Alabama vs. UConn picks and predictions

Prediction

UConn 81, Alabama 68

Moneyline

PASS.

There is no value betting on UConn (-750) as one would have to risk 7½ times the potential return.

The Huskies have won 11 games in a row and 25 of their last 26. They’ve won each of their 4 NCAA Tournament games by 17 points or more for an average win margin of 27.8 points per game.

Against the spread

LEAN UCONN -11.5 (-115).

The Crimson Tide have covered in each of their 4 Tourney games, including one as 4.5-point underdogs in an 89-87 upset of top-seeded North Carolina.

However, their defense has been a liability. They’ve allowed 82 or more points in 3 of the 4 games and 81 or more points in 9 of their last 10.

On the contrary, the Huskies defense is one of their top strengths. It has allowed them to not only win each of their Tournament games but to win them in blowout fashion. They have covered in each of their 4 Tourney games with 3 of the covers being as 12-point or more favorites.

Understandably, this is a high line for a Final Four game, but it is worth a small wager to back the defending national champs.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 161.5 (-115).

While Alabama tends to score at a high rate, it faces a UConn team that has hit the Under in 5 straight and 8 of its last 9. The Huskies have held opponents to 58 or fewer points in each of its 4 Tournament games and 67 or fewer points in 9 of their last 10 games overall.

The Crimson Tide tend to play at a high pace, but the pace Saturday will be controlled by UConn, which will ultimately lead to the Under hitting.

March Madness: Clemson vs. Alabama odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Clemson vs. Alabama odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Clemson Tigers (24-11) and Alabama Crimson Tide (24-11) meet in the West Region final Saturday in Los Angeles. The opening tip-off at Crypto.com Arena is slated for 8:49 p.m. ET (TBS). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Clemson vs. Alabama odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

Clemson was an 8 1/2-point underdog Thursday against No. 2-seed Arizona, but the 6th-seeded Tigers prevailed, holding the Wildcats to a 37.3% mark from the floor and winning 77-72. Winner of 3 straight games as an underdog, CU now turns its attention to the Crimson Tide, a team it beat 85-77 back on Nov. 28.

Alabama, ranked No. 18 in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll, is the 4-seed in the West. On Thursday, the Crimson Tide defeated No. 1-seed North Carolina 89-87 (beating the spread as a +4.5). UA held the Tar Heels to a 38.5% mark from the field and in the Tournament has held opposing shooters to a 37.7% mark.

Clemson vs. Alabama picks and predictions

Prediction

Alabama 81, Clemson 80

Moneyline

PASS: look for more value in a play against the number.

Against the spread

Clemson has played 10 games as an underdog; it has gone 9-1 ATS in those games.

UA is averaging an NCAA-I-best 90.7 points per game, Clemson is 13-3 ATS when facing teams averaging 77-or-more points. This game offers up a pace contrast with the Tigers playing at a slower-than-average tempo and the Tide playing one the fastest in the game. But against the fastest 4 ACC squads (Florida State, Louisville, North Carolina, Syracuse), CU went 5-2 ATS during the regular season. In the Tournament, the Tigers have logged ATS victories against fast New Mexico and Arizona.

And during the season, when Clemson topped Alabama Nov. 28, that was an ATS win for the Tigers.

Clemson likes to get the ball inside, and the Alabama interior defense is not a strength. Still, UA figures to leverage systemic advantages in rebounding and in getting to the foul line. But a Tide edge in 3-point shooting (UA launches a ton of 3s and makes them at a top-25 rate) is softened by a Clemson surge in perimeter defense. The Tigers have held opponents to a 28.3% mark on 3s since Feb. 21.

Some air has been taken out of this play by a Friday line move: consider a partial-unit play on CLEMSON +3.5 (-110).

Stream select live college basketball games and full replays: Get ESPN+

Over/Under

In 7 Clemson neutral-site games this season, the Under has gone 6-1.

These are 2 veteran teams who will leave everything on the court at the defensive end in this one. CU’s defensive rebounding and perimeter defense should take the starch out of a couple point-spiral factors for Alabama.

In the aforementioned Clemson games against fast ACC foes, Alabama, New Mexico, and Arizona, the Under went 7-3.

TAKE THE UNDER 163.5 (-105).

