Highlights from Ohio State football’s win over Nebraska

Recapping some of the highlights of Ohio State’s win over Nebraska on Thursday. #GoBucks

The Ohio State football team got a bit of a scare but was able to do what it needed to at the end of the game against Nebraska on Saturday afternoon. There weren’t as many points scored as what we’ve got accustomed to with this program as of late, but there were still some key moments on defense, special teams, and yes — even offensively — in the lowest-scoring contest we’ve seen the Buckeyes in this season.

Maybe you watched the game, maybe you didn’t. Perhaps you did watch all the action and just want to re-live some of the moments that got Ohio State another victory on this up and down journey of 2021.

We’ve grabbed some of the best highlights from the 26-17 win over the Cornhuskers so that you can get up to speed or simply cruise with less stress this time.

It clearly wasn’t a beauty pageant for the Ohio State football team on Saturday in Lincoln, but when the calendar flips to November, sometimes you have to win ugly in the Big Ten. That’s exactly what the Buckeyes did by finding a way to outlast the Nebraska Cornhuskers 26-17 Saturday afternoon.

It was an interesting and somewhat curious game where OSU got outgained on the ground and threw the ball 54 times. Woody Hayes just rolled his eyes in Buckeye heaven.

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day met with the media as he does after every game to discuss what he felt about his team’s performance, and to answer some questions from the inquiring minds of the Buckeye beat media.

Here is some of the highlights from what Day said after the close shave against Nebraska.

WATCH: What Nebraska head coach Scott Frost and players said about Ohio State postgame

Hear what Nebraska head coach Scott Frost said about Ohio State after the game. He called the Buckeyes “elite” and had more praise. #GoBucks

Nebraska welcomed Ohio State to Memorial Stadium for a Big Ten football contest and it more or less went how all of the Cornhuskers’ previous games went. Big Red gave the Buckeyes all they could handle, but Ohio State made just a few more plays than Nebraska did to make the trip back to Columbus a pleasant one with a 26-17 win.

After the game, Nebraska head coach Scott Frost met with the media in Lincoln and discussed what he saw from his team, and what he thought of Ohio State. Frost isn’t one for moral victories but was proud of his team’s effort and called the Buckeyes “elite.”

If you didn’t get to catch up with what Frost said, watch the below from Nebraska’s YouTube Channel and listen to the Nebraska head discuss how close his team is, how difficult it was to guard the Ohio State receivers, the chances OSU has at going to the College Football Playoff, and more.

Ohio State will now turn its attention to the next challenge on the schedule, a home game against Purdue next weekend.

Ohio State beats Nebraska in a close contest. Five things we think we learned.

It was a tight one, and it wasn’t pretty, but Ohio State found a way to survive against Nebraska. Here are 5 things we think we learned.

Well, there’s no way around it. Ohio State went to Lincoln, Nebraska, and struggled mightily to look like a College Football Playoff team, narrowly surviving by putting the game out of reach thanks to a Noah Ruggles field goal late in the fourth quarter.

Now, we must understand that Nebraska is much better than that 3-6 record, losing every game by no more than eight points. At the end of the day, there will be questions, but at least the Buckeyes walked away with a victory and are still alive for some special things.

After each game, we reflect back on what we just witnessed and give you five takeaways from what we saw. Here are the five things we think we learned with Ohio State’s 26-17 win over the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

WATCH: Ohio State WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba take short pass 75-yards

The Ohio State Buckeyes are in a real battle with the Nebraska Cornhuskers, but Jaxon Smith-Njigba is doing his part. He is currently Ohio State’s leading receiver with seven receptions for 140 yards, which includes a massive 75-yard touchdown reception.

Smith-Njigba was on the receiving end of a solid C.J. Stroud pass, and the OSU quarterback is also having a solid game, completing 19 of 30 passes for 219 yards, two touchdowns, and just one ugly interception so far. It looks like Smith-Njigba is filling the shoes of Garrett Wilson fairly well, and hopefully, Stroud and Smith-Njigba can keep this connection going.

Take a look at the explosive play between Stroud and Smith-Njigba below.

Ohio State vs. Nebraska three and out halftime review

We have a tight one in Lincoln. Here are three takeaways at the half of Ohio State vs. Nebraska. #GoBucks

The Ohio State Buckeyes are struggling more than most expected against the Nebraska Cornhuskers, but if the last few drives before the half are any indication, we’re hoping Ohio State is about to separate themselves permanently. As we precited, Nebraska has been tough as a two-dollar steak on defense, but no matter how effectively they play, the inconsistency in putting the ball into the end zone could be the Cornhuskers’ downfall.

Even with the momentum moving into the Buckeyes’ corner, there is still not a whole lot of positives to take away as the offense has struggled to find its groove, and the defense has suffered an injury that may have serious ramifications. It also gave up an uncharacteristic explosive play for a touchdown.

The following are three takeaways from the first half.

WATCH: Ohio State QB C.J. Stroud hits Chris Olave for three yard touchdown pitch and catch vs. Nebraska

Watch C.J. Stroud hit Chris Olave for Ohio State’s first TD of the game vs. Nebraska.

Things have not come easily for Ohio State so far against Nebraska on the road in Lincoln. The defense is playing well, but the offense has struggled just a little bit against a ‘Husker team that seems to be motivated, physical, and focused.

That all changed in the second quarter though when Ohio State methodically moved the ball down the field after a poor punt by Nebraska’s punter. The Buckeyes got inside the five-yard line after six plays, then quarterback C.J. Stroud rolled out and hit receiver Chris Olave for a 3-yard strike to extend OSU’s lead to 10-0.

Watch the action below as Olave pulls to within just two touchdowns of the all-time career record for the Buckeyes.

Nobody should be surprised that this game has been a donnybrook so far. Nebraska has played every team close, and Ohio State will have to continue to be tough and come out the other side of this one.

Five bold predictions for Ohio State vs. Nebraska

As we do before every Ohio State football game, we give you five bold predictions for the Buckeyes vs. Cornhuskers.

It’s on to the next one for the Ohio State football team. Next up is a journey to Lincoln, Nebraska to take on a Cornhuskers team that has been in close game after close game but has been unable to finish the deal more often than not.

Each week, we give you five bold predictions for the upcoming game. We want to reiterate that these are bold predictions and not your run of the mill easy to attain predictions. We’re not going boilerplate and calling for TreVeyon Henderson to get over 100 yards rushing, or C.J. Stroud to throw for over 250 yards. No, we stretch things for things that seem a wee bit out of reach but still possible.

Now that I have that out of the way so I don’t get opposing fans blowing up my DMs again (it’s all for fun Husker fans), we can get on with it.

Here are five spicy, bold, and somewhat far-out-there predictions for Ohio State vs. Nebraska Saturday.

How to watch, stream, listen to Ohio State vs. Nebraska

Everything you need to know to listen and watch Ohio State football as they travel to Lincoln to take on the Cornhuskers.

Ohio State took care of Penn State in a hard-fought battle under the lights in Ohio Stadium last Saturday. Now they travel to Lincoln to face 3-6 Nebraska.

The Cornhuskers are probably a little better than what their record shows losing to both Michigan and Michigan State by a mere three points each. Their largest margin of defeat was all the way back in the first game of the season, falling to Illinois by just eight points.

Will Ohio State bring its A-game for an early start or will there be a hangover after dispatching the Nittany Lions on national television? At this point in the season, you can bet the Buckeyes will be getting everyone’s best shot.
