Seahawks will face many decisions in free agency this offseason

The Seattle Seahawks will face many decisions in free agency in the 2020 offseason following their playoff loss to the Green Bay Packers.

The Seattle Seahawks have many decisions to make regarding their impending free agents following their season-ending, divisional-round loss to the Green Bay Packers. There are quite a few dominoes waiting to fall in March.

Jadeveon Clowney may be the most notable unrestricted free agent, but Jarran Reed, Mychal Kendricks, Al Woods, Quinton Jefferson, and many others also have expiring deals. There are also restricted free agents such as Jacob Hollister and David Moore for Seattle to take into account and possibly offer tenders to.

The Seahawks also have key players like Chris Carson and Shaquill Griffin entering contract years, potentially putting them in line for contract extensions if Seattle wishes to keep them for the long-term future. And of course, they will have to cope with the losses of certain free agents, as no team can keep everyone and players may seek out bigger paydays from different teams.

And then there is the matter of who the Seahawks decide to bring in. The team should possess around $40 million in cap space for next season, and they could use that to re-sign some key free agents or sign notable players from other teams.

The Seahawks will have their work cut out for them this offseason if they wish to remain competitive next season.

Mike McCarthy is the new head coach of the Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys have their man, as they’ve reportedly agreed to terms with the former Packers head coach.

The Dallas Cowboys appear to have their man. After interviewing only two candidates for their opening, the team seems to be on the verge of hiring their replacement for Jason Garrett.

That man appears to be former Green Bay Packers head coach and Super Bowl winner Mike McCarthy, who is informing other teams he interviewed with (Cleveland, New York) that he is out of the running for their positions. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the two sides are currently in contract talks. and now according to Fox’s Jay Glazer the sides have agreed to terms.

Garrett was dismissed on Sunday night, after being in limbo for a week as reports circulated he was asking the Cowboys to keep him in mind until they found a suitable replacement. In comes McCarthy, who was scheduled to meet with Dallas on Thursday, but opted to wait until the weekend for his visit. His one-day visit turned into two and it was clear there was interest on both sides.

McCarthy comes with a Lombadri trophy and  West Coast offense, having worked with both Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers. He sat out of football in 2019 after being removed by the Packers brass for failing to make the playoffs his final two years. He’s been to four NFC championship games and has a career .618 winning percentage.

The Cowboys also interviewed Marvin Lewis, former head man of Cincinnati. He may also be in line as a possible defensive coordinator, where he made his mark in Baltimore before rehabilitating a moribund Bengals franchise.

Ranking Texas’ 2020 Games In Level Of Importance

The schedule has its pros and cons, but should be in favor of Texas. Here is the 2020 schedule ranked game by game in order of importance:

The 2020 season is one of the most important seasons Texas has had in a long time. After a poor 2019 season, Head Coach Tom Herman was given another opportunity to show himself. Hiring new offensive and defensive coordinators after the season, if nothing changes on the field, changes could be made off the field.

The best quarterback the Longhorns have had since Colt McCoy is expected to be back for his senior season. Gaining Heisman hype both in 2019 and more than likely in 2020, Sam Ehlinger is going to need to be the man for Texas.

Mix in all of the other returning talent for the squad and this is the year to put it all together. The schedule has its pros and cons, but should be in favor of Texas, getting most of their big conference games at home.

Here is the 2020 schedule ranked game by game in order of importance:

Eight thoughts on the 2020 schedule

The dominant Alamo Bowl victory has fans everywhere excited about Texas next season. Here are eight thoughts about the 2020 schedule.

Ending the year on a positive note, Texas defeated Utah in the Alamo Bowl in convincing fashion. Much like last season, the dominant bowl victory has fans everywhere excited about the 2020 season and what the Longhorns could possibly accomplish.

