Bobby Brown III having a big impact for Rams and Sean McVay is thrilled

Sean McVay gave a honest and in-depth evaluation of fourth-year NT Bobby Brown III during Monday’s press conference.

On Monday, Rams head coach Sean McVay was asked to evaluate Bobby Brown III’s performance this season. Brown has been a wall for the Rams this season, slowly becoming the team’s premier run defender.

McVay spoke highly of Brown, praising his play on early downs when teams are primarily running the ball.

“I think Bobby’s done a great job,” he said. “I think after the first couple weeks, we really challenged our front to step up, especially in some of those early down situations. I think Bobby has been at the forefront of a lot of the early down efficiency that’s earned us the opportunity to be aggressive in some of those known pass situations, whether that be second downs or some of the third downs. Bobby was great yesterday. I thought he knocked out the run in early downs, played with great hands and was able to show some great range down the line of scrimmage.”

Brown came through for the Rams on Sunday, making multiple tackles while dominating the line of scrimmage. This was made most evident when Brown took down Seahawks RB Kenneth Walker on fourth down in overtime, giving the Rams the ball with an opportunity to win with a score. Demarcus Robinson hauled in the game-winning touchdown four plays later.

“That play in particular was a huge play by him and for Omar [Speights] to be able to have that kind of violence on his arrival,” McVay continued. “Those two guys, that’s a game-winning play right there. When you really look at that sequence leading up to it, the tackle by Kamren Kinchens to be able to get it to a third down-and-1 and then what Jared Verse makes on the third-and-1 and what those two guys you just mentioned, in addition to the rest of the front on fourth-and-1, what a cool example of guys making them snap it one more time and complementary football. Then four plays later, Demarcus Robinson is making a catch in the end zone and the Rams are going crazy so that was pretty cool. Bobby’s done great.”

Brown is in the last year of his rookie contract, but he could be playing his way into an extension next offseason.

Rams injury report: 2 players ruled out, 3 questionable vs. 49ers

Sean McVay shared injury updates ahead of Sunday’s game, already ruling out two players and listing three as questionable

(This story was updated to add new information.)

The Los Angeles Rams’ injury issues haven’t just been on offense and defense. They’ve now bled into the special teams unit.

Sean McVay said Friday before practice that kicker Joshua Karty is one of three players listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the 49ers. Karty will try to practice today after sitting out the first two days of work, and that will determine whether he’s able to play on Sunday.

If not, it’ll be Tanner Brown kicking for the Rams this weekend. He was recently signed to the practice squad as a precaution with Karty battling a groin injury.

Additionally, Cobie Durant and Bobby Brown III are both considered questionable, per McVay. Cooper Kupp has been ruled out, as expected, and Davis Allen is also out for the second straight week with a back injury.

The good news is Kevin Dotson appears to be off the injury report and good to go despite a lingering foot injury.

The Rams and 49ers will both release their final injury reports of the week after practice on Friday, at which point this post will be updated to reflect official designations for this weekend’s game.

Update: The full injury report is below, which has updated statuses for 49ers players.

Torry Holt doesn’t expect Rams defense to fall off without Aaron Donald

Torry Holt shared his thoughts on the Rams defense with Aaron Donald gone, pointing to a handful of players who need to step up

When you lose one of the greatest defensive players in NFL history, there’s expected to be at least some drop-off on that side of the ball. The Los Angeles Rams will soon experience life without Aaron Donald for the first time since 2013 and it’s understandable to think the defense won’t be as dominant as it was in recent years.

Rams legend Torry Holt doesn’t expect the Rams defense to suddenly fall off a cliff, though. He believes they have the players in place to maintain a high level of play, assuming their young defenders step up and continue to get better.

“I think the expectations are the same,” Holt said on “The Herd” Friday. “I think that’s Sean McVay’s message. Yes, they have a new coordinator in (Chris) Shula, but Sean McVay has to manage so many things, players being plucked but also coaches being plucked year in and year out, but they continue to do a really good job of drafting and developing players. Kobie Turner’s gotta be good – gotta be better. He had a heck of a rookie season. He’s gotta be better. (Bobby) Brown’s gotta be better. They got two rookies from Florida State, (Braden) Fiske, as well as Jared Verse, who has to step up.”

Holt is well aware that Donald is irreplaceable. The Rams can’t simply sign one player or draft someone to take his place seamlessly. However, he believes as a group, the Rams have the pieces to overcome his departure.

“Now, no one replaces Aaron Donald,” Holt said. “Collectively, though, these guys have to play at a very high level. What I love about this Rams young front: They drafted these guys that they’re playing. Again, showing confidence that they have in their players and then their players deliver.”

