March Madness: Baylor vs. Arkansas odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Monday’s Baylor vs. Arkansas odds and lines, with March Madness Elite 8 picks and predictions.

The 3-seed Arkansas Razorbacks (25-6) take on the 1-seed Baylor Bears (25-2) in a South Regional Elite 8 game Monday at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Tip-off is scheduled for 9:57 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Baylor-Arkansas odds and lines, with March Madness NCAA Tournament picks and predictions.

Baylor stormed back from a 7-point deficit at the end of the first half of its Sweet 16 game vs. 5-seed Villanova to win 62-51 and cover the spread as a 7.5-point favorite.

Each of the Bears’ three NCAA Tournament victories has been by double digits but they’ve gone 2-1 against the spread. This is Baylor’s third Elite 8 appearance in head coach Scott Drew’s 18 seasons on the job.

The Razorbacks also climbed back from a 7-point first-half deficit to beat 15-seed Oral Roberts 72-70 in the Sweet 16. They couldn’t cover as monster 11.5-point favorites.

In head coach Eric Musselman’s second season, Arkansas has advanced to the Elite 8 for the first time since the Razorbacks lost in the National Final to UCLA in 1995.

Baylor vs. Arkansas: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Baylor 75, Arkansas 71

Money line (ML)

PASS even though I like Arkansas to cover because Baylor has so many ways it can win and players who can create their own quality looks.

The Razorbacks’ path to victory is turning this game into a “rock fight” and getting the Bears into foul trouble.

Play our new, free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

Baylor’s offense pulled a no-show in the Sweet 16, sinking a season-low three 3-pointers against Villanova, whose 3-point defense is far worse than that of Arkansas.

The Bears got back into that game, and eventually won it, because of their insane ball pressure which forced ‘Nova miscues and led to easy buckets. Baylor won the turnover battle with Villanova 15-5 and is sixth in the nation in defensive turnover rate.

Villanova lost its leader and starting point guard Collin Gillespie to a knee injury in the regular season so it was easier for Baylor to ruffle Villanova’s feathers.

All-SEC first-team Arkansas PG Moses Moody is fifth in the conference in turnover rate and should stabilize the Razorbacks’ offense through turbulent stretches in this game.

Furthermore, I have trouble laying 8 points with Baylor when it’s only 292nd in FTA/FG rate and 265th in defensive rebounding percentage.

It would be easier for the Bears to create a margin if they were more aggressive at getting to the foul line and I could see the Razorbacks getting easy putbacks and second-chance points since Baylor is a bad defensive rebounding team.

BET ARKANSAS +8 (-110) for 1 unit.

Over/Under (O/U)

While it’s notable how poorly Baylor shot from three in the Sweet 16 because it has the highest 3-point shooting percentage in the nation, Arkansas made a season-low one 3-pointer in its Sweet 16 game.

The Razorbacks are 2-8 O/U in their previous 10 games and the Bears have gone Under the total in two of three NCAA Tournament games.

BET a half-unit on UNDER 148.5 (-110).

March Madness: Arkansas vs. Texas Tech odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Sunday’s Arkansas vs. Texas Tech odds and lines, with March Madness Round 2 picks and predictions.

The Arkansas Razorbacks (23-6) take on the Texas Tech Red Raiders (18-10) in a South Region Second Round game Sunday. The third-seeded Razorbacks and sixth-seeded Raiders will tip-off at 6:10 p.m. ET at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Below, we analyze the Arkansas-Texas Tech odds and lines, with March Madness NCAA Tournament picks and predictions.

Arkansas brushed away Colgate 85-68 in its First Round contest. The Razorbacks enter Sunday’s tilt having won 10 of their last 11 games. Arkansas sports a fast-tempo style and a tremendous set of per-possession defensive stats.

Texas Tech also plays excellent defense (Big 12-leading 63.0 points per game allowed), but the Red Raiders play at a much slower tempo. TTU went to a regional final in 2018 and the national championship in 2019. The Raiders defeated Utah State 65-53 in their Friday tourney opener.

Arkansas vs. Texas Tech: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Arkansas 71, Texas Tech 66

Money line (ML)

Both sides defend well and both can block shots. TTU is especially effective in shutting down the transition game. Arkansas can better defend the area in and around the paint. There are some style clashes, however, that make for some leverage on the Razorbacks’ side of the ledger.