Here is what the Texas schedule looks like:

09/5 – USF

09/12 – @ LSU

09/19 – UTEP

09/26 – BYE

10/3 – @ Kansas State

10/10 – Oklahoma (Dallas)

10/17 – West Virginia

10/24 – @ Texas Tech

10/31 – Baylor

11/7 – @ Kansas

11/14 – TCU

11/21 – Iowa State

11/28 – @ Oklahoma State

Here are eight thoughts on the 2020 football schedule:

The Georgia Bulldogs are your 2020 Sugar Bowl champs – Quick thoughts

Georgia football is the Sugar Bowl champions after beating Baylor in New Orleans.

Georgia is undefeated in the new decade.

The Dawgs moved to 12-2 on the season and 1-0 in 2020 after defeating No. 7 Baylor 26-14 in the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans.

Things were just clicking on Wednesday night against a Bears defense that is one of the best in the country.

But with 10+ key players sitting out the game, Georgia still came to play. After an embarrassing defeat last year, Kirby Smart made sure that the players who actually wanted to be there were ready for it.

Despite the fact that this was essentially an exhibition game, the win leaves Georgia fans with a nice feeling about things to come.

Recruiting is not over, and I’m sure Georgia targets were impressed by how the Dawgs played.

Speaking of recruiting, the Dawgs have a few big ones coming up this week. 5-stars Zach Evans (RB) and Darnell Washington (TE) will be making their announcements live during the the Under Armour All-American Game on Thursday. Coverage will begin at 6 p.m. on ESPN2.

Looking to next year, we saw a few players who are sure to make a big impact in 2020.

Zamir White took 18 carries for 92 yards. Kenny McIntosh, a freshman, took six carries and looked good as well. It will be interesting to see how they are used next year when Kendall Milton and possibly Evans come to town.

And then there was George Pickens, who was named MVP of the game. Pickens, a true freshman, hauled in 12 passes for 175 yards and a touchdown.

When interviewed, Pickens said “my offensive line is amazing. My quarterback is amazing.”

He then continued to praise his team.

“Put the camera on all these guys. I love them to death.”

Let’s talk about junior safety Richard LeCounte for a second. He receives a decent amount of unwarranted criticism on Twitter, but #2 is an absolute baller. His jersey number matched the amount of interceptions he had on Wednesday night. His NFL decision is unknown at this point, but we will have an answer on that shortly I’d assume.

As for Jake Fromm, the junior threw 30 passes, completing 20 of them for 250 yards, 2 touchdowns and no interceptions. When asked about what his future holds after the game, Fromm did not hint at whether or not he’s staying at Georgia. Instead, he praised God and his teammates. We will have to wait on that one.

D’Andre Swift is viewed as the No. 1 running back in this draft class by ESPN’s Todd McShay. We do not know what he’s going to do, but everyone expects Swift to turn pro. But what he did do was make the trip to New Orleans with his teammates. He was nursing a shoulder injury, but played through as much as he could.

After the game, Kirby praised the junior tailback for his dedication and for what he does off the field.

Kirby was clearly emotional about this win. Following the game, passion was pouring out of the former Bulldog as he hoisted the Sugar Bowl trophy with confetti flying.

Kirby called a great, aggressive game. He was aggressive on defense, pulled out some trickery on a flea flicker and a fake field goal.

James Coley was also on his game. He was willing to adapt, call outside run plays and get his best available players into a spot where they were able to succeed.

With the 2019 season officially over for Georgia, we look ahead to a 2020 that will see the Dawgs open with Virginia in Atlanta.

In week three, UGA travels to Tuscaloosa in what will surely be the game of the season at that point.

And Auburn, which complained about its schedule enough that the SEC finally did something, will be coming to Athens in early October rather than November.

Georgia vs Florida will be played on Halloween night in Jacksonville.

The South Carolina and Tennessee games will both be played in November, which will be an odd change of pace. Those games are typically in the first half of the year.

I predict 11-1, with the only loss coming to Alabama.

Dawgs vs Bama in the SEC Championship.

We’ll see….

