Oregon ‘major contender’ for 4-star Mater Dei OT Brandon Baker

However, according to Adam Gorney at Rivals, the Ducks are a major contender among the schools that are involved.

Mater Dei (Calif.) four-star offensive tackle Brandon Baker is expected to announce his college commitment in late September or early October. Before he makes his decision, he’ll be visiting Nebraska. Texas, Ohio and Florida State are also among the mix.

However, according to Adam Gorney at Rivals, Oregon is a major contender among the schools that are involved.

“The top-ranked offensive tackle nationally could be slowing things down – but not by much. The Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei standout wants to visit Nebraska in mid-September and then he should be ready to make his commitment by the end of the month or early October. There have been rumors that Texas is now the team to beat and could have a big edge but Oregon is definitely a major contender here as well and could still land him with Ohio State, Florida State and Tennessee also involved.”

Baker is the No. 1 ranked offensive tackle, the second-best player overall in California and No. 21 nationally in the class of 2024 going by the 247Sports composite.

According to On3’s prediction model, Oregon is the favorite for Baker’s commitment at 52.5%, followed by Texas (23.8%) and Ohio State (19.4%).

For now, Oregon’s class of 2024 ranks No. 12 in the country.

The No. 1 offensive tackle in the class of 2024 has scheduled his official visit to Nebraska. Brandon Baker will be at the Cornhusker’s home opener on September 16 against Northern Illinois.

Baker is a 5-star recruit from Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California. He is currently ranked as one of the players in California and the No. 1 overall offensive lineman in the class of 2024.

The prospect had previously stated that if he visited Nebraska in the fall, he would push his commitment announcement to December. He’s previously talked glowingly about the support Nebraska fans have for their team.

“I really love the atmosphere, just the energy the Nebraska program brings.”

The prospect has already taken three official visits. He visited Ohio State, Texas, and Georgia in the month of June.

Texas Football: 2024 recruiting class can still win its “big three”

Texas’ three most important targets are still out there to win over in the next few months.

Texas recruiting has cooled in recent days. We’ve seen cornerbacks Selman Bridges and Corian Gipson commit elsewhere and effectively thwart the Longhorns’ dream cornerback class. Even so, there are several big time targets the team can win out for over the next few months.

There are three essential recruits needed for the 2024 class in my estimation. Texas needs to win them all. Edge rusher Colin Simmons, cornerback Kobe Black and offensive tackle Brandon Baker are those three.

If Texas wins out on the above three players, the class is an unmitigated success. And it really wouldn’t matter who else they fail to win.

Simmons, Baker and Black play at the three premium positions you can’t always acquire through the portal. That’s not the case at other positions.

Texas found a big time quarterback and several key receivers through the portal. Quinn Ewers (Ohio State) and his pass catchers Xavier Worthy (Michigan), Isaiah Neyor (Wyoming) and AD Mitchell (Georgia) were all transfers. But to get elite edges, tackles and cornerbacks you have to recruit high school talent.

There’s more to add in this recruiting class. How it finishes in these three recruitments could determine how we view the 2024 class.

Top tackle considering Lincoln visit

One of the top recruits in the class of 2024 is planning an official visit to Nebraska before making a final decision.

One of the top recruits in the class of 2024 is planning an official visit to Nebraska before making a final decision. Brandon Baker is a 5-star offensive tackle for Mater Dei High School out of Santa Ana, California.

Baker is currently ranked as one of the players in California and the No. 1 overall offensive lineman in the class of 2024. Adam Gorney, a National Recruiting Director for Rivals, reports that Baker is working on scheduling an official visit to Nebraska in the fall, and if that visit happens then Baker will push his announcement to December.

The prospect has already taken three official visits. He visited Ohio State, Texas, and Georgia in the month of June.

California 5-star Ohio State offensive tackle target could visit another Big Ten school

This could get interesting #GoBucks

[autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] is looking to finish its 2024 offensive line class with one target in particular, California offensive tackle [autotag]Brandon Baker[/autotag].

The 6-foot, 5-inch, 285-pound player took an official visit to Columbus in early June, and, after multiple visits, many thought Baker would make a summer commitment.

That will not be the case for the nation’s top-rated tackle, per the 247Sports composite. In a report by Greg Biggins of 247Sports, Baker could be taking more official visits, with one school on his mind, Nebraska. The five-star could visit Lincoln in mid-September for a game.

There is a silver lining, however. Biggins was told that “Ohio State was my favorite” by Baker and that he’s very close to Buckeye offensive line coach [autotag]Justin Frye[/autotag]. Great news for the Buckeyes even if Baker does want to visit other schools.

Texas inches closer to a commitment from No. 1 OT Brandon Baker

Texas seems like a good match for Mater Dei (CA) offensive tackle Brandon Baker.

