This was a tough weekend for Michigan State football fans who watched the Spartans fall at home to Rutgers in a sloppy game. This might put more salt in the wound, but in the lastest Amway Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY, a few MSU rivals made a jump in the rankings.

Here are some of the key changes in the poll:

  • Ohio State jumped two spots after a 52-17 beatdown of Nebraska.
  • Wisconsin moves up to No. 11 after a blowout win over Illinois.
  • Penn State drops 10 spots after being upset by Indiana. In turn, Indiana jumped 32 spots to make it to No. 19 overall.
  • Michigan jumps to No. 14 after beating Minnesota.

Oklahoma back into Amway Coaches Poll at No. 24

The Oklahoma Sooners are back into the Amway Coaches Poll at No. 24 after their win over TCU on Saturday.

Oklahoma picked up a decisive 33-14 win over the TCU Horned Frogs on Saturday to put them back above .500 at 3-2 on the year.

The Sooners’ reward is a spot back into the top 25 of the Amway Coaches Poll at No. 24.

Oklahoma had been receiving votes even after the 1-2 start, so it’s no surprise that the back-to-back wins over Texas and TCU was enough to lift them back into the rankings. Losses from Virginia Tech, Minnesota and North Carolina State certainly helped.

Clemson remains the top team after their win over Syracuse. Rounding out the top five is Alabama, Ohio State, Notre Dame, and Georgia. Other Big 12 teams in the rankings include Oklahoma State at No. 6, Kansas State at No. 16, and Iowa State at No. 23.

Next up for a Oklahoma will be a date with unranked Texas Tech in Lubbock on Halloween night.

Despite not having taken the field yet this season the Wisconsin Badgers continue to rise in the national rankings.

In the newly-released Amway Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports the team rose one spot to No. 14 in the nation, still slotted as the No. 3 team in the Big Ten behind Ohio State and Penn State.

Big movers in the poll include North Carolina dropping seven spots to No. 13, Coastal Carolina shooting up into the rankings and Auburn falling out of the top-25 after their loss at South Carolina.

The Badgers are now five days away from opening their season at home against the Illinois Fighting Illini, beginning the quest for their first conference championship since 2012.

If we’ve seen one thing so far this season its been sloppy play, blown coverages and questionable decision making. If there’s one year where the most buttoned-up programs will find success it’s this one. Yes, one of those well-coached, well-prepared teams are the Wisconsin Badgers.

Ohio State still steady in latest Amway Coaches Poll as game week awaits

Ohio State remained steady in the Amway Coaches Poll that was just released. The good news is that next week, there’s game film to look at.

It’s clear that pollsters are waiting to see Ohio State put out some real, live game film. Ever since the Buckeyes re-entered the major polls after the Big Ten reinstated the season back in September, teams have jostled about while OSU remains right around No. 5 and No. 6.

And so it is with the latest release of the Amway Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports as Ohio State remains at No. 5.

In fact, despite Georgia getting publicly flogged in the second half by Alabama, the Dawgs remain ahead of OSU, at No. 4 — only dropping one spot in the poll. The top ten now consist of Clemson (1), Alabama (2), Notre Dame (3), Georgia (4), Ohio State (5), Oklahoma State (6), Penn State (7), Florida (8), Texas A&M (9), and Cincinnati (10).

The good news? It’s game week for Ohio State folks. That means the next time these zany polls come out, there will be something to look at for Big Ten teams. We expect a pretty good showing by the Bucks, so stay tuned.

Good news for the Florida Gators in latest Amway Coaches Poll

Florida’s game vs LSU was postponed but UF still managed to hop up a spot in the latest Amway Coaches Poll while many of the SEC saw a slide

The Florida Gators got some good news on Sunday despite sitting the weekend out — and next weekend as well — due to a coronavirus outbreak on the team. According to the latest update to the Amway Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports, UF moved up one spot from No. 9 to No. 8 after college football’s Week 7 action.

Three other Southeastern Conference teams sit in the latest top-10, including Texas A&M, who jumped two spots to take the No. 9 position right behind the Gators. Despite a loss to the second-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide, the Georgia Bulldogs dropped only one notch to No. 4 — switching places with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish — giving the SEC two of the top-4 teams in the nation.

However, this past weekend was otherwise a tumultuous one for the conference’s middle-of-the-pack teams, with the Auburn Tigers and the Tennessee Volunteers dropping from No. 14 and No. 17, respectively, out of the polls, leaving the league with only the four aforementioned member schools in the top-25.

The complete rankings from Week 7 of college football play are posted below.

Alabama continues to hold No. 2 spot in Amway Coaches Poll

Alabama remains at No. 2 in the latest edition of the Amway Coaches Poll, powered by USA TODAY Sports. There were 4 SEC teams in the top 25.

Following another wild weekend of college football, Alabama continues to hold strong at the No. 2 spot in the latest Amway Coaches Poll, powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Alabama got its biggest win of the 2020 season on Saturday, as the Crimson Tide handed Georgia a 41-24 loss. As impressive as it was, it didn’t help Alabama jump Clemson for the top spot.

To be fair, the Tigers did give a thrashing to ACC foe Georgia Tech, who was defeated by a margin of 67 points (73-7). But Alabama did slightly close the gap as far as first place votes. The split was 55-5 in Clemson’s favor prior to this weekend, but following the win against Georgia, it now sits at 52-8.

Still a large gap, but it’s at least moving in the right direction. Here is how the rest of the Coaches Poll shook out on Sunday morning.

1. Clemson
2. Alabama
3. Notre Dame
4. Georgia
5. Ohio State
6. Oklahoma State
7. Penn State

18. Iowa State
19. Kansas State
20. Virginia Tech
21. Minnesota

There were only SEC teams left who are in the top 25 following another crazy week of college football. Tennessee and Auburn both dropped out.
