247Sports ranks toughest NCAA schedules; does Ohio State football make the cut?

Ohio State football plays in the Big Ten, one of the most challenging conferences, and it will have one of the roughest remaining schedules.

Ohio State football has yet to play a ranked team.

While the Iowa Hawkeyes were ranked earlier in the season and the Buckeyes blew them out 35-7 Saturday at Ohio Stadium, they weren’t a top-25 side heading into the conference matchup.

The Buckeyes early-season schedule weakness was a well-documented point made by critics as they blew through their first three games without a Power 5 opponents.

Over the next month, fans will finally start to see what this team is made of.

They’ll have so much competition coming up that 247Sports ranked their schedule as the five-touchest one in college football, noting they play four ranked opponents in the next few months.

Here’s what columnist Brad Crawford said on Ohio State football’s upcoming schedule. Crawford ranked Ohio State’s upcoming games as the fifth-toughest schedule in the country.

“Those clamoring about Ohio State’s weak schedule thus far better go into hiding based on the second half of the season. The Buckeyes go to Oregon this weekend, travel to Penn State on Nov. 2 and endure the double-whammy of Indiana and Michigan over the final two weeks of the campaign. Considering their No. 2 in the AP Poll at this junction, Ohio State is in great position to reach the playoff by simply winning 10 games. However, that’s likely not going to be enough to get in the Big Ten title game, which is another priority for this team given Michigan’s reign,” Crawford wrote.

The Oregon Ducks, Michigan Wolverines, and Washington Huskies also cracked the top-ten toughest schedules. Two of those three opponents the Buckeyes will face before the end of the calendar year.

That said, the Buckeyes will square off with the No. 3 Ducks Saturday, their first real challenge of the season. Let’s hope their dominant ways continue in what should be a rowdy and chaotic environment in just a few short days.

Wisconsin listed in top 10 of 247Sports’ future rankings

The Badger Football team was ranked as the 10th best team in 247Sports’ 2025 college football rankings Thursday.

The Badger football team was ranked as the 10th-best team in 247Sports’ 2025 college football rankings on Thursday. Fueled by the addition of head coach Luke Fickell, Wisconsin appears to be on its way to the top in the next couple years.

With Fickell at the helm, the Badgers have brought in top coordinators Phil Longo (offense) and Mike Tressel (defense), which led to the acquisition of some of the top transfers and recruits in program history.

Class of 2024 four-star quarterback Mabrey Mettauer (The Woodlands, Texas) is among the many athletes the team has reeled in since Fickell took over in November. He is expected to lead the offense for multiple years.

Examining where Texas ranks in one early Big 12 prediction

One Big 12 standings prediction puts Texas football atop the conference.

College football writers are taking notice of the Longhorns’ loaded returning roster. 247Sports writer Kevin Flaherty joined Athlon Sports in predicting Texas to finish first in the Big 12 conference.

The more we read of Texas as the clear cut favorite to win the league, the more it sets up as an evaluation year for Steve Sarkisian and company. The vibe is like that of the 2020 offseason, where Texas returned senior quarterback Sam Ehlinger and an experienced and talented roster.

Obviously, Sarkisian has plenty more time left on his contract and has a strong chance to coach the full duration. Nevertheless, we could have a good idea of how the tenure will go after this season.

The talent advantage paired with the returning production is such that missing the conference title would be tantamount to fumbling on the one-yard line. The reference to the 2020 game between Texas and TCU was not intended, but is an apt comparison.

Texas needs to win the Big 12 this season. Here’s a look at Flaherty’s Way-Too-Early Big 12 standings prediction.

The national college football analysts at 247Sports believe Michigan State is one of the top 15 teams in the country exiting spring ball

The national college football analysts at 247Sports believe Michigan State is one of the top 15 teams in the country exiting spring ball.

247Sports released their post-spring rankings earlier this week, and Michigan State remained as one of the top teams on the list. The Spartans came in at No. 13 in the updated rankings, dropping a few spots from their previous rankings.

Here’s a bit of what Crawford had to say about the Spartans:

“The Spartans piled up players in the transfer portal and hope veteran leadership on offense can help replace the production of Doak Walker winner Kenneth Walker and his obvious impact in the ground game.”

Michigan State came in as the third highest-ranked Big Ten team behind only Ohio State (No. 2) and Michigan (No. 9).  Iowa (No. 21) was the lone other Big Ten team to be ranked.
