Alabama WR John Metchie III will likely miss College Football Playoff with knee injury

John Metchie suffered a knee injury that will likely take him out for the CFP

Alabama has been able to reload at wide receiver every season with some impressive young, new faces. Last season, that new face was John Metchie III. Now, in his junior season, he’s essentially a co-WR1 with Jameson Williams. However, his season has more than likely come to an end with a knee injury.

According to ESPN’s Mark Schlabach, the team fears Metchie tore his ACL in a non-contact injury late in the first half against Georgia in the 2021 SEC Championship game.

After the game, Saban addressed the injury and stated that the injury will lead to more guys getting in-game looks at wide receiver.

True freshman Ja’Corey Brooks was the star of the Iron Bowl and saw a healthy amount of playing time against the Bulldogs in Atlanta. Other names too look out for are Traeshon Holden and Agiye Hall.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to cover the Crimson Tide and share updates on Metchie’s status as more information becomes available.

Alabama’s offensive stats heading into the BYE week

Here is a closer look at Alabama’s offensive stats as the Tide head into the BYE week.

Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide currently sit ranked at No. 3 with a 7-1 overall record and a 4-1 record in the SEC.

Now that the Tide has entered into its BYE week, I thought it was a good time to take a closer look at some of the team and individual stats on both sides of the football.

Today we look at the offensive side of the ball. Let’s get right to it!

First …team stats…

Alabama football position preview: Wide receivers

Alabama is loaded with young talent at wide receiver.

Now that we have completed the defensive side of the ball in our position previews, we shift our focus to the offensive side. Today we will look at the wide receivers.

Let’s get started!

Alabama football: 5 freshmen to watch

Here are the 5 freshmen you should be keeping a close eye on this fall!

August has finally arrived, which means the college football season is just around the corner.

Alabama will begin fall camp in just a few days and with each new season, opportunities are presented for some of those talented first-year players to make an early name for themselves.

With all that being said, I thought it would be a good time to compile a list of a handful of freshmen that I will be paying extra attention to in camp. These are guys who could have an impact almost immediately, in no particular order.

Let’s get started, shall we?

Alabama Football Recruiting: Top 10 pass-catcher signees of Nick Saban era

Alabama has signed an absurd of amount of pass-catching talent during the Saban era! Here are some of the best:

Alabama has a history of signing top wide receiver talent dating back to when Nick Saban arrived in Tuscaloosa. When the well-respected coach managed to land Julio Jones in the 2008 cycle, it changed everything when it came to the way top pass-catching talent viewed the program.

Things have been rolling ever since, including this most recent recruiting class when Alabama signed one of the greatest pass-catching classes of all time. Of the top 10 receivers in the 2021 class, the Crimson Tide signed four of them, including yet another five star.

Just a few years ago, Saban landed a trio that would all eventually turn into first-round draft picks, so this isn’t anything new. The program has been littered with pass-catching talent for years now, but who are the absolute top recruits they’ve signed at the position?

Below is a compiled list of the top 10 pass-catching talent — including wide receivers and tight ends — since 2007, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. There are names on there ranging from Saban’s first recruiting class all the way to his most recent.

Enjoy!

Honorable mention: JoJo Earle (2021); DeVonta Smith (2017); Marvin Shinn (2011); Christian Leary (2021)

Projecting Alabama’s Post-Spring Offensive Depth Chart

Here are the offensive depth chart projections for the Alabama football team following spring practice.

The Alabama A-Day Game took place this past Saturday, which means spring practice has officially come to an end in Tuscaloosa. The White team won 13-10, but there are way more important takeaways

There were some injuries that kept us from seeing certain guys participate in the spring, but we now have a much better idea for how the depth chart will look come fall camp opening up in August.

Once again, these are projections come from Roll Tide Wire. Like always, we’ll start with the offensive side of the football. Do you agree or disagree with the following list and its order?

Breaking down Alabama’s 2021 commitments: WR Agiye Hall

Four-star wide receiver Agiye Hall is the next man up on Roll Tide Wire’s list of breaking down Alabama’s 2021 recruiting class.

