It appears Michigan State is getting close to landing a huge prospect in the 2022 class.

Three different recruiting insiders with 247Sports put in crystal ball predictions on Monday that state Michigan State will land four-star defensive lineman Alex VanSumeren of Essexville, Mich.

Stephen Brooks, Justin Thind and Corey Robinson — who collectively have been wrong only once on 54 of their 2022 crystal ball predictions — each pegged VanSumeren to pick Michigan State. His brother, Ben, is also a Spartan after transferring from Michigan this offseason.

VanSumeren is ranked as the No. 27 defensive lineman and No. 179 overall prospect in the 2022 class by 247Sports. He is also ranked as the No. 4 player in the state of Michigan for the class.

He currently holds scholarship offers from numerous power programs, including Alabama, Clemson and Texas A&M. So if the Spartans are able to actually land VanSumeren, it would be arguably the best recruit new head coach Mel Tucker has gotten so far.

Keep an eye on his recruitment as a big announcement could be coming soon.

One of the top prospects in the state of Michigan has listed the Spartans in his top 10 list.

Alex VanSumeren — a four-star defensive tackle from Essexville, Mich. — revealed his top 10 schools on Tuesday morning, and Michigan State made the list. The Spartans are joined by Alabama, Clemson, Texas A&M, Penn State, Indiana, Oregon, Arizona, Auburn and Nebraska.

Report: Michigan State building ‘good relationship’ with 4-star DT Alex VanSumeren

MSU is reportedly one of a handful of schools that is building a “good relationship” with 2022 four-star defensive tackle Alex VanSumeren.

[mm-video type=video id=01f2pav0x1m3h4yep3a7 playlist_id=01eqbz825g32p3akwt player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01f2pav0x1m3h4yep3a7/01f2pav0x1m3h4yep3a7-220dbd1cb0cca8f7968f4c0f736468bc.jpg]

Michigan State is reportedly one of a handful of schools that is building a “good relationship” with 2022 four-star defensive tackle Alex VanSumeren.

Allen Trieu of 247Sports recently connected with one of Michigan’s top recruits, and VanSumeren made note of a few programs in particular that are building a strong relationship with him, which included the Spartans. Clemson, Alabama and Texas A&M were the other schools mentioned in a tweet from Trieu.

VanSumeren — who is from Essexville, Mich. — is ranked as the No. 15 defensive tackle and No. 224 overall prospect in the class of 2022.

The VanSumeren name may be familiar to Michigan State fans because his older brother Ben VanSumeren is also a Spartan. Ben transferred from Michigan to Michigan State in February, but that apparently won’t affect his young brother’s college decision.

Trieu responded to a question regarding his brother’s recent transfer playing a role in where Alex VanSumeren will end up, and it apparently is “not going to be a deciding factor.”

Alex VanSumeren is a huge priority for the Spartans in the 2022 class, and this will be one prospect fans will need to keep an eye on. Anytime you’re battling the likes of Clemson, Alabama and Texas A&M for a recruit, you know he’s a huge priority and would be a great get for the Spartans.

MSU Football lands former Michigan LB Ben VanSumeren from transfer portal

Former Michigan LB Ben VanSumeren entered the transfer portal after three seasons in Ann Arbor. He will now be heading to Michigan State.

[jwplayer mKgJ519R]

Michigan State has added another new Spartan from the transfer portal, earning the commitment from Ben VanSumeren. VanSumeren will be transferring from in-state rival Michigan.

A member of Michigan’s 2018 recruiting class, from Essexville, Michigan and Garber High School and rated as a high 3-star.

VanSumeren has seen time as a starting linebacker at the SAM position in Ann Arbor, as well as a starting fullback. He will be coming to Michigan State as a linebacker who will excel at supporting in the run game.

VanSumeren’s younger brother, Alex, is also a priority recruit for Mel Tucker’s staff. Alex is a 4-star defensive tackle and is somewhat expected to follow his brother Ben. Let’s see if Mel Tucker can close out that recruitment in the Spartans favor.

Ben VanSumeren will be a great addition to help retool MSU’s defense and is an experienced linebacker, which is a position the Spartans desperately need some depth.
