Arkansas at Alabama odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Arkansas Razorbacks at Alabama Crimson Tide odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The No. 2 Alabama Crimson Tide (9-1, 5-1 in SEC) hosts the No. 22 Arkansas Razorbacks (7-3, 3-3) in an SEC West showdown Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Arkansas vs. Alabama odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

Rankings courtesy of the AFCA Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Arkansas went into “Death Valley” in Week 11 and beat the LSU Tigers 16-13 in overtime but pushed as 3-point road favorites. The Razorbacks are led by their ground game that attempts the second-most rushes per game and averages the second-most rushing yards per game in the SEC.

Arkansas is 5-4-1 ATS and 6-4 O/U with the 17th-toughest strength of schedule, according to USA Today’s Jeff Sagarin.

Alabama won its fourth straight game Saturday by hammering the New Mexico State Aggies 59-3, covering a massive 51.5-point spread.

Crimson Tide QB Bryce Young has the second-best passer efficiency rating in the country (179.9) and the third-most passing touchdowns (33). Alabama is 6-4 ATS and 5-5 O/U with the 44th-toughest schedule, according to Sagarin.

Arkansas at Alabama odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Alabama 41, Arkansas 14

Money line

PASS because the Crimson Tide needs to win this game if they have any hope of making the College Football Playoffs, but Alabama (-1600) is an outrageous price.

Don’t include Alabama (-1600) in a money line parlay either. There’s no value in playing the money line in this game unless you think Arkansas (+800) can pull off a miracle.

Against the spread

Arkansas is a one-dimensional offense that runs the ball at the sixth-highest rate in college football.

Alabama has one of the best rushing defenses in the country. For instance, the Crimson Tide’s defense ranks fifth in rushing predicted points added (PPA), seventh in rushing success rate, third in line yards per snap, and sixth in open field yards.

On top of that, Alabama has the ninth-best defensive third-down conversion rate and sixth-best defensive success rate on passing downs. The question isn’t “can Alabama win?” It’s “how much will Alabama win by?”

Well, the Crimson Tide have beaten the Razorbacks by at least 32 points in their last four meetings. So, I’ll like the chalky ALABAMA -20.5 (-115) wager to cash this year as well.

Over/Under

PASS with a slight “lean” to the Under 58.5 (-108) because there’s more money wagered on the Under whereas more bets have been placed on the Over, according to Pregame.com. Typically, in sports betting, it’s wise to follow the money when it’s counter to the public.

Furthermore, I think Alabama’s defense squashes Arkansas’s offense. However, since I’m betting and rooting for a Crimson Tide blowout, I’ll stick with Alabama to cover the spread.

Arkansas at LSU odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Arkansas Razorbacks at LSU Tigers odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Arkansas Razorbacks (6-3, 2-3 in SEC) head to “Death Valley” to play the LSU Tigers (4-5, 4-4) at Tiger Stadium Saturday for an SEC showdown. The kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Arkansas vs. LSU odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

Arkansas has won back-to-back games over the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions and Mississippi State Bulldogs following a three-game losing streak to quality conference opponents.

The Razorbacks are 5-4 ATS and 6-3 with the 22nd-toughest strength of schedule, according to USA TODAY’s Jeff Sagarin.

LSU has lost back-to-back games but covered in its latest outing, which was a 20-14 loss at the No. 2 Alabama Crimson Tide as 29.5-point road underdogs in Week 10. The Tigers are 4-5 ATS and 4-5 O/U with the second-hardest strength of schedule, according to Sagarin.

The Tigers have beaten the Razorbacks in five straight meetings but Arkansas has covered in two of the last three games.

Arkansas at LSU odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Arkansas 27, LSU 24

Money line

I’m on ARKANSAS (-135) for 1 unit even though this is traditionally a spot where I’d back LSU (+110). The Tigers are tough to beat in primetime games at “Death Valley”.

But, ultimately, LSU just doesn’t have the bodies to compete in the SEC this season hence it being Tigers head coach Ed Orgeron’s final year on the job. For instance, LSU’s secondary has one four-star and three five-star DBs on its injury report.