March Madness: Alabama vs. North Carolina odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Alabama vs. North Carolina odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The 4th-seeded Alabama Crimson Tide (23-11) face the top-seeded North Carolina Tar Heels (29-7) Thursday in a West Region Sweet 16 matchup. Tip-off from Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles is set for 9:39 p.m. ET (CBS). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Alabama vs. North Carolina odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

Alabama, ranked No. 18 in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll, has advanced in the tournament with victories over Charleston and Grand Canyon. In the latter win, a 72-61 triumph covering as 5-point favorites Sunday, the Tide had to battle back from a 3-point deficit with 5:43 remaining.

North Carolina, tabbed as the national No. 4 in the coaches poll, has defeated Wagner and Michigan State. The Tar Heels’ Saturday win over MSU was a sturdy 85-69 job, covering a 4-point spread. Since Feb. 17, UNC is 10-1 with an average margin of victory of 13.1 points.

UA and UNC have met twice in the last 5 years, both times in early-season tournaments on neutral floors. The Tar Heels won in 2019 in a contest played in the Bahamas. In 2022, Alabama nipped North Carolina 103-101 in an overtime contest played in Portland.

Alabama vs. North Carolina picks and predictions

Prediction

North Carolina 85, Alabama 82

Moneyline

The lean here is on this being a close game, but UA is 1-9 straight up in its last 10 games as an underdog. Hold off on trying to cash on the Tide outright.

PASS.

Against the spread

The Crimson Tide are 9-5 ATS in non-SEC games.

Alabama looked to have been slumping in late February and early March, but its 2 tournament wins in this West bracket have been impressive.

Figure the public being a tad too high on the Tar Heels. While UNC has some systemic advantages (rebounding, free throws) in what figures to be a contest with a ton of possessions, its recent 3-point defense (39.6% last 3 games, 37.9% since Feb. 26) is a glaring issue against this fast-break, perimeter-launch Alabama 5.

On offense, Carolina can be goaded into taking too many mid-range, sub-optimal shots.

TAKE THE CRIMSON TIDE +4.5 (-110).

Stream select live college basketball games and full replays: Get ESPN+

Over/Under

Look for solid handles on the basketball at both ends, and figure inside looks for UA — normally a staple to be tougher to come by.

Both teams play fast. The Tide play exceedingly fast. And the only UNC-comparable defense they have seen in the SEC belongs to Tennessee. The O/U went 1-1 across UA and TU games in the regular season. The 2nd game was a drama-free Under; the 1st game hit the Over but only with some statistically unlikely transition and perimeter ball cranked out by the Volunteers.

BACK THE UNDER 173.5 (-110) in this one.

March Madness: Grand Canyon vs. Alabama odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Grand Canyon vs. Alabama odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Grand Canyon Antelopes (30-4) and Alabama Crimson Tide (22-11) meet Sunday in 2nd-round action in the NCAA Tournament. Tip-off from the Spokane (Wash.) Veterans Memorial Arena is slated for 7:10 p.m. ET (TBS). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Grand Canyon vs. Alabama odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

Grand Canyon picked up its 1st-ever NCAA Tournament victory on Friday night against Saint Mary’s, as the 12th seed upset the 5th seed in Spokane. The Antelopes won 75-66 as 5.5-point underdogs as the Over (132) cashed. That’s 6 straight victories and covers since consecutive losses in the WAC on the road against Tarleton State and Abilene Christian Feb. 22-24.

The SEC has had an ugly NCAA Tournament, but Alabama was able to avoid the upset bug with a 109-96 win over Charleston in the opening round, covering as 8.5-point favorites as the Over (172.5) easily connected. Bama shot a blistering 60% (36 of 60) from the field, including 57% (13 of 23) from behind the 3-point line.

If there was a concern for Alabama in the 1st game, it managed just a 65% (24 of 37) mark from the free-throw line. It can’t leave that many points on the floor in a close game. Mark Sears did his part at the line, though, hitting 9 of 11, finishing with a team-best 30 points with 5 assists and 4 rebounds, while knocking down 3 triples.

Alabama was No. 18 in the final USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll of the regular season, while Grand Canyon was unranked.

Grand Canyon vs. Alabama and predictions

Prediction

Alabama 95, Grand Canyon 84

Moneyline

Alabama (-250) will cost you 2 1/2 times your potential return, and that’s just a little too expensive for a singular bet. Even as part of a multi-bet parlay, including Bama on your ticket sucks a lot of value out.

PASS, and look to the line instead.

Against the spread

ALABAMA -5.5 (-115) is a strong play laying the points. Grand Canyon +5.5 (-105) was sharp against Saint Mary’s, and it has won and covered 6 in a row. But this Crimson Tide offense is a whole other animal, and it can routinely score into the 90’s and 100’s.