If Turner continues to improve, Byron Young steps up and gets better as a pass rusher and the two rookies, Fiske and Verse, both become Day 1 starters, the Rams will be in good shape. There will probably be some early growing pains in the post-Donald era, but they sunk a lot of assets into the defensive front in the last two years and the hope is that it pays off in 2024.

Watch: Comedian tries to pretend he plays for the Rams, fails miserably

Comedian Trevor Wallace tried to pretend he plays for the Rams, but his lie to a fan in the grocery store went hilariously wrong

Trevor Wallace is a comedian who may not be the most recognizable figure while out in public, particularly with an older generation. So when he was in a grocery store wearing a Los Angeles Rams hat, another gentleman asked if he played for the team, claiming he looked familiar.

Wallace tried to play it off as if he did, telling the guy he plays for the Rams. However, things went sideways when the fan asked what number he wears. Wallace tried to think on his feet and blurted out the number 95, believing he might be able to pass as a wide receiver.

A knowledgeable Rams fan would know 95 is Bobby Brown III’s number, and Brown looks nothing like Wallace.

Needless to say, the fan is going to quickly learn he didn’t actually meet Bobby Brown when he looks up his jersey number.

Even Brown found the video hilarious.

If Wallace said he was Ben Skowronek, he might’ve gotten away with it. But there’s no chance he knew what jersey number Benny Skow wears.

Whether this is just a skit or not, it’s pretty darn funny.

Bobby Brown III ‘should be OK’ after hyperextending knee vs. Giants

Bobby Brown III exited Sunday’s game with a knee injury but it wasn’t as severe as the Rams expected, which is good news

Bobby Brown III has been a key defender in the middle of the Rams’ defense this season, particularly when it comes to stopping the run. He missed time with an MCL injury earlier this year and on Sunday against the Giants, he exited with a knee injury and did not return.

Sean McVay shared an update on the Rams’ starting nose tackle Monday, saying that Brown “should be OK” after hyperextending his knee. The injury was much less severe than it looked and he should be able good to go this week.

“We’re fortunate that he just hyperextended his knee but he should be OK,” McVay said. “We were fearful that it might’ve been something worse. He might be limited in practice but we expect him to be good to go this week.”

In 12 games this season, Brown has 27 tackles, a half-sack, three tackles for a loss and one quarterback hit. He’s not an impactful pass rusher, which few nose tackles are, but he’s the Rams’ biggest defensive lineman and makes a lot of plays against the run.

Best Photos: Top Aggie performances from Week 13 of the NFL season

Texas A&M was well represented in Week 13 of the NFL, and we have some of the best photos for you to check out

We are now past the halfway point of the regular schedule, and playoff pictures are starting to take shape. As we look forward to the rest of the games this week, I’d like to take some time to recognize a few top week 13 performances from Aggies in the NFL.

All-Pro wide receiver Mike Evans has extended this record of the most consecutive 1,000-yard receiving to 10. He went off on the Carolina Panthers in the 21-18 win, slightly keeping the slim playoff hopes alive for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

  • 7 catches / 162 yards / 23.1 avg / 1 TD

Healthy and back in the lineup, Miami running back De’Von Achane picked up right where he left off. Achane would have been in the Rookie of the year running if not for the injuries. With that somewhat in the rearview mirror, Achane gives the Dolphins another homerun hitter for Tua.

  • 17 carries / 73 yards / 4.3 avg / 2 TD
  • 3 catches / 30 yards / 10 avg

Defensive lineman Bobby Brown III makes his first appearance with a solid game. Here are his stats from Sunday’s victory over the Cleveland Browns.

  • 3 tackles / 1 TFL

Another great week for these former Aggies, and you can check out some of the best photos from week 13.

1-tech defensive tackle prospects for Cowboys to consider throughout draft

Tim Lettiero reviews seven 1-tech defensive tackles who can contribute as a run defender in each round in the upcoming 2021 NFL Draft.

Over the years, few notable names have been brought in to boost the run defense. With Dan Quinn creating a shift in the culture bringing in the likes of Brent Urban, there is hope for the future. With a horrid 2020 campaign in the run stuffing department, the Dallas Cowboys simply must address the position they so frequently are known for ignoring.

Antwaun Woods has shown the ability to be an energetic body off the bench but he is coming off a down year, often given no help by lackluster performances from fellow teammates who have now moved onwards like Dontari Poe. Woods is in desperate need of a rotational partner at minimum and this draft is the perfect opportunity to do so with many viable options throughout the rounds. Here are some names to keep in mind when the Dallas Cowboys are up in each round of the 2021 NFL draft:
