Nebraska men’s basketball takes down Lindenwood to start the season

The Huskers’ men’s basketball team commenced their 2023-2024 season with a Monday night clash with Lindenwood.

The Huskers’ men’s basketball team commenced their 2023-2024 season with a Monday night clash with Lindenwood. Nebraska took down the Lions with a solid 84-52 outing. The Huskers began the season without their star player, Keisei Tominaga, due to injury but saw five players step up to fill the void by scoring double-digit points.

The five combined for 65 points, 21 rebounds, 13 free throws, and eight 3-pointers. Sam Hoiberg led the charge in the win, dropping a career-high 15 points and five rebounds. C.J. Wilcher finished right behind Hoiberg with 13 points. He also landed three free throws, two 3-pointers and two blocks.

Bradley transfer Rienk Mast, and Charlotte transfer Brice Williams also dropped 13 points in the win. Mast hauled in six rebounds and three assists, while Williams shot three free throws and two 3-pointers.

New Mexico transfer Josiah Allick rounded out Nebraska’s top five in scoring. Allick delivered 11 points for the Huskers and led them in rebounds, securing eight.

Nebraska will remain home to host Florida A&M on Thursday night. The game is set for 7 p.m. and can be viewed on B1G+.

Social media reacts to UNC’s men’s and women’s basketball placement in the Associated Press Top 25 poll.

The North Carolina men’s and women’s basketball programs are looking to add more banners, with both being respected as top 25 teams according to the early looks at the Associated Press Poll.

The season has not started yet, but rankings are already out, with both men and women getting their respect. Despite finishing the season declining an NIT invitation and losing talent as if Thanos snapped his fingers, the men’s program comes in at No.19, while arch-rival Duke Blue Devils sits at No.2.

The women’s team did not cut down the nets to end its season, but they danced to the second round of March Madness, where they lost 71-69 to Ohio State in heartbreaking fashion. The women’s program lost a crucial piece in Kennedy Todd-Williams, but with the experienced Deja Kelly and Alyssa Ustby returning, they ranked at No. 16.

Of course, with the excitement in the air for the upcoming college basketball season, social media had some reactions to the team’s rankings.

In their last outing, the Cyclones were knocked off by the Oklahoma Sooners 27-13. The Mountaineers are coming off of a 41-31 loss to the TCU Horned Frogs. Hunter Dekkers threw for 308 yards, with one touchdown and three interceptions on 37-of-57 passing (64.9%) for the Clones in that matchup against the Sooners. He also added four carries for 31 yards. Cartevious Norton carried the ball 11 times for 27 yards (2.5 yards per carry). He also had three receptions for eight yards. Dimitri Stanley led the receiving charge against the Sooners, catching six passes for 90 yards. JT Daniels went 23-for-39 with 275 yards, two touchdowns and one interception for the Mountaineers against the Horned Frogs. CJ Donaldson carried the ball 19 times for 104 yards and two touchdowns. He caught one pass for zero yards. Sam James caught six passes on 11 targets for 95 yards (15.8 yards per reception).

The Mountaineers are 6.5-point underdogs in their matchup with the Cyclones (the game has an over/under of 50 points).