More importantly, LSU’s defense is solid on standard downs but terrible on passing downs and the Tigers rank 118th in 3rd-down conversion rate. Plus the advanced analytics paint an even grimmer picture of LSU’s defense in passing situations.

The Tigers rank 114th in defensive passing down success rate, 111th in defensive predicted points added (PPA) on passing downs and 117th in explosive plays allowed on passing downs.

On the other hand, Arkansas ranks 17th in offensive passing down PPA and 16th in opponent’s 3rd-down conversion rate.

The bottom line is this will be the difference-maker in a game that’s priced at a coin-flip. I’ll take the “chalk” road favorite in ARKANSAS (-135).

Against the spread

PASS since the Razorbacks’ money line is just 25 cents on the dollar more expensive than Arkansas -2.5 (-110).

Also, Tiger Stadium is a tough environment to play in and I don’t want to fuss with the points with a road favorite in a conference game. It’s “square” enough paying extra for Arkansas in this spot and I’d hate to lose if the Razorbacks only win by one or two points.

Over/Under

PASS with a slight “lean” to the Under 59.5 (-115) because a vast majority of the market is betting the Over (according to Pregame.com) and my sports betting instinct is to fade lopsided markets. Plus I just kind of have a hunch that Arkansas-LSU is a tight, low-scoring game.

But, my handicap on this contest’s total is fairly shallow so I’ll just stick with Arkansas straight up in this one.

Mississippi State at Arkansas odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Mississippi State at Arkansas odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Mississippi State Bulldogs (5-3, 3-2 SEC) and Arkansas Razorbacks (5-3, 1-3) meet for a Saturday 4 p.m. ET game at Razorback Stadium in Fayetteville, Ark. Below, we look at the Mississippi State vs. Arkansas odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

Rankings courtesy of the AFCA Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Mississippi State defeated Kentucky, 31-17, last Saturday and is 3-1 over its last four games. The only loss in that stretch was against No. 2 Alabama. Against UK, Bulldogs QB Will Rogers set an SEC single-game record for completion percentage (36-of-39, 92.3%), and the MSU signal caller has completed 75.2% of his passes this season (third FBS).

Arkansas is coming off a bye week after an Oct. 23 win over FCS Arkansas-Pine Bluff. That victory snapped a three-game losing streak.

The Razorbacks won last year’s meeting with the Bulldogs, 21-14, in Starkville, Miss. But MSU has held sway in this series of late: the Bulldogs have won seven of the last nine meetings.

Mississippi State at Arkansas odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Arkansas 27, Mississippi State 20

Money line

This game features the pass-first Bulldogs against the run-first Razorbacks. And both defenses are solid in stopping the other’s bread-and-butter. Arkansas is coming off a bye and has had ample to time to prepare for MSU’s air-raid offense.

Arkansas (-190) is a lean here but only a value play at -185 or better. PASS.

Against the spread

Arkansas has a solid offensive line, and the Razorbacks leverage running room into big plays at a healthy clip.

Mississippi State has been extra stingy in preventing touchdowns on red-zone trips. And that metric is not aligned with a not-so-successful record of allowing drives to reach the 40- and 30-yard lines. Peg MSU’s defensive numbers as being a bit suspect.

TAKE THE RAZORBACKS -3.5 (-115).

Over/Under

Arkansas does play at a fast pace usually, but in a successful effort in this spot at home, look for a total in the mid-40s to low-50s. TAKE THE UNDER 52.5 (-110).

Auburn at Arkansas odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Auburn Tigers at Arkansas Razorbacks odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The No. 19 Arkansas Razorbacks (4-2, 1-2 SEC) host the Auburn Tigers (4-2, 1-1) Saturday at Razorback Stadium for a noon ET kickoff. Below, we look at the Auburn vs. Arkansas odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

Rankings according to the AFCA Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Auburn got crushed Oct. 9 at home against the No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs 34-10 as a 14.5-point home underdog, snapping a two-game winning streak. The Tigers’ only other loss this season was at the No. 8 Penn State Nittany Lions on primetime Sept. 19 in a “Penn State White Out” game.