Ranking the top Georgia football wins of the decade: #10

UGA Wire ranks the Top 10 Georgia football wins of the decade

In honor of the start of 2020 Wednesday, we decided to put together a list of the Top 10 Georgia football wins from the past decade.

Starting from the top at number ten, we have the 2013 Georgia-Georgia Tech game at Bobby Dodd Stadium in Atlanta. Though the national stakes may have been low for this one, the Bulldogs’ epic come-from-behind 40-34 win to keep a road win streak against the Jackets alive was incredible.

Todd Gurley ran for 122 yards and three touchdowns while Hutson Mason helped pace the Dawgs with 299 yards and two scores of his own, leading to a fifth-straight state championship victory.

Here’s a short highlight clip to help you relive that thrilling double overtime game.

7 2019 teams that missed the playoffs that could make some noise in 2020

The Cowboys and Rams could find themselves back in the playoffs in 2020, but there are some surprise teams that could make a run.

There are only 12 teams that need to look forward to the remainder of this season. Every other team is making major changes and already planning for 2020. Every year, new teams come out of nowhere to make the playoffs when they missed it the year before. This year we saw five teams make the playoffs after missing it the previous season — Buffalo, Tennessee, San Francisco, Minnesota, and Green Bay — and that’s average turnover when it comes to NFL playoff teams.

A quick caveat, there’s still a lot of things that need to happen. Cleveland doesn’t even have a general manager or head coach as of now — yes they made the list — and teams could make moves in free agency or the draft. It’s still fun to throw out some guesses.

Steve Deace, who mainly covers the Big Ten conference, wrote a piece predicting the outcome of every bowl game Big Ten teams are involved in – this includes Michigan as they’ll take on Alabama in the Citrus Bowl.

Deace predicts a Crimson Tide win over the Wolverines with a final score of 45-31.

He goes on to explain his thought process behind the score prediction and how he thinks the flow of the game will go:

“This will be a high-scoring game on a fast track,” says Deace, “The Wolverines have the experience and firepower to exploit what’s been at times a pedestrian defense by traditional Nick Saban standards. On the other hand, I don’t give Michigan’s secondary much of a chance in man coverage against arguably the greatest receiving corps in college football history. The other big edge in the game is Alabama’s imposing offensive line against a quick, agile, but undersized Michigan defensive front. Expect Najee Harris to gash Don Brown in the running game.”

Deace’s argument about the Alabama receiving corps giving the Michigan secondary problems is valid, as they allowed, on average, 170 passing yards per game; whereas Alabama had roughly 345 passing yards per game.

However, the passing game isn’t the only factor when comparing Nick Saban’s offense to Jim Harbaugh’s defense. With Tua Tagovailoa out and Mac Jones playing, Alabama may look to utilize their weapons out of the backfield a little more.

Alabama averaged 170 rushing yards per game, with most of those coming from Najee Harris, and Michigan allowed 120 yards per game in the 2019 regular season.

It seems like what Deace is trying to highlight is that the 2019 Citrus Bowl will come down to if Michigan’s defense will be able to stop Mac Jones, who is looking to impress, and a handful of skill position players who are trying to improve their already first round draft grades.

The 2020 VRBO Citrus Bowl will be played in Orlando, Florida on Jan. 1 and it can be watched on ABC at 1:00 p.m. ET.

Star Alabama linebacker, Dylan Moses, announced via Instagram that he will be announcing his decision on entering the NFL Draft or staying for his Senior season after the VRBO Citrus Bowl.

Alabama will be taking on Michigan in the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Florida on Jan. 1, but it is unlikely we will see Moses on the field due to the ACL tear he suffered in the pre-season.

Moses, who was slated to be not only a huge key to this Crimson Tide defense, but also a leader and a captain, is still considered to be a first round projection in the 2020 NFL Draft

It is not hard to find Moses’ name in the first rounds of analysts’ mock drafts as CBS and NBC both project him to be selected in the first round.

Roll Tide Wire will keep you updated on all things Alabama football news including updates on Moses and his decision to stay or leave Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide.
