Former Alabama TE Jahleel Billingsley set to sign with the CFL’s Calgary Stampede

Former Alabama TE Jahleel Billingsley headed to the CFL

Former Alabama and Texas tight end, Jahleel Billingsley, is set to sign a contract with the CFL’s Calgary Stampede where he will primarily play as a wide receiver and potentially kick returner. Billingsley was not selected in the 2023 NFL Draft and did not sign with any teams as an undrafted free agent so he will head to Canada to continue his football career. The news was initially reported by On3’s Matt Zenitz.

Billingsley was quite productive for Alabama as he accumulated 37 catches for 559 yards and six touchdowns. He spent the first three years of his collegiate career with the Crimson Tide (2019-2021) before entering the transfer portal and following former Alabama offensive coordinator, Steve Sarkisian, to the Longhorns. In four games with Texas, Billingsley had three receptions for 38 yards and no scores. He entered the draft after his lone season in Texas (2022).

At both Alabama and Texas it seemed as if Billingsley and his coaching staff couldn’t get on the same page, but he has all of the talent in the world. With high production in the CFL, he may entice an NFL team to take a chance on him next offseason. I also think that making the position change to WR is very good for him.

Former Alabama players Jahleel Billingsley and Chadarius Townsend were recently drafted in the 2023 XFL Rookie Draft.

Former Alabama players Chadarius Townsend and Jahleel Billingsley were drafted in the 2023 XFL Rookie Draft on Friday.

Townsend was drafted by the Seattle Sea Dragons and Billingsley was drafted by the San Antonio Brahmas.

In order for Townsend and Billingsley to have been eligible for the draft, both players had to be eligible for the April NFL Draft and not under contract to any other team.

Billingsley spent three seasons at Alabama before transferring to Texas for his senior season. Billingsley struggled to stay on the field for the Longhorns due to off-the-field issues.

Over the course of his college career, Billingsley hauled in 40 receptions for 597 receiving yards and six touchdowns.

Townsend spent three seasons as a reserve running back at Alabama. Upon transferring to Texas Tech in 2020, Townsend played both running back and wide receiver. As a Red Raider, Townsend had 28 carries for 164 yards and one touchdown. He also had three receptions for 23 yards.

The two will look to forge a path for themselves in the XFL. Several players in the past have done so and received opportunities in the NFL. It will be interesting to see how the two perform at the professional level.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow former Alabama football players at the professional level.

Former Alabama TE makes decision regarding his future

Jahleel Billingsley spent three seasons at Alabama before transferring to Texas. He recently declared for the 2023 NFL draft, according to On3’s Matt Zenitz.

After a tumultuous college career, former Alabama tight end Jahleel Billingsley will officially be entering the 2023 NFL draft. The news was first reported by On3’s Matt Zenitz.

Billingsley spent three seasons in Tuscaloosa. The native of Chicago, Illinois hauled in 37 catches for 549 receiving yards and six touchdowns with the Tide. He played in 36 games during his time at Alabama.

After transferring to Texas, Billingsley saw minimal playing time. He was suspended for the first six games of the season for violating team rules. Following the suspension, he was still unable to have a meaningful impact on the Longhorns’ offense. He hauled in just three receptions for 38 receiving yards.

Now, Billingsley is slated to attempt to play at the next level. With off-the-field issues and limited playing time, it will be difficult for Billingsley to be drafted. However, he could make an NFL team’s roster. That will be answered in May of 2023.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Billingsley’s career as well as other Alabama football news.

Report: Texas TE Jahleel Billingsley to declare for 2023 NFL Draft

Jahleel Billingsley is expected to enter the NFL Draft.

Texas tight end Jahleel Billingsley is expected to declare for the 2023 NFL Draft, according to On3 Sports. He will not play in Texas’ Alamo Bowl matchup against Washington.

Billingsley played in just four games for Texas this season after transferring in from Alabama. He caught three passes for 38 yards as a Longhorn.

Playing time was sparse for Billingsley after facing a six-game suspension to start the season for a violation of team rules. Ja’Tavion Sanders grabbed hold of the starting job by the time Billingsley was able to get into the rotation.

Texas’ tight end unit remains in good shape despite the loss of Billingsley.

Ja’Tavion Sanders returns after a breakout season. Gunnar Helm and Juan Davis are options Steve Sarkisian speaks highly of behind Sanders in that spot. In addition, the Longhorns have two talented incoming freshmen to add quality depth to the room.

Former Alabama TE Jahleel Billingsley no longer with Texas football program

Former Alabama tight end Jahleel Billingsley is no longer at Texas, according to reports.

On Thursday, Inside Texas reported that former Alabama tight end Jahleel Billingsley was no longer a part of the Texas football program. Billingsley was suspended for the first six games of the season. He ends his Longhorns career with six receptions for 38 receiving yards.

In his three seasons in Tuscaloosa, Billingsley hauled in 37 receptions for 559 receiving yards and six touchdowns. He was a key contributor alongside current Alabama tight end Cam Latu. The two got the majority of the snaps at the tight end position in 2021.

It is unclear as to why Billingsley is no longer a part of the team. However, he still retains one year of eligibility because of a free COVID year. It will be interesting to see the route that he chooses to take in the future.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Billingsley’s career as well as other former Alabama players in the transfer portal.

Texas tight end Jahleel Billingsley raises offensive ceiling this week

Steve Sarkisian could give Iowa State a taste of their own multi-tight end medicine this week.

The Texas Longhorns have been potent offensively, averaging just under 39 points per game. The offensive production to this point might be the tip of the iceberg.

Last week, Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers showed little rust in his first game back from injury. More help could be on the way this week. Alabama transfer Jahleel Billingsley appears to be on his way to returning following a six-game suspension. His skillset makes the Longhorns even more dangerous.

Billingsley’s strength comes as a receiver, though he could be a more capable blocker than some believe. Xavier Worthy, Jordan Whittington, Ja’Tavion Sanders and Bijan Robinson have proven to be more than capable weapons as pass catchers this season. For that reason, if the talented transfer takes the field he could find himself wide open.

Iowa State is arguably the toughest test the Texas offense will face in conference play. Albeit, Billingsley makes the Longhorns an equal challenge for the Cyclone defense. The dynamic receiver could be returning at the perfect time.