Arkansas has lost back-to-back road games, first at Georgia 37-0 Oct. 2 then to the No. 14 Ole Miss Rebels 52-51 Oct. 9. However, the Razorbacks have exceeded the market’s expectations since they are 5-1 against the spread (ATS) this season.

Auburn squeaked past Arkansas in last year’s meeting 30-28 thanks to a game-winning field goal with 7 seconds remaining. Tigers senior QB Bo Nix is 2-0 vs. the Razorbacks with a 64.4% completion rate, four passing TDs, 0 interceptions, a 161.5 passer efficiency rating and two rushing TDs.

Auburn at Arkansas odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Auburn 27, Arkansas 24

Money line

Slight “LEAN” to AUBURN (+160) for a tiny wager if at all because I “like” the Tigers plus the points and see a little value on the underdog’s money line.

This is a sell-high spot for Arkansas and a buy-low spot for Auburn. The market is excusing the past two Arkansas losses because the Razorbacks covered as underdogs at Ole Miss and weren’t expected to on the road vs. Georgia.

On the other hand, the Tigers are a more popular football program so there’s more attention and scrutiny when Auburn losses. Especially in high-profile, nationally televised games like against Georgia and in primetime vs. Penn State.

Arkansas ranks ninth in rushing rate, but Auburn has the edge in the trenches and stout rushing defense. Auburn’s defensive line ranks fifth in the country in line yards per play (according to Football Outsiders) and 21st in yards per rush allowed (3.2).

Against the spread

Definitely BET AUBURN +4.5 (-115) heavier than or instead of the money line based on the aforementioned logic. Ultimately, I have more faith in Auburn’s ability to win the line of scrimmage and dictate the pace.

Each team has a mobile quarterback and likes to establish the run. But Auburn is much better at stopping the run whereas Arkansas’s defense is 85th in yards per rush allowed (4.5).

Over/Under

Slight “LEAN” to the UNDER 54.5 (-112) for a half unit as a fade against a market that’s betting the Over at a 66% clip at the time of this publishing (according to Pregame.com).

I see this game getting played in the trenches and there’s going to be a lot of running clock with each team looking to pound the rock.

Arkansas at Ole Miss odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Arkansas at Ole Miss odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The No. 16 Arkansas Razorbacks (4-1, 1-1 SEC) travel to meet the No. 17 Ole Miss Rebels (3-1, 0-1) Saturday at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford, Miss. Kickoff is scheduled for noon ET. Below, we look at the Arkansas vs. Ole Miss odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

The Razorbacks were humming along with four straight victories heading into a showdown at the Georgia Bulldogs last week. Arkansas proved to not quite be ready for prime time as it was dusted 37-0. It was also the first ATS loss for the Hogs on the season.

The Rebels also suffered their first loss of the season last week in a 42-21 defeat Saturday at the Alabama Crimson Tide. Despite the season-low in points, Ole Miss is still fifth in the nation with 44.8 PPG. The Rebels are also third in total yards per game through five weeks with 549.3.

Arkansas at Ole Miss odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Ole Miss 41, Arkansas 31

Money line

Ole Miss (-220) will cost you more than two times your potential return, and that’s just a little too expensive for my liking.

AVOID, and look to the spread instead.

Against the spread

OLE MISS -5.5 (-112) has managed a 1-0-1 ATS mark and 57.5 PPG in two games at home. Arkansas was cruising along in non-conference play, but Georgia showed us how far it is from being an upper-echelon team. Lane Kiffin’s Rebels are much closer to being a top-tier team, and they’ll show that Saturday.

Over/Under

The OVER 66.5 (-117) is the way to go in this SEC West showdown. Yes, Alabama handed Ole Miss its lunch last week, limiting QB Matt Corral and the Rebs to just 21 points. However, Ole Miss is back in “The Grove” in front of its boisterous fans and they’ll ratchet it up again for huge totals. Arkansas will certainly be much better offensively this week, too.

