Dolphins work out 7 players on Tuesday

Miami worked out 7 before signing 1.

After the Miami Dolphins officially lost running back Darrynton Evans from their practice squad on Monday, they had an open spot that they needed to fill.

With that knowledge, the Dolphins held workouts on Tuesday that included seven players before they signed running back Jake Funk to their practice squad.

While they’ve already made the signing, it may be worth it to get familiar with those who Miami opted not to sign on Tuesday.

Report: Cowboys begin cuts with 3 bench players ahead of deadline

From @ToddBrock24f7: TE Seth Green, DE Ben Banogu, and C Alec Lindstrom were informed Monday evening that they won’t make the Cowboys’ 53-man roster.

The Cowboys’ 53-man roster isn’t officially due until Tuesday, but the team began delivering difficult news on Monday evening to a few would-be players.

Center Alec Lindstrom, defensive end Ben Banogu, and tight end Seth Green have been informed by the club that they won’t be making the team.

All three developments were reported by Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News.

Additionally, all three men appeared in a list of 36 players that Cowboys Wire predicted would be cut, traded, or moved to IR/PUP ahead of Tuesday’s deadline.

Former Indianapolis Colts defensive end Ben Banogu signed with the Dallas Cowboys on Wednesday, per Michael Gehlken of Dallas Morning News.

Banogu, a second-round pick in 2019, never fully developed into the pass-rushing weapon the Colts hoped he would. In 50 career games (no starts), Banogu recorded just 2.5 sacks, three tackles for loss and six quarterback hits.

He became a free agent this offseason following the expiration of his rookie contract.

Banogu’s biggest selling point is his elite athleticism, which teams will continue to try to develop. However, the tape he put on display across his four seasons leaves a lot to be desired as a pass rusher.

This offseason, the Colts added Samson Ebukam to the defensive end room while Yannick Nagkoue remains a free agent as well at the time of this writing.

Cowboys add former second-round draft pick at defensive end

From @ToddBrock24f7: Ben Banogu couldn’t stick as a defensive end/linebacker in Indianapolis, but his hybrid skills may be of use in the Dallas defense.

The Cowboys have added another defensive end to their roster.

The club signed Ben Banogu on Wednesday, putting the current personnel count at 89 players, one short of the limit.

Banogu was a second-round draft pick of the Indianapolis Colts in 2019. The native-born Nigerian grew up in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and graduated from TCU.

The 27-year-old appeared in 50 games over four seasons with the Colts, amassing 29 tackles, three TFLs, six quarterback hits, 2.5 sacks, one pass defended, and one forced fumble.

At 6-foot-3 and 252 pounds, Banogu roughly fits the physical profile that the Cowboys like to see in their ends. He’s known as an uber-athletic player who simply may not have been a good fit in the scheme run by Matt Eberflus, the Colts’ former defensive coordinator. It’s worth noting that he saw action in 16 games last season under new DC Gus Bradley, after getting into just nine games in each of the two years prior.

The edge rusher who flashed linebacker skills in college (and played in the Senior Bowl as one) couldn’t stick in Indy, but the Cowboys do have a soft spot for multi-tooled hybrid players.

Now entering a crowded and promising DE room in Dallas, Banogu will compete alongside the likes of DeMarcus Lawrence, Dorance Armstrong, and Sam Williams, not to mention another edge-rushing linebacker type in Micah Parsons.

9 in-house Colts free agents remain unsigned

These in-house Colts free agents are still on the market.

While the Indianapolis Colts have seen a majority of their in-house free agents join other teams this offseason, there are still a handful of players who wore the horseshoe in 2022 available on the market.

The biggest name still available is quarterback Matt Ryan, but it remains to be seen what his future looks like in the NFL. He accepted a role as an NFL analyst with CBS Sports, but he also made it clear he’s not keen on retiring just yet.

The other big name on the list is defensive end Yannick Ngakoue, who led the Colts with 9.5 sacks during the 2022 season. He’s likely to find a new home sooner rather than later, though it is a bit interesting why he hasn’t signed with a team yet.

The Colts also released veteran quarterback Nick Foles and waived tight end Nikola Kalinic following the 2023 NFL draft so they appear on the list as well.

Here’s a quick look at some of the Colts’ in-house free agents who remain unsigned in the market:

Browns: DTs and pass rushers still available in NFL free agency

The Browns could look for more front-four players. Here are some still on the market.

The Cleveland Browns used two picks in the middle rounds of the 2023 NFL draft to bulk up the front four of their defensive line. First, they selected the big Baylor defensive tackle Siaki Ika with pick no. 98 in the draft, then they went to the edge by selecting Missouri pass rusher Isaiah McGuire in the fourth round.

However, given the nature of the Browns’ putrid run defense from a year ago, could they and defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz still look for added upgrades to the room despite adding six new faces to the roster this offseason?

Here are some interior defensive linemen and edge defenders that are still available on the open market.

Browns: 5 Under-the-radar targets on the market in NFL free agency

The Browns have made a pretty big dent in free agency, but there is still talent at needed positions on the market

While the Cleveland Browns have already made quite a dent in their team needs throughout the first month of NFL free agency, there are still talented players on the roster. With the 2023 NFL Draft just three weeks away, they get an opportunity to add young talent there as well. However, there are still sleepers on the market in free agency for the Browns to consider.

Here are five names of players who may not be at the top of wishlists, but can come in and compete for depth spots on the roster, or even sneak into a starting role if they find their way to Cleveland.

Here are seven Colts to watch against the Lions in preseason Week 2.

The Indianapolis Colts will host the Detroit Lions on Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium as the preseason continues to roll into its second week.