After a rocking start, the Alabama Crimson Tide is steadily climbing up the recruiting rankings for the 2021 class. As things stand, that class is 25th (No. 7 in the SEC) according to 247Sports and 28th (No. 8) according to Rivals.com.

With eight commitments, Roll Tide Wire decided to break those pledges down player-by-player for you. Next up on the list is wide receiver Agiye Hall out of Valrico, Florida.

Agiye Hall, Wide Receiver

Height: 6-3 / Weight: 190

High School: Bloomingdale High School, Valrico, Florida

Ranking (247Sports comp): 4-star / No. 70 overall / No. 11 WR / No. 12 FL

Ranking (247Sports): 4-star / No. 97 overall / No. 12 WR / No. 14 FL

Ranking (Rivals): 4-star / No. 115 overall / No. 17 WR / No. 11 FL

Ranking (ESPN): 4-star / No. 57 overall / No. 6 WR / No. 12 FL

Analysis: Agiye Hall isn’t like some of the other wide receivers who have recently found success in Tuscaloosa. At 6-foot-3, 190 pounds, his length automatically separates him from Jerry Jeudy, Henry Ruggs III, DeVonta Smith and Jaylen Waddle.

He doesn’t win the same way either. His route-running is still a work in progress, but Hall does have the ability to stretch defenses vertically with a combination of his length and deep speed. He does an excellent job of going up and making tough, contested catches.

The need for a strong receiver class for 2021 cannot be overstated with the losses — ones that have happened and ones that are expected to happen — at the position, Hall will be needed, maybe even immediately.

WATCH: 2021 Alabama WR commit hilariously claims backup QB job

Alabama four-star wide receiver commit Agiye Hall out of Bloomingdale (Fla.) jokes about being Bryce Young’s backup on Twitter.

Bloomingdale High School standout receiver Agiye Hall committed to Alabama back in mid-April, and while he’s eventually supposed to be catching passes from Tide quarterbacks, he also wouldn’t mind being one.

On Saturday, Hall jokingly tweeted out a video of him throwing a pass to a teammate while also saying that he wouldn’t mind being Bryce Young’s backup in Tuscaloosa:

The caption says “don’t worry bama we got the top guy @_bryce_young and me at back up just in case”, which got plenty of reaction from fans and others on social media.

While it was obviously a joke, Hall actually throws a good pass and maybe even proved to Alabama coaches that he’s capable of doing some sort of trick play in the future if asked.

Hall is rated as a four-star prospect, according to the 247Sports composite rankings, while also checking in at No. 70 overall, the No. 11 wide receiver and the No. 12 player from the state of Florida.

Georgia Bulldogs WR target Agiye Hall makes commitment

The Georgia Bulldogs made the top four of elite wide receiver Agiye Hall, but it wasn’t enough. Hall committed to the Alabama Crimson Tide.

The Georgia Bulldogs made the top four of elite wide receiver Agiye Hall, but it wasn’t enough to secure his commitment. Hall committed to the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Hall is a four-star prospect who plays high school football at IMG Academy. He has good size at 6’3″.

Agiye Hall, who is a member of the class of 2021, committed to Alabama via Twitter:

Hall announced his top four schools: Georgia, Arizona State, LSU, and Alabama via Twitter in March. Hall re-opened his recruitment to all schools, but rolled with the Crimson Tide in the end.

Agiye Hall trains and plays at an elite high school football program in IMG Academy. He is a solid route runner. Look at this route to demonstrate his abilities:

Hall doesn’t tip his route very much and gains lots of separation in this case. He should be a playmaker for Alabama fro years to come. He’s a great commitment for Nick Saban and the always loaded Crimson Tide.

Despite a dead period in recruiting, players are still making commitments. Kirby Smart and Georgia have recently seen a couple of commits of their own. Georgia additionally has several other wide receiver targets in the class of 2021.

For the second day in a row, Nick Saban and Alabama added another member to its 2021 recruiting class.