Texas Tech hasn’t found much success against other fives that deliver big-time defensive production. Against top Big-12 defensive teams Kansas, Oklahoma State, Texas, and Baylor (and throw in solid non-conference foe in Abilene Christian), the Raiders are a combined 1-7 ATS.

Sunday’s game is also a fast (UA)-vs.-slow (TTU) clash. Against the three fastest teams in the Big 12, the Raiders are 2-4 ATS. Against the four slowest SEC squads (plus methodical North Texas in the non-SEC slate), the Razorbacks are 4-1 ATS.

TAKE ARKANSAS (+105).

Play our new, free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

PASS on paying for the point-and-a-half with an ATS play. The UA money-line play is solid.

Over/Under (O/U)

Tournament Arkansas is a 3-0 proposition on the Under. And the Under is 6-2 in the Razorbacks’ last eight games. The tag here is a far cry lower than what UA usually gets, but the UNDER 140.5 (-110) is s small-to-moderate lean.

Previewing Friday’s Arkansas Razorbacks vs. Colgate Raiders odds and lines, with March Madness Round 1 picks and predictions.

The Colgate Raiders (14-1) take on the Arkansas Razorbacks (22-6) in an NCAA South Region First Round Game Friday. The 14th-seeded Raiders and third-seeded Razorbacks will tip-off at 12:45 p.m. ET at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Below, we analyze the Colgate-Arkansas odds and lines, with March Madness NCAA Tournament picks and predictions.

G Moses Moody is leading Arkansas in scoring at 17.4 points per game. The freshman sensation has come on strong of late and shot 40.0% from distance in averaging 21.8 PPG over his last six games.

The Raiders didn’t begin their season until Jan. 2. They played Army in their first two games, losing the second of those but CU hasn’t lost since. The Raiders take good care of the basketball while playing a fast tempo. Three-hundred-and-forty-seven teams have played NCAA-I basketball this winter; Colgate has averaged more points per game (86.3) than 345 of them.

Prediction

Arkansas 82, Colgate 77

Senior guard play leads the way for the Raiders: G Jordan Burns, G Jack Ferguson, and G Nelly Cummings are CU’s top three scorers. Burns is the fifth-leading scorer in the Patriot League with 17.0 points per game and the circuit’s top assist distributor with 5.3 per game. Those guards have led a CU squad that went a combined 25-for-42 from 3-point range the last two games.

Against the spread (ATS)

The Raiders are 19-7 ATS in their last 26 games against winning teams.

The 3s can keep the Raiders at a single-digit deficit. Or perhaps get them under the wire for a late back-door cover. TAKE COLGATE +8.5 (-110).

Over/Under (O/U)

This game has been one of the more heavily bet contests mid-week, and here’s the reason: Colgate and Arkansas are fast-paced fives.

The total accounts for that but perhaps goes a couple of points too far. BACK UNDER 161.5 (-110).

Arkansas at South Carolina: Three things to know

  1. The Razorbacks enter play on a six-game win and cover streak, including an 83-75 win against LSU on Saturday in their most recent outing. The Under has also cashed in each of the past three outings for Arkansas.
  2. South Carolina hasn’t had a lot to be excited about this season, winning just six games overall. However, the highlight of the season might have come on Saturday when they hammered rival Georgia by a 91-70 count in Athens, easily winning outright as 4.5-point underdogs as the Over (159) connected.
  3. It’s all Over all the time for both of these sides. The Over is 30-12-1 in the past 43 for Arkansas, dating back to last season, and 16-5 across their past 21 road matches. The Over is 8-3 in the past 11 for the Gamecocks at CLA, and 18-6 in their previous 24 overall.

Arkansas at South Carolina: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Arkansas 83, South Carolina 66

Money line (ML)

Arkansas (-350) will cost you three-and-a-half times your potential return, and that’s just too expensive, even against a conference punching bag like South Carolina (+260).

PASS.

Against the spread (ATS)

ARKANSAS -6.5 (-120) has been red-hot lately, hearkening back to the days of Nolan Richardson and his “40 Minutes of Hell” for the Razorbacks. This team is fun, up-tempo and, more importantly, they’re ticking off covers on a regular basis. They’re 8-1 ATS across the past nine, while South Carolina +6.5 (+100) is just 1-4 ATS in the previous five despite their upset win last time out.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 156.5 (-110) wagers in Arkansas games was risky business around the holidays, as they were on a 7-0-1 Over run from Dec. 12-Jan. 13. However, it’s been Under tickets cashing in Hogs games lately, going 3-0 in the past three, and 7-4 in the past 11. While Carolina is on a 5-1 Over run, that’s mainly due to their poor defense. Their offense isn’t very good and will struggle against the ranked Hogs.