The No. 11 Arkansas Razorbacks (4-0, 1-0 SEC) and No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs (4-0, 2-0) meet Saturday at Sanford Stadium in Athens, Ga. Kickoff is scheduled for noon ET. Below, we look at the Arkansas vs. Georgia odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

Arkansas is making believers out of plenty of folks following a neutral-site win over Texas A&M in Arlington, Texas. The Razorbacks won 20-10 as 4.5-point underdogs in the Lone Star State, and they now boast a perfect 4-0 ATS mark.

Georgia kicked off its season with the 10-3 win over Clemson in Charlotte, N.C., and it has passed tests against UAB, South Carolina and Vanderbilt in the weeks that followed. The Bulldogs covered a 36-point spread last week in a 62-0 road victory over Vanderbilt, but the Razorbacks figure to give them the most trouble they’ve seen since Sept. 4.

Arkansas at Georgia odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Georgia 29, Arkansas 17

Money line

There is no way you can take Georgia (-1100), risking 11 times your potential return, especially in a battle between two ranked teams.

AVOID, and look to the spread instead.

Against the spread

I think ARKANSAS +18.5 (-112) catching more than two touchdowns is quite attractive. The Razorbacks have proven that they’re legit defensively and if you doubt that you can ask Texas and Texas A&M for confirmation.

The Razorbacks rank 12th in the nation with just 267.3 total yards per game allowed, while yielding just 14.5 PPG to check-in at 11th. The Bulldogs also boast a suffocating defense, so don’t expect this game to feature a big lead for either side at any point.

Stream college football games on ESPN+ by signing up here.

Over/Under

As mentioned above, these teams boast tremendous defensive units. While UNDER 48.5 (-117) is a rather low number for this day and age of football, it’s a bit on the high side for two teams of this caliber on defense.

Yes, Arkansas has hit the Over three times in four tries, but that’s mostly due to the offense putting up big numbers against Rice and Georgia Southern. They won’t have nearly as much success against UGA, especially between the hedges.

Texas A&M vs. Arkansas odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Texas A&M vs. Arkansas odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Texas A&M Aggies (3-0) meet the Arkansas Razorbacks (3-0) in a Saturday afternoon SEC West clash at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The Aggies and Razorbacks will kick off at 3:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Texas A&M vs. Arkansas odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

Texas A&M is No. 5 in the AFCA Coaches Poll, powered by USA TODAY Sports, and allowed a total of 17 points while defeating Kent State, Colorado, and New Mexico. The Aggies have yielded just 239.3 yards per game and their 3.64 yards per play allowed ranks third in the nation.

Sophomore QB Zach Calzada has had some early struggles, but he threw for 275 yards and 3 touchdowns in A&M’s win over New Mexico last week.

No. 18 Arkansas has allowed just 16.0 points per game in its victories over Rice, Texas, and Georgia Southern. The Razorbacks have been especially tough on third downs, holding foes to a 27.7% conversion rate.

A&M won last year’s meeting — in which it was favored by 14.5 points — by a score of 42-31.

Texas A&M vs. Arkansas odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Texas A&M 27, Arkansas 21

Money line

PASS, and focus on a solid A&M play against the number.

Against the spread

The Aggies are 7-3 ATS over their last 10 games dating back to last October. Two of those three ATS setbacks were due to last-minute, garbage-time scores.

Texas A&M is minus-3 in the turnover margin and Arkansas is plus-3. Last year’s game had a more talented roster base in the Aggies favored by 13 points. A&M won by 11 after a garbage-time score for the Razorbacks.

Has that much changed since? BACK THE AGGIES -4.5 (-110).

Peg A&M as being able to find enough success on first and second down and leverage a talent advantage in the trenches.

Stream college football games on ESPN+ by signing up here.

