Rams NT Bobby Brown (knee) ruled out vs. Giants

Bobby Brown suffered a knee injury in the first half and is questionable to return

Bobby Brown III missed time earlier this season due to an MCL injury, and in the first half against the Giants, he banged up his knee again. Brown exited the game in the first half and is now questionable to return.

Brown has been the team’s starting nose tackle this season, playing alongside Aaron Donald and Kobie Turner along the defensive line. If he’s out for any amount of time, it would be a big loss for the Rams’ run defense.

UPDATE: The Rams ruled out Brown at the start of the third quarter, so he will not return.

Watch: Bobby Brown is Rams’ ultimate hype man in the best mic’d-up video of 2023

We promise Bobby Brown’s mic’d-up video from Week 16 is the best one you’ll see all year

Each week, the Los Angeles Rams mic-up one player for their game. In Week 16 against the New Orleans Saints, it was Bobby Brown III’s turn.

The big defensive tackle has a big personality and it absolutely showed in the mic’d-up video shared by the Rams this week. He was the team’s ultimate hype man, cheering on the offense from the sideline and being left in awe of plays made by Demarcus Robinson, Matthew Stafford and others.

“Good catch, Demarcus! But oh my god, Stafford!” Brown yelled.

Of all the mic’d-up videos the Rams have released this year, Brown’s is undoubtedly the best. He had the sideline dancing after Robinson’s touchdown, chanting “Go Demarcus! Go Demarcus! Go Demarcus!”

Here are a few highlights from the video, which are sure to put a smile on your face this Christmas.

Rams activate Bobby Brown III off injured reserve

The Rams have officially activated Bobby Brown III off injured reserve

In addition to getting Matthew Stafford, Ernest Jones and Rob Havenstein back from injury this week, the Los Angeles Rams will also have Bobby Brown III available.

Brown has been on injured reserve since hurting his knee earlier this season, causing him to miss four games. He’s officially been activated off IR, so he’s eligible to play Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks.

Brown is the biggest defensive lineman on the team, playing significant snaps at nose tackle before getting injured. Kobie Turner has done a nice job filling in but Brown’s return will allow Turner to move around more and play his more traditional position of 3-technique.

Before getting injured, Brown had 13 tackles with one of those being for a loss.

Raheem Morris speaks on what Bobby Brown brings to the Rams’ defense

Raheem Morris discussed what Bobby Brown III brings to the defense if he’s available for the Rams in Week 11.

The Los Angeles Rams lack size on the interior of their defensive line right now, but it could be getting a key member back in Week 11. Ahead of a showdown with the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, Raheem Morris discussed what Bobby Brown III brings to the defense if he’s available for the Rams.

“Hopefully he’s back into the lineup,” Morris said. “What he misses from us is that big powerful man in the middle of the defense that really shows you power and the guy that’s been here training for the last three years and the fruits of his labor were really starting to show. And then he had the unfortunate injury, so getting him back means a lot for us and a lot for our unit. He’s one of the ‘young veterans,’ so to speak, and it is really nice when he’s out there and nice to get him on the grass and nice to get his smiling face out there playing with his guys and doing some really positive things.”

Brown has been sidelined since Week 5 due to a knee injury he sustained against the Philadelphia Eagles. Before suffering the injury, Brown had 13 combined tackles and one tackle for loss.

The third-year interior defender became the starting nose tackle for the Rams this season following the departure of Greg Gaines in free agency. While he hasn’t provided much in the pass-rushing department, Brown at least gives the Rams a formidable run defender in the trenches.

All signs point toward Brown making his return to the lineup this week as he’s logged full practices on Wednesday and Thursday. Getting Brown back would be a welcomed sight for the Rams as the Seahawks prefer to lean on Kenneth Walker and rookie Zach Charbonnet in the ground game.

Rams designate NT Bobby Brown III to return from IR

Bobby Brown III has been designated to return from injured reserve and will begin practicing this week

The Los Angeles Rams hope to welcome back Matthew Stafford, Ernest Jones and Rob Havenstein from injury this week when they host the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday afternoon, but they could get back a key defensive lineman, too.

The Rams announced on Monday that Bobby Brown III has been designated to return from injured reserve and has returned to practice. Brown has been out since injuring his knee in Week 5 against the Eagles on Oct. 8 and was expected to miss 5-7 weeks.

Kobie Turner has done a great job filling in and playing more snaps at nose tackle with Brown out, but there’s no doubt Los Angeles will be excited to get Brown back, with him being the biggest defender on the team.

Before going down, Brown had 13 tackles and one tackle for a loss in five games played.

The Rams now have 21 days to activate Brown from IR. If he’s not activated in that timeframe, he’ll remain on IR for the rest of the season.

Kobie Turner, Jonah Williams will see more snaps amid Bobby Brown’s absence for Rams

Raheem Morris said Kobie Turner and Jonah Williams will replace Bobby Brown III during his stint on IR.

The Los Angeles Rams recently placed Bobby Brown III on injured reserve because of a knee injury he suffered in Week 5 versus the Philadelphia Eagles. Given that Brown is going to miss an extended period, Raheem Morris indicated that rookie Kobie Turner and Jonah Williams will see more snaps for the Rams.

“Tough, man. I think Bobby Brown’s playing really well, playing at a high level for us, but we’ve been fortunate to have Kobie go out there and really play some stuff for us and Jonah, obviously those guys can play some of the reps for us,” Morris said. “Obviously, we’re able to split some of those Kobie and Bobby reps based on base and some of the bigger structures and we’re able to get Kobie rest to get him in some of the small structures and also spell him in. But we’ll definitely rely heavier on Kobie and some of those younger guys that we have, (Larrell) ‘Murch’ (Murchison) is playing at a high level for us. We’ve had Jonah out there playing really well for us so we’ll get some snaps from those guys a little bit extra, be able to do it that way.”