Texas has arguably the most talented offensive tackle in the nation on its roster, Kelvin Banks. The team also has its sights on his heir apparent.

Mater Dei (California) offensive tackle Brandon Baker is a realistic get for the Longhorns. According to Inside Texas, offensive line coach Kyle Flood and company make a lot of sense for the top offensive tackle in the country.

There are more than enough serviceable linemen on the roster to man the left tackle position when Kelvin Banks departs. Presumably Cam Williams or Neto Umeozulu could move to tackle after Banks’ junior season. Nevertheless, Texas would be wise to look further than 2025, and Baker would figure to be a good replacement at the position.

That Flood has put the Longhorns in position to go from No. 1-ranked tackle to No. 1-ranked tackle is a testament to what he brings to the Forty Acres. The famine in offensive line recruiting under previous head coach Tom Herman is well documented. Texas is far removed from that drought.

The Longhorns look to close on the indispensable recruit over the next few months.

Ducks pick up prediction to land 5-star OT following visit to Georgia Bulldogs

Ducks pick up prediction to land 5-star OT following visit to Georgia Bulldogs

The Oregon Ducks have seemingly been in a good position to land 5-star OT Brandon Baker — the No. 1 rated offensive tackle in the 2024 class, and No. 23 player overall — for a while now. When Adrian Klemm was leading the charge in his recruitment last year, Baker was very vocal about his love for the Ducks, and that hasn’t changed since A’lique Terry took over as the OL coach in Eugene.

A month ago, On3’s Chad Simmons made a big-time prediction, showing that he felt with 60% confidence that Baker would end up committing to Oregon. On Sunday night, On3’s Josh Newberg made a similar prediction, showing with 65% confidence that he thought Baker would be a Duck.

What’s interesting about the timing of this is that Baker just came off of an official visit to the Georgia Bulldogs over the weekend, where he was able to meet with Kirby Smart and see all that the two-time defending champions had to offer.

For that visit to take place and predictions still come in for him to choose Oregon is rather significant, in my opinion.

We will see how the rest of Baker’s recruitment goes, and when he decides to make a decision, but Duck fans should be feeling confident about where things stand at the moment.

Brandon Baker’s Recruiting Profile

2024 five-star OT Brandon Baker shares his thoughts about Texas

Brandon Baker appears to be a big Kyle Flood fan.

The nation’s top offensive tackle prospect has the Texas Longhorns on his mind. After visiting Austin over the weekend, Brandon Baker left with a positive outlook on who he would be playing for should he choose the Longhorns.

It became evident the Mater Dei (California) player has great respect for Texas offensive line coach Kyle Flood. Baker said the following about Flood and what the Longhorns are building.

“When I talk to Coach (Kyle) Flood, it means something. He’s a really good coach and he’s building a really strong offensive line. They’re putting something special together and he wants me to be a part of that.”

Based on the above quote, Baker appears coachable. Whatever Flood has shared with the elite talent has resonated with the young player.

It’s encouraging to Texas faithful that the Longhorns have dramatically improved their offensive line. More encouraging is that a player of Baker’s caliber is taking notice of the improvement. Now Kyle Flood will look to turn positive program perception into more elite commitments along the offensive line.

LOOK: Steve Sarkisian poses with five-star OT target Brandon Baker

The Longhorns are pulling out all the stops for their official visitors

Despite what a former Texas quarterback said about the Longhorns vehicle and NIL situation, Texas proved this past weekend that they do have quite a few nice rides from a variety of NIL deals.

If you don’t remember the preseason drama from a year ago, let me give you a quick refresher. Prior to this past season, Casey Thompson announced his transfer to Nebraska where in an interview he slighted his former program.

In Barstool’s “Bussin with the Boys” podcast, Thompson claimed that he and just two other players on the football team had received cars while at Texas. At Nebraska, he claimed they had nearly 20 guys on the team with a car. He also implied that across all sports at Nebraska the NIL deals were far better than those at Texas.

While Texas never really verbally addressed Thompson’s claims, they have been seen as “flexing” when it comes to recruiting visits. Steve Sarkisian’s staff has a variety of high-end cards on campus for a big recruiting weekend.

While the Longhorns only hold four commitments for their class of 2024, there has been very positive reports in where they stand with five-star offensive lineman Brandon Baker and a slew of other recruits. One analyst at 247Sports even inserted 10 crystal ball predictions.

As for how Texas is doing in the NIL realm, according to On3’s NIL top-100 rankings, the Longhorns have five football players and six athletes total that rank among those with the top NIL value. If the Longhorns are able to live up the preseason exceptions that have been accumulating over the past few weeks, that number likely will only continue to rise.