The Antelopes are likely to be right there in the 1st half, as G Tyon Grant-Foster can fill up the stat sheet, and he is 1 of 3 players who averaged 13.4 PPG or more during the season. But depth will be an issue down the stretch, and the Crimson Tide should pull away for a comfortable margin of victory to punch their ticket to the Sweet 16 in style.

Stream select live college basketball games and full replays: Get ESPN+

Over/Under

OVER 168.5 (-110) is the best play on the board.

Alabama can put up lofty offensive totals, and it doesn’t focus much at the defensive end. We’ll likely get a very wide-open and entertaining basketball game, especially if you like points.

The Antelopes have been cooking offensively, too. Grand Canyon cashed the Over against Saint Mary’s, and the total has gone high in each of its 3 postseason games to date. The Over is 9-4 in the past 13 games, too.

For the Crimson Tide, they’ve gone for 87 or more points in 4 in a row, and 9 of the past 10 outings, with the Over going 11-1 in the past 12 games. One of the scariest things to do this season is take a chance on an Alabama Under. Don’t do it.

March Madness: Charleston vs. Alabama odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Charleston vs. Alabama odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Charleston Cougars (27-7) and Alabama Crimson Tide (21-11) meet Friday for an NCAA Tournament 1st-round game. Tip-off from the Veterans Memorial Arena in Spokane, Wash., is scheduled for approximately 7:35 p.m. ET (truTV). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Charleston vs. Alabama odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

The 13-seeded Cougars of the Coastal Athletic Association, formerly the Colonial, won 3 games in its conference tournament to punch its ticket to the Big Dance. Charleston topped Towson by just 5 in the semifinals, and it edged Stony Brook in OT by just 3 in the final. It has failed to cover the past 2 outings after a 5-0 against the spread (ATS) run.

Charleston faced 3 teams in the NCAA Tournament field, losing by 18 points to Duquesne and by 9 points to Vermont in neutral-site games, while falling by 16 at FAU. The Cougars are also 0-3 ATS in 3 games against NCAA Tournament teams this season.

The 4th-seeded Crimson Tide struggled down the stretch, dropped 4 of the past 6 games, including its 1st game of the SEC Tournament against Florida. The Crimson Tide is also 0-4 ATS in the past 4 games, and 1-6 ATS in the previous 7 outings.

Alabama ranked No. 1 in the country with 90.8 PPG scored, and the Tide enters the NCAA Tournament on a 3-0 Over run, while cashing the Over in 10 of the past 11 games. Alabama is No. 18 in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll.

Charleston vs. Alabama picks and predictions

Prediction

Alabama 95, Charleston 82

Moneyline

Alabama (-500) will cost you 5 times your potential return, and that’s way too much risk for not enough reward. Even as part of a multi-team parlay, including Bama sucks all of the value out of your ticket.

PASS, and focus on the spread instead.

Against the spread

ALABAMA -9.5 (-110) is worth a look, especially if it remains under double digits.

The Crimson Tide has a tremendous resume, with wins over NCAA Tournament teams Auburn, Florida, Mississippi State (x2), Morehead State, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas A&M, and everybody’s favorite tournament snub, Indiana State.

Charleston +9.5 (-110), on the other hand, is 0-3 SU/ATS in 3 games against NCAA Tournament teams, losing by an average of 14.3 PPG against those opponents.

Stream select live college basketball games and full replays: Get ESPN+

Over/Under

OVER 173.5 (-105) is a strong play.

Alabama was the highest-scoring team in the regular season, and it wouldn’t be shocking to see this team go for triple digits. Charleston allowed 73.3 PPG, which was in the bottom 3rd in the nation, while teams had a 44.4% field-goal percentage against the Cougars, while hitting 3s at a 33.6% clip. However, Charleston can move, and score the basketball, averaging 81.0 PPG.

Look for this game to be a rather high-scoring affair in Spokane.

Arkansas at Alabama odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Arkansas at Alabama odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Arkansas Razorbacks (15-15, 6-11 SEC) and No. 17 Alabama Crimson Tide (20-10, 12-5) wrap up their regular seasons Saturday. Tip-off from Coleman Coliseum is set for noon ET (ESPN). Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Arkansas vs. Alabama odds as we make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

The Razorbacks are coming off a 94-83 Senior Night win against the LSU Tigers Wednesday. They covered the spread as 4.5-point favorites, and the game went over the 154.5 total. G Khalif Battle put on a show in front of the home fans in his last night at Bud Walton, finishing with 29 points, 4 boards, 3 blocks, 2 assists and a steal. Arkansas as a team blocked 10 of LSU’s shots in the victory.

