NFL season specials: Joe Burrow’s total 2020 passing yards

Projecting Joe Burrow’s 2020 passing statistics and how they match up with the over/under betting odds.

The Cincinnati Bengals drafted former LSU Tigers QB Joe Burrow No. 1 overall in the 2020 NFL Draft on Thursday, making him their franchise quarterback.

Now the question is how he will perform in his rookie season.

BetMGM has futures bets for how many total passing yards he will have in the 2020 regular season.

Rookie quarterback stats history

Twenty-one rookie quarterbacks have had more than 3,000 passing yards in a season. Only 10 have had more than 3,500 passing yards. Only three surpassed 4,000. The record is held by Andrew Luck, who had 4,374 passing yards as a rookie in 2012. Cam Newton had 4,051 in 2011 and Jameis Winston had 4,042 in 2015.

Passing Yards: 3,999.5 / OVER: -110 / UNDER: -110

Burrow is one of the most decorated passers to enter the NFL. His 2019 season was incredible with 5,671 passing yards and 60 touchdown passes. It was arguably the best season for a college quarterback ever.

However, since only three rookie quarterbacks have ever thrown for at least 4,000 yards, and considering Burrow is joining a Bengals team that was the worst in the league a year ago, the best bet for his passing yards is to take the UNDER (-110). Expect him to be somewhere around 3,500 to 3,600 for the season.

Ohio State 2020 NFL Draft Profile: Joe Burrow, just because

Joe Burrow is destined to be the top pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, and he’ll be receiving nothing but love from Buckeye Nation.

He’s didn’t graduate from Ohio State, nor did he play his final season with the Scarlet and Gray. But, Joe Burrow was a Buckeye at one point and is still a fan favorite of Buckeye Nation. He is an Ohio State graduate and alum after all. So yeah, there’s a little credit being taken here.

For Burrow, change was inevitable. From a lesser-known Ohio community to the big-time Ohio Stadium, Burrow eventually transferred to LSU, where his stardom flourished.

Burrow is projected to be the draft’s top-overall selection after throwing 60 touchdowns during his fifth collegiate season. Also winning the Heisman, he showed leadership on the way to a national championship for LSU.

While many have pegged potential trades for the Bengals or just completely written them off as a place Burrow wants to play, he’s like to head to the Queen City with the first-overall pick.

Going back to his roots, Burrow would be able to captain a team led by superstar receiver A.J. Green and snubbed Pro Bowler Joe Mixon. An improved defense will also help Burrow during his rookie season.

Burrow is hands down the favorite to be the top pick, and there’s no denying he may easily be the most impactful player in the draft by a long shot.

The star played for Ohio State from 2015-2017. That said, let’s dive into what makes Burrow special.

Georgia football great Geno Atkins donates to help feed Cincinnati children

Georgia football great and Cincinnati Bengals star Geno Atkins donated to help feed local children amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Former Georgia defensive tackle Geno Atkins, an eight time pro-bowler with the Cincinnati Bengals, is doing his part to help out his local community amid the COVID-19 crisis.

According to Joe Danneman of FOX19, Atkins and his wife Kristen donated $100,000 to Freestore Foodbank. The donation will help to feed kids and families in the tri-state area.

From Danneman:

The gift will help provide up to 300,000 meals and will go directly to feeding families in southwest Ohio, Northern Kentucky and Southeast Indiana.

Atkins has been one of the league’s most consistent players since being drafted out of Georgia in 2010.

The son of former Saints and Dolphins safety Gene Atkins, Geno married his college sweetheart Kristen in 2016 in Buckhead.

More on the donation:

“We were sitting at home and saw a report on the local news about the increased demand at foodbanks due to the pandemic,” said Geno and Kristen in a statement. “The story tugged at our hearts imagining hard working people are now also worrying about what their families are going to eat.

We knew we had to help our local community. We have always supported Freestore Foodbank through various, and we know it’d be the most immediate and impactful first step to helping those in need during this unprecedented time.”
