Top wide receivers in the transfer portal as of Wednesday

The wide receiver talent in the transfer portal is loaded.

Wide receiver is a position Texas is expected to pursue in the transfer portal.

Xavier Worthy and Jordan Whittington served as the only two Texas wideouts who provided any consistent play. With Whittington unlikely to return and not many proven pieces behind him, Texas needs to find some playmakers in the portal.

The good news for Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns is the transfer portal is loaded with talent at the wide receiver position. If Texas can add some experienced talent with the young guys they already have on the roster, the wide receiver unit has the chance to be great next season.

Here is a look at some of the top pass catchers who have entered the portal according to 247Sports’ rankings.

Top uncommitted players available in the transfer portal

Plenty of talent is still available in the transfer market.

The NCAA transfer portal provides college coaches with a new way to build and construct their rosters during the offseason. With the new one-time transfer rule, players are moving around at a higher rate than ever.

Several of the biggest names in college football have already found new homes. Caleb Williams (Oklahoma), Travis Dye (Oregon) and Mario Williams (Oklahoma) all made their way to USC. Alabama raided the state of Georgia by snagging running back Jahmyr Gibbs (Georgia Tech) and Jermain Burton (Georgia).

Texas used the transfer portal to their advantage by totally revamping the offensive side of the ball. Former five-star quarterback Quinn Ewers (Ohio State) made his way back to the Lone Star State to play for Steve Sarkisian’s Longhorns. Ewers is joined by talented pass catchers Isaiah Neyor (Wyoming), Agiye Hall (Alabama) and Jahleel Billingsley (Alabama).

Plenty of talent is still available in the transfer market. The 2021 Biletnikoff award winner, Jordan Addison, entered the portal early this week. Here are 247Sports’ top 10 uncommitted players remaining in the portal.

Where Texas’ transfers rank in 247Sports portal rankings

Quinn Ewers and Jahleel Billingsley both ranked inside the top 15 players in the transfer portal.

The transfer portal has quickly become a new element of college football. With players having the ability to go from one school to another with no punishment, we have officially reached college football free agency.

Texas has used the portal to their advantage this offseason. The Longhorns have added multiple talented players from the portal in an effort to improve upon an ugly 5-7 season.

Landing former five-star quarterback Quinn Ewers from Ohio State was huge for Steve Sarkisian. Ewers is a great fit for what Sark wants to do of offense and will compete for the starting job from day one.

Ewers was not the only former Buckeye that Texas picked up this offseason. Defensive back Ryan Watts decided on coming home to the state of Texas after two seasons of limited playing time at Ohio State.

Most recently Texas added a weapon to its offense in Alabama transfer Jahleel Billingsley. Texas lost their top two tight ends due to graduation and the portal. Billingsley is the most experienced player Texas has brought in and will reunite with his former play-caller, Steve Sarkisian.

Here is where each new Longhorn ranked in 247Sports transfer portal rankings:

Three Spartans listed in 247Sports’ Top 100 transfers rankings

Three new Spartans are ranked amongst the top 100 transfers in the country, according to 247Sports.

Three new Spartans are ranked amongst the top 100 transfers in the country, according to 247Sports.

Clint Brewster of 247Sports outlined his top 100 transfers from this offseason, and three incoming transfers for Michigan State cracked his list. Those three Spartans are:

  • No. 79 – RB Kenneth Walker III (from Wake Forest)
  • No. 82 – LB Quavaris Crouch (from Tennessee)
  • No. 98 – LB Itayvion Brown (from Minnesota)

On the flip side of that, none of the many Spartans that have left the program through the transfer portal made this list. So that would suggest Michigan State has experienced quite some success in adding talented players via the portal while not losing any true key contributors.

I personally believe Walker and Crouch could be higher on this list based on the type of production they had at their previous schools. But it’s still impressive and nice to see these three guys recognized amongst the top 100 transfers in the country.
