Hartline’s message to Ohio State fans should calm their worries

Phew! #GoBucks

As many know, Ohio State has one of the best up-and-coming coaches in [autotag]Brian Hartline[/autotag]. The former Buckeye and current wide receivers coach is one of the best recruiters in the country among position coaches. His name was bound to come up as other teams look to fill some of their open positions, but Hartline went to Twitter on Thursday afternoon to quell rumors.

After being linked to an open head coaching position at Cincinnati, which was created when another former Buckeye, [autotag]Luke Fickell[/autotag], took the Wisconsin position, many wondered if Hartline was at the top of their list. It seems that is not the case.

There is always the potential of someone changing their mind, but it looks like Hartline doesn’t intend to leave Columbus this offseason. A huge sigh of relief has just come from close to the office of [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag].

Rutgers football: The way too early ranking of offensive coordinator candidates

Ranking some of the candidates for the open offensive coordinator position at Rutgers.

With six weeks left in the season, Rutgers football is not only trying to turn around a season that now sees them having lost their last six games. They also are trying to integrate a new offensive coordinator into the mix.

The good news for Rutgers is that the elevation of [autotag]Nunzio Campanile[/autotag] from tight ends coach to interim offensive coordinator should be relatively seamless. After all, Campanile is the longest-tenured assistant on the Rutgers staff and even served as interim head coach in 2019.

But against this backdrop, the Scarlet Knights still need to figure out who is going to be their offensive coordinator moving forward. Campanile, as the interim in that position, would have the inside track.

But head coach [autotag]Greg Schiano[/autotag] needs to sort this out while pushing forward on the season. There are some interesting candidates out there and available for Rutgers.

Who are the candidates for the offensive coordinator role? We got a start on some possible names here. But looking at things from a realistic candidate perspective (Dan Mullen isn’t coming here, for instance) and viability plus any possible connections to Rutgers or the current staff, here is a ranking of 10 candidates for the position.

[lawrence-related id=19745]

Yes, there is a name or two on here that could, would and should make long-term Rutgers fans shake their heads. But isn’t that part of the fun?

Check out our rankings of some of the top offensive coordinator candidates for the open Rutgers football position!

The Offensive Coordinator Big Board: who could Rutgers football be looking at?

The hot board for Rutgers football’s offensive coordinator position.

OK, let’s get this out of the way. Dan Mullen isn’t coming here. And in all likelihood, Rutgers football isn’t hiring away a current Power Five offensive coordinator.

But this is an appealing job that could offer a nice career boost to the right candidate. And if the next offensive coordinator can get the unit functioning, it could be a huge step forward in someone’s career.

So there won’t be a shortage of interested candidates.

Now consider that head coach Greg Schiano has often valued ties and connections with many (not all, but many) of his hires. So coaches he has worked with or coached with before will likely get a long look. And no one will get a longer look then Nunzio Campanile, installed as the interim offensive coordinator this Sunday.

Let’s take a look at what names make sense – along with a few reaches – to be the next offensive coordinator at Rutgers.

Ohio State football Brian Hartline promoted to passing game coordinator

Well deserved for Hartline. #GoBucks

Name an assistant coach in college football that’s been better at his position group than Ohio State wide receivers coach Brian Hartline. We’ll wait.

Not only has Hartline recruiting better than almost everyone out there in the college game, he’s taken that talent and developed it into some of the best wide receivers in the game. Talent you are going to see go during the first day of NFL drafts coming up.

And now, for his efforts, Hartline has been promoted to passing game coordinator by Ryan Day, a title that will give him even more duties than solely working with the wide receivers.

Harline joined Ohio State as a full-time staff member in 2018 after one season as an offensive analyst. He was one of OSU’s best receivers for Ohio State from 2005-08, graduated in 2009, and spent seven seasons in the National Football League, six of them with the Miami Dolphins. Overall, he played in 104 NFL games with 73 starts and produced 344 career receptions for 4,766 yards and 14 touchdowns.

“Brian is a dedicated Ohio State Buckeye,” Day said in a statement. “He is the top wide receiver’s coach in college football and he has continued to develop as an offensive coach to the point where we want him to have more of an impact on our offensive game plan. His taking over as passing game coordinator will allow for this.”

This is a great move by Ohio State to keep one of the hottest, rising coaching stars in the college on the banks of the Olentangy. It’s also well deserved.

WATCH: Ryan Day, Brian Hartline preview Nebraska

Watch what Ryan Day and Brian Hartline said in the lead-up to the Nebraska game. #GoBucks

The Ohio State football team takes the next step on its 2021 season journey when it gets on the plane to take a trip to Nebraska this weekend. Game time is set for Noon, with Fox having the call.

Despite what the Cornhuskers’ record might suggest, they are a dangerous team, having not lost a game by more than eight points against all levels of competition this season. The game is in Lincoln and the Buckeyes will need to stay focused, engaged, and execute at a high level both in preparation and during the game.

OSU head coach Ryan Day knows this well. As he does every Tuesday during the season, Day met with the local media to talk about the game with Penn State and to preview Nebraska. If you’re interested in what the Day said leading up to Saturday, we have the full video here thanks to the folks at Ohio State. As an added bonus, wide receivers coach Brian Hartline was also made available to answer questions and talk about his unit.

Watch below and hear Day discuss the challenges Ohio State faced in executing on the offensive end against Penn State, the play of the defense, how impressed he is with Nebraska on film, and more.

Stay with us as we’ll have more preview pieces the rest of the week as we lead into this weekend.

Brian Hartline moves into top spot in recruiter rankings

Is there a better recruiter in college football right now than Brian Hartline?

Ohio State’s Brian Hartline has been worth his weight in gold since being named wide receiver coach in 2019. Since that time, the former Buckeye star has pulled one of the greatest three-year hauls in college football history. Twice he’s nabbed the No. 1 rated receiver in the class and could be a third if Caleb Burton comes back to form after an injury-plagued junior year.

After getting four of the top 21 receivers in the 2022 class to commit to OSU, Hartline is again being recognized for his outstanding work. 247Sports not only ranks recruits but also ranks recruiters. And at the top of the list currently is none other than wide receiver whisperer himself.

This is not Hartline’s first experience in the top spot of recruiting rankings. He finished first in 2020 after signing No. 1 ranked receiver Julian Flemming along with Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Gee Scott Jr. who were also the number five and ten rated receivers in the country according to 247Sports composite rankings. That class also included Mookie Cooper who was ranked the No. 16 receiver in the class but has since transferred to Missouri.

Hartline has put together another impressive receiving class for 2022. Assuming all stay committed and sign on the dotted line, the Ohio State receivers coach could be in line for his second National Recruiter of the Year award.

This would be well-deserved recognition for the man who has built “Zone 6” into a household name.

Could Ohio State add another top wide receiver to the 2022 class?

Tracking another blue-chip receiver. Could he add to the already embarrassment of riches at the position for OSU?

The Ohio State football team already has an embarrassment of riches at the wide receiver position. With arguably the best receiving unit in the nation on campus, Brian Hartline has verbals from Caleb Burton, Kaleb Brown, and Kyion Grayes (247 Sports No. 3, No. 5, and No. 21 ranked receivers) in the class of 2022.

But that isn’t stopping the Buckeyes from trying to add more and the next name on the list is Kojo Antwi. Antwi is a Georgia native and is ranked as the No. 16 receiver in the class according to 247 Sports composite rankings. The 6-foot, 1-inch receiver made his way to Columbus for an official visit on June 18 and had a positive experience.

After taking his official visits this summer, Antwi is ready to make a decision and will announce his choice on July 5. It is widely believed to be a two-horse race between Ohio State and Georgia.

My gut tells me that Antwi stays home and goes to Athens, but never underestimate Brian Hartline’s draw. He’s been able to work his magic before.

We’ll find out on July 5 if the OSU wide receiver coach can pull off another heist and steal yet another top-rated receiver.

Ohio State still in the hunt for top 2022 receiver from Georgia

Top 100 wide receiver 2022 prospect Kojo Antwi out of Georgia has scheduled a visit to see Ohio State coming up.

Brian Hartline and the Ohio State Buckeyes have been putting in work recruiting some of the best receiving talent in the country. Hartline has fast become known for his ability to get the top pass catchers to bring their talents to Columbus.

The Buckeyes have already received verbal commitments from the nation’s No. 1 receiver in five-star Caleb Burton and another in four-star Kiyon Graves. But the OSU wide receiver coach is hoping to add one more big name to the class.

Kojo Antwi is the No. 1 receiver out of the talent-rich state of Georgia and the No. 8 ranked wideout in the country according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. Antwi has offers from all the big boys and trimmed his list to eight in late December. Included on his list were Ohio State, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Oregon, Texas A&M, South Carolina, and Southern Cal.

The highly sought-after receiver is in the process of scheduling campus visits once the NCAA ends the dead period and has scheduled a date to visit Ohio State. Antwi will head north to Columbus on the weekend of June 18-20 to check things out.

This would be yet another huge commitment if Hartline can continue to work his magic to bring another big-time receiver to the scarlet and gray. The Buckeye’s 2022 class currently sits at No. 1 in the nation.
