Who will be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft? The odds are out from BetMGM, and here’s our ranking from best values to worst.

Who will be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft? The odds are out from BetMGM, and here’s our ranking from best values to worst.

Contact/Follow @ColFootballNews | @PeteFiutak

We already know who the No. 1 overall pick is going to be in the 2021 NFL Draft, right? Sure we do … just like we knew last year at this time that fifth-round prospect Joe Burrow was going to turn into the must-have top pick overall.

Just like we knew that a quarterback smaller than your sister would end up being the top overall selection in 2019. And before Kyler Murray went to Arizona, it’s not like anyone had any idea that Baker Mayfield would somehow by the top overall pick for Cleveland in 2018.

This is hardly the slam dunk you might think it is.

BetMGM is out with its initial lines for the first overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Here’s our ranking from the worst value on up to the best of the bunch.

One quick note before we start. The Field isn’t an option. If it was, that would be the No. 1 choice here. And why? Again, Burrow, Murray, and Mayfield.

Here are all of the 30 prospects listed with the lines to be the top pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

30. WR Rashod Bateman, Minnesota

The hype will be huge coming off a fantastic 2019, but just getting close to the first round in a deep class of of wide receivers would be strong enough. BetMGM 2021 NFL Draft 1st Overall Pick Odds: +10,000

29. WR Tylan Wallace, Oklahoma State

Wallace will be in for a huge season if he stays healthy. However, it’ll be a long shot to be the No. 1 receiver taken, much less the top overall draft pick. BetMGM 2021 NFL Draft 1st Overall Pick Odds: +10,000

28. CB Shaun Wade, Ohio State

He’s going to be among the next great Ohio State defensive backs, but great Ohio State defensive backs don’t go No. 1 overall.
BetMGM 2021 NFL Draft 1st Overall Pick Odds: +6600

[lawrence-related id=511163]

27. QB Brock Purdy, Iowa State

He is a quarterback, and he is going to throw for a ton of yards, but this isn’t the class to be just a quarterback who’s going to throw for a ton of yards. BetMGM 2021 NFL Draft 1st Overall Pick Odds: +10,000

26. LB Micah Parsons, Penn State

I like his NFL game a lot more than most, but it would require something unreal for him to get into shouting distance of the top pick. At +2000, it’s not worth it as a flier.
BetMGM 2021 NFL Draft 1st Overall Pick Odds: +2000

25. RB Kylin Hill, Mississippi State

Not only is a running back for an okay team in the SEC West not going to get the yards, he’s really not going to get the yards in the Mike Leach offense. The position it too devalued. It is +20,000, but … nah.
BetMGM 2021 NFL Draft 1st Overall Pick Odds: +20,000

24. WR Jaylen Waddle, Alabama

It’s hard enough for a wide receiver to be a top pick, much less one who’ll have to share the wealth with so many other talented stars on his own team. Waddle is special, but notice how many other Alabama guys are on this list.
BetMGM 2021 NFL Draft 1st Overall Pick Odds: +5000

23. OT Jalen Mayfield, Michigan

A rising star prospect who should work his way into the first round, there’s going to be too much traffic at the position – forgetting about the quarterback talents – to earn the top pick.
BetMGM 2021 NFL Draft 1st Overall Pick Odds: +10,000

22. WR Ja’Marr Chase, LSU

His game will be more than fantastic for the NFL, but he’s not exactly the prototype wideout. We’re talking about the No. 1 overall pick in a draft with phenomenal quarterback prospects – +5000 isn’t enough to get interested. BetMGM 2021 NFL Draft 1st Overall Pick Odds: +5000

21. WR Amon-Ra St. Brown, USC

The next-level talent is there for an offense that’s going to put up insane passing numbers, But he’s still a wide receiver.
BetMGM 2021 NFL Draft 1st Overall Pick Odds: +10,000

