Report Card: Grading Alabama’s 30-24 win over Ole Miss

Grading Alabama’s 30-24 win over Ole Miss.

The 2022 season has been quite the roller coaster ride for [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] and the Alabama Crimson Tide. After yesterday’s matchup with Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss, six of the Tide’s nine contests have gone down to the final possession.

Unlike last week in Baton Rouge, Alabama was able to make the necessary plays late in the matchup on both sides of the ball to come away with a victory.

Bryce Young played better than he has the last couple of weeks, and some other players on the offense stepped up and helped make an impact in the contest.

Defensively, the Tide did what they needed to do and got the stops they needed to get.

Let’s take a look at how the Crimson Tide graded out in their road win over No. 11 Ole Miss.

First…the offense…

Report Card: Grading Alabama’s 32-31 overtime loss the LSU

Grading Alabama’s agonizing 32-31 overtime loss to LSU.

Another undisciplined performance on the road by Alabama led to another loss by the Crimson Tide, this time at the hands of the LSU Tigers.

Head coach [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] can’t seem to get through to this team about consistency in performance and playing intelligent and situational football.

[autotag]Bryce Young[/autotag] and the Alabama offense did not have their best performance and the Alabama defense did not finish the game strong which led to the upset in Death Valley.

Now with two losses, Alabama is likely out of the mix to win the SEC West and a potential birth in the College Football Playoff.

Let’s take look at how the Crimson Tide graded out in their Week 10 performance.

Report Card: Grading Alabama’s 30-6 win over Mississippi State

Grading Alabama’s 30-6 win over the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

After Alabama dropped a road game to Tennessee in Week 7, the Crimson Tide have their backs against the wall and are in a must-win situation for the remainder of the season.

The Tide’s first test came against Mike Leach and the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Saturday night, and [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] and Alabama took care of business at home, 30-6.

Alabama’s effort was not always pretty, but it was enough to cover the three-touchdown spread. Still, there are areas the Crimson Tide will need to improve on as they head into the BYE week.

Let’s take a look at how Alabama graded out this week.

First, the offense:

Report Card: Grading Alabama’s excruciating loss to Tennessee

Grading Alabama’s 52-49 loss to the Tennessee Volunteers.

It was a game for the ages in Knoxville on Saturday, and, in an offensive clinic, the Tennessee Volunteers upset the Alabama Crimson Tide, 52-49.

Both teams raced up and down the field to the tune of 101 combined points and more than 1,100 yards of offense.

Despite 17 penalties, [autotag]Bryce Young[/autotag] kept the Crimson Tide in the game with his spectacular play and magician-like ability in the pocket to give the Tide a chance to win it at the end, but place kicker Will Reichard’s kick sailed wide right.

On the ensuing possession, Hendon Hooker led the Vols down the field, setting up the game-winning 40-yard field goal as time expired.

Let’s take a look at how Alabama graded out in all three phases against the Vols.

Report Card: Grading Alabama’s 24-20 win over Texas A&M

Alabama somehow survived a four-turnover performance to get a 24-20 win over Texas A&M. Let’s take a look at how the Crimson Tide graded out on Saturday night.

Alabama did about everything they could do to lose Saturday night’s matchup with Texas A&M. Turnovers and missed scoring opportunities nearly cost the Tide against the Aggies.

Crimson Tide head coach [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] mentioned in his postgame press conference that the team would need to play better if they had any hopes of being successful next weekend when his team travels to Knoxville to take on the Tennessee Volunteers.

Each week here at Roll Tide Wire we dish out our grades on all three phases of the game for Alabama and it is now time to see how the Tide faired against Texas A&M.

Report Card: Grading Alabama’s impressive road win over Arkansas

Despite losing start QB Bryce Young, the Alabama football team was able to solidly defeat the Arkansas Razorbacks 49-26. Let’s take a look at the Crimson Tide’s report card for Week 5.

Alabama football coach [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] has to be pleased with the resiliency his team showed on Saturday afternoon. The Crimson Tide would lose its star quarterback [autotag]Bryce Young[/autotag] early in the contest and would weather the storm of a third-quarter surge by the Razorbacks to defeat Arkansas 49-26.