Turner has already seen a decent number of snaps this season, primarily from the interior on obvious passing situations. The rookie defensive lineman has logged 13 combined tackles and one sack while playing on 55 percent of the defensive snaps for the Rams.

Seeing that Turner doesn’t have the size of Brown at nose tackle, Morris wants to split snaps between Turner and Williams. Williams has seen most of his snaps at defensive end, but he’s more of a run stopper than a pass rusher along the defensive front.

Morris also mentioned Larrell Murchison as a player the Rams could deploy more to prevent Turner and Williams from being locked into the nose tackle role. The Rams are allowing 4.3 yards per attempt (11th-most in the NFL) this season, and that could get worse with a lack of size at nose tackle until Brown returns.

Even though the Rams could address the position at a later point, they currently want to replace Brown in-house with a mixture of Turner, Williams, and others.

Rams place Bobby Brown III (knee) on injured reserve

The Rams put Bobby Brown III on injured reserve with a knee injury that will keep him out 5-7 weeks

Sean McVay told reporters on Monday that Bobby Brown III suffered an MCL sprain that will keep him out 5-7 weeks. He suffered the injury in Sunday’s loss to the Eagles and had to be carted off the field.

McVay thought it might be a season-ending injury initially so the diagnosis was actually better than expected. That being said, Brown is still out a while and the Rams are now thinner on the defensive line.

To open up a roster spot, they placed Brown on injured reserve, which will force him to miss at least the next four games. It was an obvious move for the Rams to make, knowing he’ll likely be out even longer than that.

McVay said on the “Coach McVay Show” this week that he isn’t sure if the team will look for outside help on the defensive line or if they’ll stay internal, but that’s something they’re working through.

5 defensive linemen Rams could sign with Bobby Brown III out

If the Rams are looking for defensive line help with Bobby Brown III out, they could consider signing one of these five players

The Los Angeles Rams suffered a significant blow to their defensive line this weekend when Bobby Brown III sprained his MCL against the Philadelphia Eagles. It’ll sideline him for 5-7 weeks, Sean McVay says, which makes him almost certain to land on injured reserve.

The Rams’ defensive line was already lacking size, with Brown being the biggest player up front at 324 pounds, so they could be looking for help. If they’re considering signing a free agent, these five players are potential targets for the Rams – all of whom would come relatively cheap.

On a smaller D-line, Rams’ loss of Bobby Brown III is a big one

The Rams’ defensive line was already lacking size, and now they’ve lost their biggest defender in Bobby Brown III

The Los Angeles Rams came into the season with a much smaller defensive line than they’ve had in recent years. Following the departures of A’Shawn Robinson and Greg Gaines, the unit up front lost not only two key players, but two of their largest players, too.

At 324 pounds, Bobby Brown III was the only defensive lineman over 300 pounds to start the season and in Sunday’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, their starting nose tackle went down with a knee injury. Brown is expected to miss 5-7 weeks with an MCL sprain, leaving the Rams without their space-eating defensive lineman.

Nose tackles don’t often rack up big numbers on the stat sheet and you might not think Brown was having a very productive season considering he only has 13 tackles and no sacks. However, his loss is a big one for the Rams, both literally and figuratively.

According to Pro Football Focus, Brown is the Rams’ fourth-highest-graded player on defense this season with a grade of 68.9. His run-defense grade of 66.6 is eighth-best on the team and his three total pressures are tied for the seventh-most.

The biggest concern with Brown out is a lack of size on the interior when it comes to defending the run. The Rams have Kobie Turner, who’s also gotten snaps at nose tackle, but only 46 compared to Brown’s 109. He’s also 36 pounds lighter than Brown and 2 inches shorter, so he doesn’t bring quite the same bulk to the interior of the line. Aaron Donald is the only other player to get snaps as a true nose tackle on defense this season.

If the Rams don’t plan to sign a true nose tackle to replace Brown, what they may have to do is make Turner a full-time nose tackle and give a player like Larrell Murchison more snaps at defensive tackle in place of Turner. That’s certainly not ideal, which emphasizes how big a loss Brown is for this group.

Fortunately, it wasn’t a season-ending injury like the Rams feared, but even being without Brown for 5-7 weeks will be a tough blow, especially with teams such as the Cowboys, Packers and Seahawks coming up on the schedule – teams that have talented running backs.

Sean McVay says Bobby Brown’s knee injury ‘didn’t look good’

Sean McVay provided an update on Rams’ Bobby Brown after he suffered a knee injury in Sunday’s loss to Eagles.

The Los Angeles Rams suffered a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, and they took a hit to their defensive line in the process. Bobby Brown exited Sunday’s game with a knee injury and Sean McVay revealed in his post-game presser that he doesn’t believe the team will receive a positive update on the interior defender.

“With Bobby Brown, it didn’t look good with his knee,” McVay said.

Brown first sustained an elbow injury early in the game, but he would return for the Rams. Sadly, he would then suffer a knee injury late in the fourth quarter, forcing him to be carted off of the field.

Following the departure of Greg Gaines in free agency this past offseason, Brown has emerged as the starting nose tackle for the Rams this season. Before sustaining his knee injury, Brown had tallied 13 tackles and one tackle for loss this season.

With Brown waiting for a diagnosis on his knee ailment, rookie Kobie Turner and Larrell Murchison could see increased snaps at nose tackle. And there’s a chance the Rams could make a move for another nose tackle given the lack of size the team has in the interior.

Even with McVay’s comments, we are hoping for the best when it comes to Brown’s knee injury.