The Razorbacks are 2-6 in their last 8 SEC road games.

Alabama, which is No. 17 in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll, is coming off of an embarrassing 105-87 loss at the Florida Gators Tuesday. It failed to cover the spread as a 2.5-point underdog, and the Over (176) hit. The Crimson Tide got 33 points from G Mark Sears on 4-of-6 shooting from long range, but it wasn’t enough. Alabama’s 13 turnovers, which became 17 Gator points, were its downfall in the end.

The Crimson Tide have won 7 of their last 8 SEC home games.

Alabama is 3-0 straight up and 1-2 ATS in the last 3 meetings. The most recent meeting was an Arkansas cover as a 7.5-point underdog in an 86-83 Crimson Tide win in Tuscaloosa Feb. 25, 2023, as the Over (154) hit.

PASS.

You should obviously avoid betting Alabama (-1700), as those odds are ridiculously high. Bet the spread and/or total instead.

Against the spread

BET ARKANSAS +15.5 (-110).

I’m going to ride the hot hand with the Razorbacks. They have covered the spread in 5 of their last 6 games and are on a 3-game ATS winning streak on the road.

Alabama has failed to cover in 4 of its last 5, including back-to-back non-covers at home.

While the Crimson Tide have won 4 of the last 5 head-to-head matchups against Arkansas, the Razorbacks have covered the spread in 8 of the last 10 meetings.

AVOID.

If you want to bet this, be my guest, but this number is just too darn high for me. All the trends tell me to bet the Over, but I can’t do it.

The Over has hit in 8 of Alabama’s last 10 games and 9 of the last 10 for Arkansas. Neither of these teams particularly takes pride in its defense; they both just try to outscore opponents. It will likely be a shootout.

Alabama at Florida odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Alabama at Florida odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The No. 17 Alabama Crimson Tide (20-9, 12-4 SEC) head to Exactech Arena at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center to face the No. 25 Florida Gators (20-9, 10-6) Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET (ESPN). Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Alabama vs. Florida odds as we make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

Alabama, which is No. 17 in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll, is coming off a tough 81-74 home loss to the No. 4-ranked Tennessee Volunteers Saturday. It failed to cover the spread as a 4-point favorite, and the Under (174) hit. The Crimson Tide committed 12 turnovers which Tennessee converted to 17 points. G Mark Sears crossed the 20-point mark for the 11th time in his last 12 games. Alabama is 2-2 in its last 4 SEC road games and sits 1 game back of 1st place in the conference.

The No. 25 Gators lost 82-76 to the No. 16 South Carolina Gamecocks in Columbia Saturday. They did not cover the spread as 2-point underdogs, and the game went over the 144 total. Junior G Walter Clayton Jr. led the team in scoring with 20 points but committed 6 of the team’s 12 total turnovers. Florida has won 7 straight games at home during SEC play and currently sits 3 games back of 1st place in the conference.

Alabama has won the last 4 meetings with Florida. The Gators covered as 10-point underdogs in a 98-93 OT loss at Alabama in the most recent meeting Feb. 21 as the Over (173) hit.

Alabama at Florida picks and predictions

Prediction

Florida 89, Alabama 85

Moneyline

BET FLORIDA (-114).

These 2 played a barnburner in the Feb. 21 meeting. It was a back-and-forth affair with the Crimson Tide coming out on top. The Gators will get their revenge at home Tuesday night, where they have won their last 5 in SEC play. Florida is also 2-1 since that loss in Tuscaloosa.

We know that Clayton and Sears will battle and get their points, but the winner will be determined by who gets the help from their supporting cast. I believe the Gators’ inside combo of C Micah Handlogten and F Tyrese Samuel will take care of business.

Against the spread

PASS.

I’ll keep my unit bet to the moneyline in this one.

Over/Under

AVOID.

If you want to bet this, be my guest, but this number is just too darn high for me. All the trends tell me to bet the Over, but I can’t do it.

In the last 5 head-to-head battles, the game has gone over the total. The Over has hit in 7 of Alabama’s last 8 games and in 4 of the last 5 for Florida.

Tennessee at Alabama odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Tennessee at Alabama odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Tennessee Volunteers (5-1, 2-1 SEC) and Alabama Crimson Tide (6-1, 4-0) meet Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET (CBS). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Tennessee vs. Alabama odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

This is, essentially, an elimination game for both sides. It’s an elimination game for a potential College Football Playoff spot, and 2 SEC losses will likely end any hopes for a spot in the SEC Championship Game.