The Alabama offense would need to lean on the ground game in the second half with the absence of Young and the offensive line and the backs delivered.

[autotag]Jahmyr Gibbs[/autotag] broke two touchdown runs of 70+ yards in the fourth quarter to seal the victory for the Tide. Backup quarterback [autotag]Jalen Milroe[/autotag] also had a run of 77-yards on a long third down to set up a touchdown for Alabama.

Defensively it was a bit of an up-and-down day, but to be fair they were put in some unfortunate circumstances on a couple of occasions in the third quarter.

Now that we have had time to digest the victory, let’s take a look at this week’s report card for the Crimson Tide.

First…the offense…

Report Card: Grading Alabama’s commanding win over Vanderbilt

Alabama completely dominated Vanderbilt on Saturday night with a 55-3 victory. Let’s take a look at the Crimson Tide’s report card for Week 4.

The Alabama football team started the 2022 SEC play off with a bang with a completely dominating victory over the Vanderbilt Commodores on Saturday night, 55-3.

The Crimson Tide offense, led by quarterback [autotag]Bryce Young[/autotag], put together what I believe to be the most complete performance of the season while [autotag]Will Anderson[/autotag] and the Alabama defense continues to show how stout they are after only surrendering a field goal against the Commodores.

Head coach [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] believes that his team is improving each and every week but understands greater challenges are ahead on the schedule.

Let’s take a look at this week’s report card for the Crimson Tide.

First…the offense…

Report Card: Grading Alabama’s dominating win over ULM

Alabama handled business on Saturday with a 63-7 win over ULM. Let’s take a look at the Crimson Tide’s report card for Week 3.

Alabama did precisely what they were supposed to do on Saturday completely dominating the ULM Warhawks 63-7. While the performance was not perfect, the Crimson Tide would score in various ways, including one on defense and two from the special teams unit.

Head coach [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] has to be pleased with the effort the team came out with jumping out to a 28-0 lead after the first quarter. But in the second quarter, the Tide would lose a little bit of its intensity.

Any time you can hang a 60 burger you have to be pleased but there is still plenty of areas the Crimson Tide will need to improve on.

Let’s take a look at this week’s report card.

First…the offense…

Report Card: Grading Alabama’s narrow win over Texas

Alabama narrowly escaped Austin on Saturday with a win over Texas. Let’s take a look at how the Crimson Tide graded out in Week 2.

You could hear the collective sigh of relief from Crimson Tide fans when Will Reciahrd’s 33-yard field goal sailed through the uprights with just 10 seconds left to give Alabama a 20-19 lead over Texas on Saturday.

Despite 15 penalties and inconsistent play on both sides of the ball, Alabama was able to escape Austin with a win over the pesky Longhorns to improve to 2-0 on the young season, but with a lot of questions left to answer.

Now that we have all had time to reflect on Saturday’s performance, it is time for our weekly edition of the Alabama Report Card where we grade all three phases of the Tide’s previous contest.

Report Card: Grading Alabama’s dominating Week 1 win over Utah State

Alabama handled Utah State with ease on Saturday night. Let’s take a look at how the Crimson Tide graded out in Week 1.

In a completely one-sided contest, [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] and Alabama dominated Utah State on Saturday night to the tune of 55-0.

[autotag]Bryce Young[/autotag] led things offensively for Alabama which didn’t seem to miss a beat despite losing its leading rushing and top two receivers from 2021.

Defensively the competition level may have not been what the Tide will see in the coming weeks, but anytime you can shut out an opponent you have to feel good about your defense.

Utah State head coach Blake Anderson had nothing but positive things to say about the 2022 version of the Crimson Tide. In his postgame press conference, Anderson had this to say about Alabama:

“So, I don’t want to point fingers anywhere. We physically got out-matched most of the night. I’m sure we made some mistakes, but they weren’t glaring. … We got beat by a better football with a lot of great athletes.”

Anderson’s compliments are not that surprising considering how well Alabama played right out of the gate. So, without further ado let’s get to the Week 1 report card for the Crimson Tide.
