Emmanuel Flowers is transferring to Samford University

Emmanuel Flowers came to Michigan State from Chino Hills, California, in the 2017 recruiting class. The Spartans beat out the UCLA Bruins to gain the late signing day commitment from Flowers. He has been a member of the Spartans program for the last 5 seasons before deciding to transfer. Flowers has made the decision that he will be transferring to Samford University, an FCS school in the Southern Conference.

In his Michigan State career, Flowers was a three-year letter winner that appeared in 30 games totaling 7 tackles.

As many know, the transfer portal is set to be a huge part of Mel Tucker’s tenure at Michigan State. The new era of college football is centered around the use of the transfer portal. Tucker used the portal to flip a roster from a 2-5 season in his first year to an 11-2 season in year two, mainly in part to the additions through the transfer portal.

The transfer portal should be viewed as another form of recruiting, as a team will have two ‘recruiting classes’ per year, the traditional high school class and a transfer class.

Transfers do work both ways, while the team will add multiple players through the portal, losing players to the portal will also become a reality every season.

This is going to be a busy week for the transfer portal. As the regular season concludes, a host of new transfers will be hitting the NCAA transfer portal, and that will include yet another Michigan State football defensive back in fifth year senior Emmanuel Flowers.

Flowers will follow fellow Spartan DB Michael Dowell in the portal.

Flowers played in 11 games this season, mostly at the nickel corner position,

and he logged three tackles on 83 snaps.