Tennessee has won 3 straight games since dropping a 29-16 decision at Florida on Sept. 16. It eased by Texas A&M by a 20-13 score as a 3-point favorite last time out, covering for the 3rd straight game. The Under is 3-1-1 in the past 5 games for the Vols.

Alabama won 24-21 against Arkansas last time out, although the Razorbacks easily covered a 19-point number to snap a 3-0 ATS run for Bama. After some early-season offensive struggles, the Tide has scored 24 or more points in 4 straight contests, and the Over is 2-0-1 in the past 3 tries.

Tennessee is No. 15 and Alabama is No. 8 in the US LBM Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Tennessee at Alabama picks and predictions

Prediction

Alabama 29, Tennessee 24

Moneyline

Alabama (-350) will cost you 3½ times your potential return, and that’s way too much risk for not enough reward in what should be a very close game.

Last season, Tennessee (+260) picked up a wild 52-49 score, its most points in the history of this rivalry. Bama will have revenge on its mind, but this will be a tight game coming down to the very end, just like last season.

PASS.

Against the spread

TENNESSEE +8.5 (-110) is worth the play in this SEC Battle of the Titans, as it will keep this a 1-score game down in T-Town.

I was feeling good about Alabama -8.5 (-110) after impressive showings against Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Texas A&M on the road. However, Bama’s sluggish near-miss against Arkansas is a concern.

As a single-digit favorite, Alabama is 2-1 ATS this season, but that lone non-cover was an outright loss to Texas as a 7-point favorite.

Over/Under

OVER 48.5 (-105) is the lean, although we’re unlikely to have a combined 101 points like last season’s wild shootout at Neyland Stadium.

The Over is 2-0-1 in the past 3 games for Alabama, and it has scored 24 or more points in 4 straight contests. The defense hasn’t been as dominant as past years, either, allowing 19.3 PPG in the past 3 outings.

For Tennessee, it has rolled up 40 or points in 4 of 6 games to date, and it allowed 29 points in its lone true road game this season.

Arkansas at Alabama odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Arkansas at Alabama odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Arkansas Razorbacks (2-4, 0-3 SEC) and the Alabama Crimson Tide (5-1, 3-0) meet Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Kickoff is scheduled for noon ET (ESPN). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Arkansas vs. Alabama odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

It’s been a tough go for the Razorbacks lately, dropping 3 straight conference games, and 4 straight games overall. Arkansas has managed a winning record (2-1) against the spread (ATS) in league play. It played Ole Miss tough last time out, falling just 27-20 as a 13-point underdog as the Under (61.5) cashed. The Under snapped a 3-0 Over run, as Arkansas had allowed 34 or more points in the previous 3 outings.

Alabama gutted out a 26-20 win on the road at Texas A&M last week, cashing as 2.5-point favorites. After an early-season loss at home to Texas followed by a struggle against South Florida on the road, Bama has snapped back into form in SEC play, going 3-0 SU and ATS, including 2 road wins.

Alabama is No. 10 in the US LBM Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Arkansas at Alabama picks and predictions

Prediction

Alabama 34, Arkansas 17

Moneyline

Alabama (-1100) will cost you 11 times your potential return, and that’s just way too much risk for not nearly enough reward.

While Arkansas (+700) is winless in league play, it has played nearly everybody in the SEC tough. I don’t expect the Razorbacks to win, but I don’t expect them to get blown out, either, especially with the dynamic QB K.J. Jefferson leading the way.

PASS.

Against the spread

ARKANSAS +19.5 (-110) is the play, although I’d obviously feel better if this were to sneak over the 20-point mark by kickoff.

The Razorbacks have dropped 4 straight, including 3 in a row inside the SEC. However, Arkansas has been a bur in the saddle for Ole Miss and LSU, playing those ranked foes to a 1-score game, on the road in each contest. The Razorbacks won’t be intimidated by the Crimson Tide, although they won’t win outright, either. It should be a 2-score game late into the day.

Over/Under

OVER 46.5 (-115) is the lean, as this number seems to be on the low side.

Arkansas has scored 20 or more points in all 6 games to date, cashing the Over in 3 of the previous 4 outings. The defense has also allowed 27 or more points in the 4-game losing streak, including 34 or more points on 3 occasions.

Alabama should get well offensively against the Hogs. The Tide has had uncharacteristic struggles on offense at times, going for 26 or fewer points in 4 of the past 5 outings. However, defensively, Bama is still Bama, allowing just 50 total points across the past 4 outings. That’s the rub, and why the line is so low. I don’t expect a track meet, but we should get at least 50 total points here.