Arkansas at Florida: Three things to know

  • Arkansas QB Feleipe Franks will get a chance to face his former team Saturday. He was with Florida from 2016-2019. He has thrown 14 touchdowns and three interceptions for the Razorbacks this season.
  • Florida TE Kyle Pitts is questionable to play on Saturday, but he’s proven to be one of the best tight ends in college football. Through five games, he has scored eight touchdowns and is averaging an absurd 17.3 yards per reception.
  • Florida has one of the best offenses in college football and is averaging 42 points per game this season. The Gators are fifth in the nation in passing yards with an average of 369 yards per game.

Arkansas at Florida: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Florida 45, Arkansas 14

Money line (ML)

Florida is a big money line favorite in this game after an impressive 44-28 win against Georgia last week. The Gators have now won nine-straight home games, but there just isn’t enough value here to take the Gators on the money line.

Arkansas has lost nine of its last 10 games to Florida and just doesn’t have the same talent level as the Gators. PASS on the money line in favor of the point spread.

Against the spread (ATS)

FLORIDA -17.5 (-110) is a three-score favorite. The Gators have NFL talent all over their offense and can score at will. Arkansas’ defense can create some turnovers and that is the only way it can stay in this game; however, look for Florida to score into the 40s and cover this spread with ease.

Over/Under (O/U)

The total for this SEC matchup is set at 61.5 points and that feels a bit high considering some of the struggles the Razorbacks have had on offense this season. Florida will need to do almost all of the heavy lifting in order for the Over to hit. While the Gators could certainly score into the 50s, if needed, don’t be surprised if the UNDER 61.5 (-115) hits in the swamp.

Tennessee at Arkansas odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s Tennessee Volunteers at Arkansas Razorbacks sports betting odds and lines, with college football betting picks, tips and predictions.

The Tennessee Volunteers (2-3 overall, 2-3 SEC) and Arkansas Razorbacks (2-3, 2-3) square off Saturday in an SEC cross-over battle between two teams looking to get to .500. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. ET at Razorback Stadium in Fayetteville, Ark. We analyze the Tennessee-Arkansas college football betting odds and lines, with picks and best bets.

Tennessee at Arkansas: Betting odds and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Thursday at 8:51 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Tennessee -118 (bet $118 to win $100) | Arkansas +100 (bet $100 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Tennessee -1.5 (-110) | Arkansas +1.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 52.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Tennessee at Arkansas: Three things to know

  1. Tennessee has lost three straight games — straight up and against the spread — after starting the season 2-0. The Volunteers’ combined ATS margin over their trio of setbacks is a whopping minus-53.
  2. Arkansas DB Hudson Clark has three interceptions in 2020. The Razorbacks rank second in the nation with 10 interceptions, and they are tied for third in the country with 13 total takeaways.
  3. The Vols offense has gotten off schedule more frequently than it desires. Compounding that issue thus far has been a shaky performance on third downs. Tennessee owns a third-down conversion rate of just 26.1%. Among teams that have played more than two games, only three teams have posted a worse figure.

Tennessee at Arkansas: Odds, prediction, betting lines and picks

Prediction

Tennessee 28, Arkansas 24

Money line (ML)

Tennessee (-118) has the more solid recruited talent base, and there are some fade-worthy aspects to the Razorbacks’ support peripherals (a bit of turnover luck and perhaps more field-position tilt than has been earned, etc.). The Vols are a decent play against the number (see below), but a tag of -115 or better would make for a solid ML play as well. Consider a PARTIAL-UNIT PLAY ON TENNESSEE.

Against the spread (ATS)

Some of the analytics measuring what these teams do in the trenches are a substantial lean toward TENNESSEE (-1.5, -110) in this matchup. If the Vols can avoid being a minus-2 or worse in turnover margin, get a little more production in the big play department and avoid early-down misfires, they can cover with room to spare. There are plenty of ifs there, but on balance, the risk-reward has some value. BACK TENNESSEE TO COVER.

Over/Under (O/U)

The projected game flow here is a bit cloudy and several scenarios closely bracket the total as is. PASS.
