Former Michigan State football LB Aaron Brule comments on flurry of MSU transfers

Former Michigan State football linebacker is very familiar with the transfer portal process, using it himself to join Michigan State from his original home at Mississippi State. But, that doesn’t mean he’s a fan of what he has been seeing around the MSU program this week.

Brule, who is currently set to join the New Orleans Saints at their rookie mini-camp, took to social media to give his thoughts on the situation regarding multiple Michigan State players choose to enter the portal to presumably find a bigger NIL contract for themselves.

The subtext, and implication here, which MSU insider Justin Thind also hinted at below, is that these players are being not just influenced, but heavily pushed by ‘agents’ to continuously try to renegotiate their NIL deals or threaten to enter the transfer portal.

Some of the players we have seen enter the portal this week from Michigan State have already renegotiated their deals, only to come back when this last portal round opened to try and threaten for more money. Without a collective bargaining agreement or a contract, this is completely fair game, although it is probably not what is best for the program or the player. But hey, it is great for the agents who are swooping in to grab easy commission checks by changing the future lives of their young clients.

For some of these players, they will be leaving a great situation at Michigan State, a school in a premiere conference, surrounded by an experienced, proven staff that has developed innumerable NFL players as a collective, to go chase a ‘bag’ at a school that might not even be a good fit for them. It’s sad to see.

Brule joins a number of Spartans who have found landing spots in the NFL through rookie mini-camps.

Another Spartan has found success with the Saints as an undrafted free agent, as Andrew Dowell has played special teams for New Orleans for the last few seasons.

The Spartans will be getting Aaron Brule back for one more season

Michigan State football already got their leading pass rusher from 2022 back for the 2023 season when Jacoby Windmon announced he would return for another season, and now they will get another of their sack leaders back in the fold, as linebacker Aaron Brule announced his return to the team on Tuesday.

Brule, who was a transfer from Mississippi State, had 4 sacks last year to go along with 30 tackles for MSU.

Check out which Spartans were named to the Senior Bowl watch list:

The Senior Bowl is a big event every year, capping off the college football season while showcasing the senior’s talents one last time collegiately. This is also a great opportunity for the seniors that are invited to showcase themselves in front of NFL franchises ahead of the NFL Draft.

Ahead of the 2022 season, eight Spartans were featured on the Senior Bowl’s watch list as possible candidates to be invited to this year’s Senior Bowl.

Every early enrollee for Michigan State football heading into spring ball

Who is early enrolling at MSU? Find out here:

Spring ball is vastly approaching East Lansing. The importance of spring football is significant, as it will lay the groundwork for the program heading into the summer as well as training camp.

Another key piece of spring ball is getting every new player acclimated to their new school. The importance of this has been amplified by the transfer portal and the immediate impact transfers can make on a program.

Also, if true freshmen want to get on the field, early enrolling and playing spring ball is a major step towards achieving that goal.

Let’s take a look at the 14 players, transfers and freshmen, that are early enrolling at MSU:

Check out how the transfer portal is shaking out for MSU in 2022

As many know, the transfer portal is set to be a huge part of Mel Tucker’s tenure at Michigan State. The new era of college football is centered around the use of the transfer portal. Tucker used the portal to flip a roster from a 2-5 season in his first year to an 11-2 season in year two, mainly in part to the additions through the transfer portal.

The transfer portal should be viewed as another form of recruiting, as a team will have two ‘recruiting classes’ per year, the traditional high school class and a transfer class.

Transfers do work both ways, while the team will add multiple players through the portal, losing players to the portal will also become a reality every season.

Take a look at how Michigan State’s 2022 transfer portal, both incoming and outgoing, looks like:

One week ago, Mississippi State linebacker Aaron Brule announced that he was entering the NCAA transfer portal. Today, he is a Spartan, committing to Michigan State football on Twitter.

Brule, a former 3-star safety, has become one of the better linebackers in the SEC and some thought, before this past season, that he could make the jump to the NFL sooner rather than later. A down season halted that decision, but he will get a fresh start with another MSU team that has turned to the transfer portal to fill out their depth at the linebacker position.

Brule joins Jacoby Windmon from UNLV as new additions to the roster.

Michigan State football hosting Mississippi State LB transfer on official visit

Michigan State is hosting a Mississippi State LB transfer today

To little surprise, Michigan State has been very active in the transfer portal this offseason. This past weekend the Spartans hosted UNLV LB transfer Jacoby Windmon and Florida DE transfer Khris Bogle on official visits. Today, the Spartans will be hosting Mississippi State linebacker transfer Aaron Brule on an official visit.

Brule was thought to be an NFL draft pick this off-season, but after a tough 2021 season, he is in the transfer portal looking for a big bounce back in 2022.

It is apparent the Spartans are looking for more help at linebacker and on the defensive side of the ball as a whole. It would not surprise me if Brule and MSU make some noise very quickly in this recruitment.
