7 Eagles who could be first time Pro Bowlers in 2021

An updated look at 7 Philadelphia Eagles with the best chance of making their first Pro Bowl in 2021

With the second half of the NFL season rolling full speed ahead, the NFL just announced the opening of Pro Bowl voting all across the league, and the Eagles had 27 players land on the ballot.

Miles Sanders was a shocking omission, but this talented team could have several first-time Pro Bowlers if Philadelphia can make a late playoff run.

Below is a look at seven Eagles who could get the nod.

Zero Jets selected to Pro Bowl despite Mekhi Becton leading fan vote for AFC tackles

The Jets had no players selected to the 2021 NFL Pro Bowl.

The Jets were shut out of the 2021 NFL Pro Bowl.

New York didn’t have a single player selected to this year’s all-star exhibition. The last time the Jets didn’t have a player voted to the Pro Bowl was in 2017, when the New York finished 5-11 under head coach Todd Bowles.

The Jets are one of five teams with zero Pro Bowl nods. The Jaguars, Bengals, Cowboys and Panthers are the other four.

Jets rookie left tackle Mekhi Becton led all AFC offensive tackles in fan voting but was not selected for the Pro Bowl. The fan vote counts for one-third of the selection.

Becton laughed when he found out he didn’t make it.

Quinnen Williams was another Jet with a strong case.

The Jets did have three former players selected to the Pro Bowl, though. Seahawks safety Jamal Adams, Seahawks fullback Nick Bellore and Bills returner Andre Roberts all made it. This will be Adams and Roberts’ third Pro Bowl and Bellore’s first.

The NFL Pro Bowl game will not take place this season due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. It was supposed to be held in Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. Instead, the NFL will hold a virtual event on Jan. 31.

Ravens LB Chris Board leads Pro Bowl voting for special teams

Despite having so many well-known players having solid seasons, it’s reserve linebacker Chris Board that leads the Pro Bowl voting.

The Baltimore Ravens put in a record number of players to the Pro Bowl last season, so it should be expected a handful will be invited once again this year. As of right now, the one player seemingly most on track to punch his ticket to the game is linebacker Chris Board, who leads all Pro Bowl fan voting for special teams — the only Baltimore player doing so at any position, holding 99,542 votes.

While the Ravens haven’t quite been as great as expected this season, they certainly haven’t had a bad season. After beating the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, Baltimore currently holds a 9-5 record and is making quite the push for a playoff spot in these final weeks. As such, we’ve seen some pretty stellar individual performances this season, including cornerback Marlon Humphrey, linebacker Patrick Queen, quarterback Lamar Jackson, and offensive tackle Orlando Brown Jr.

If Board carries through and earns a Pro Bowl nod, it’ll be his first. Board was signed as an undrafted free agent following the 2018 NFL Draft. He was expected to fight for a starting spot last year but was ultimately relegated to special teams following Week 4. This season, with the Ravens selecting Queen and Malik Harrison in the 2020 NFL Draft, Board was once again buried on the depth chart and started this season almost exclusively on special teams. But in recent weeks, Board has been getting more playing time on defense, culminating in getting a 62% snap share on Sunday.

With a great, young linebacker corps as the core of their defense, Baltimore looks like they’ve got a touch of the old school on the roster. And despite being the lesser-known of the group, Board certainly has enough fans out there.

Pro Football Focus predicts 3 Washington players to make 2021 NFL Pro Bowl

The official 2021 NFL Pro Bowl rosters come out next week, but PFF predicts that three players in Washington will make the cut.

The NFL is set to announce the final Pro Bowl rosters for 2021 next week, and while there is a bunch of criteria and metrics that the league uses to determine who makes the cut, as well as a healthy weight on fan voting via social media, a lot of true football fans have a problem with how the players are decided.

Pro Football Focus has come out this week and developed their own way of creating the Pro Bowl rosters, using their own player grades for the season to determine who makes the cut. For Washington fans, this has resulted in three players from D.C. being named to the team, which is set to play a virtual Madden 21 game due to the coronavirus pandemic on January 31st. These are the guys who made it:

  • RG Brandon Scherff
  • DE Chase Young
  • DT Jonathan Allen

Those are all great nominations, and fans can be happy that they have some solid representation on the roster. However, it’s fair to feel like a number of players were snubbed, including the following:

  • WR Terry McLaurin
  • P Tress Way
  • C Chase Roullier
  • DE Montez Sweat
  • DT Daron Payne
  • CB Kendall Fuller

Of course, despite how much we would love to see it, you can’t stack the Pro Bowl roster with a bunch of players from what is at the moment a below-.500 team. What will be interesting to see is how much the actual Pro Bowl roster differs from what PFF put together based on their player grades. We will find out in a few day’s time.

NFL announces the 2021 Pro Bowl will be played in Las Vegas

2021 NFL Pro Bowl to be played in Las Vegas

The NFL is proceeding with the 2020 NFL season and as the Raiders make the move to Las Vegas, the league is rewarding fans by moving the 2021 Pro Bowl to Vegas as well.

The move signals the end of the NFL’s deal with Orlando while moving the league’s all-star showcase into a new state of the art venue.

Last season the Eagles had five players selected to 2020 Pro Bowl and six if you include Darius Slay who made it with the Lions.

The 2021 Pro Bowl will take place in Las Vegas at the Raiders’ new home of Allegiant Stadium on Jan. 31.