Over/Under

Figure the market on overcorrecting the total here based on early-season mismatches. Again, looking at last year’s game — which finished with 73 total points — the O/U was 54.5.

BACK THE OVER 46.5 (-110).

Texas at Arkansas odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Texas at Arkansas odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The No.15 Texas Longhorns (1-0) and Arkansas Razorbacks (1-0) meet Saturday at Razorback Stadium in Fayetteville, Ark. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Texas at Arkansas odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

Rankings courtesy of the AFCA Coaches Poll, powered by USA TODAY Sports.

The Longhorns won by a comfortable margin against previously ranked Louisiana last weekend at the DKR. The ‘Horns attack was balanced, rushing for 170 yards and passing for 265 yards, and they easily covered the spread in a 38-18 victory.

The Razorbacks host their former, and future, conference rivals after a tussle with Rice last week. Arkansas had its hands full with the Owls, trailing 10-7 at halftime, and 17-7 early in the third quarter.

QB K.J. Jefferson took over in the second half, running for a score and passing for another, as the Hogs rattled off 31 unanswered points to win it going away, grabbing a cover in the process.

Texas at Arkansas odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Texas 34, Arkansas 23

Money line

Texas (-280) will cost you more than two and a half times your potential winnings, and that’s just too expensive, especially on the road.

AVOID, and focus on the spread instead.

Against the spread

TEXAS -7.5 (+100) is a nice play on the road.

The Longhorns replaced some important pieces, but most importantly they replaced the man up top. Head coach Steve Sarkisian had them looking like a well-oiled machine against a good Ragin’ Cajuns side last week. They won’t falter against a Razorbacks team.

Jefferson has the tools to make this one interesting for Arkansas, but it doesn’t have near the same speed as Texas.

Over/Under

OVER 55.5 (-108) is worth a small-unit play, but don’t get too carried away. Texas scored 38 points at home but it’ll be hard-pressed to do so on the road. Still, the Longhorns will be able to do enough.

Arkansas won’t have its way with Texas like it did against Rice last week, but the Razorbacks are home again and should get off to a better start than they did against the Owls.

Rice at Arkansas odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Rice at Arkansas odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Rice Owls and Arkansas Razorbacks meet Saturday in their season openers at Razorback Stadium in Fayetteville, Ark. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET. The game can be viewed on ESPN+. Below, we look at the Rice at Arkansas odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

The Owls are on the rise after many seasons in the doldrums. Head coach Mike Bloomgren is leading the resurgence. Rice had a losing record in a COVID-shortened 2020, going 2-3, but all three setbacks were by 10 points or less.

Rice QB Luke McCaffrey, brother of Carolina Panthers standout Christian McCaffrey, is expected to see time under center. He is a dual-threat option battling redshirt junior QB Wiley Green, who has nine starts under his belt.

Arkansas won three games in the SEC last season, as head coach Sam Pittman has the Hogs pointed in the right direction again. The Razorbacks were good for 25.7 points per game in the SEC, more than a touchdown better than the 17.5 PPG they posted in league outings in 2019. They hope that success spills over to this battle against a conference foe from back in the day.

Rice at Arkansas odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Arkansas 34, Rice 17

Money line

Arkansas (-1200) will cost you 12 times your potential return, or $8.33 won for every $100 risked. That’s a lot of risk for not much reward.

AVOID.

Against the spread

RICE +19.5 (-112) has yet to name a starting quarterback, but that’s OK. Both McCaffrey and Green are talented players capable of keeping the Owls in the game. Rice won’t threaten to post the upset in this battle between old Southwest Conference rivals, but it will be able to keep the deficit under 20.

Over/Under

The lean is to the OVER 49.5 (-112), but go very lightly. It might not happen until late in the fourth quarter. Arkansas had an improved defense last season, and it will make life miserable for Rice. The Owls, though, have a dual-threat option in McCaffrey, and Green is experienced when his number is called. Rice will be able to find the end zone at least twice.

Speaking of scoring, look for Arkansas’ all-everything WR Treylon Burks to do big things Saturday, too.