20. WR DeVonta Smith, Alabama

The +5000 value isn’t enough to bite. A wide receiver isn’t going first, but Smith might play his way into a top 15 pick.
BetMGM 2021 NFL Draft 1st Overall Pick Odds: +5000

19. WR Justyn Ross, Clemson

As outstanding as he is, and as good as the +10,000 might look, he doesn’t have No. 1 overall pick talent. He’ll likely go around the 20.
BetMGM 2021 NFL Draft 1st Overall Pick Odds: +10,000

18. WR Rondale Moore, Purdue

The blazing speed and all-around playmaking ability could make him the first receiver off the board – think Henry Ruggs – but even at +10,000, don’t worry about him at the top spot.
BetMGM 2021 NFL Draft 1st Overall Pick Odds: +10,000

17. CB Patrick Surtain, Alabama

All the NFL tools are there, but if Jeff Okudah couldn’t get higher than the No. 3 pick … it’s not going to happen for a corner in this draft.
BetMGM 2021 NFL Draft 1st Overall Pick Odds: +5000

16. RB Chuba Hubbard, Oklahoma State

Get ready for a theme here. There’s just no value at running back anymore. Even if there is – and Hubbard should be a great pro – it’s asking for way too much to make Hubbard No. 1 overall.
BetMGM 2021 NFL Draft 1st Overall Pick Odds: +8000

15. RB Travis Etienne, Clemson

+4000 isn’t enough to get excited about him as the No. 1 overall guy. He’ll have a fantastic season, and the speed is serious, but it’s a position problem – ask D’Andre Swift and Jonathan Taylor about the value of being a great running back.
BetMGM 2021 NFL Draft 1st Overall Pick Odds: +4000

Tracking the mock draft projections for the Browns for Rounds 2-3

Lots of safeties projected at No. 41 to the Browns

After selecting Alabama offensive tackle Jedrick Wills in the first round, now the attention turns to Rounds 2 and 3 on Friday night. The mock draft projections from around the web have a clear theme, though several different players.

The consensus is the Browns will take a safety at No. 41 overall, the ninth pick in Friday night’s second round.

Draft Wire projects LSU safety Grant Delpit, who was a common projection as a first-round prospect during the early part of the college football season. Delpit was also the pick from Kyle Crabbs of The Draft Network.

A different safety, Minnesota’s Antoine Winfield Jr., is the selection from The Sporting News. In the third round, analyst Vinnie Iyer rolls with Winfield’s college teammate, WR Tyler Johnson, and UCLA CB Darnay Holmes.

NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein went safety as well, but his choice was Wills’ Alabama teammate, Xavier McKinney. His third-round projections are Boise State EDGE Curtis Weaver and UCF WR Gabriel Davis.

McKinney is also the second-round projection from Bleacher Report. He is the No. 2 available player on their big board.

At CBS, it’s Iowa defensive end A.J. Epenesa as the Browns projection at No. 41. “The Browns halt Epenesa’s fall and love his intimidating size, power, and versatility,” is the optimistic commentary.

And the ten 2020 NFL Draft prop bets that appear to be a wee bit favorable on Day Two in terms of three things, 1) value, 2) value and 3) value are …

All lines come from BetMGM.

10. Position of  LA Rams First Drafted Player

BetMGM latest line: Offense -110, Defense -110
PICK
: Offense

They need to load up with more help on the defensive line, and the back seven needs a boost, but they they have the 57th and 84th picks after the first selection at the 52. One of the star running backs – Jonathan Taylor, D’Andre Swift, JK Dobbins – will drop down to middle of the second round, but all you need is to hit the offensive side.

9. Who’ll Be Drafted Earlier, D’Andre Swift or Jonathan Taylor

BetMGM latest line: Swift -334, Taylor +250
PICK
: Jonathan Taylor

This is such a wacky draft for running backs – LSU’s Clyde Edwards-Helaire was the only one to go in the first round, and he went with the last pick – that it’s all depending on needs. Swift might be considered the No. 1 running back on the board, but Taylor is more of the workhorse. This is strictly a value play for Taylor with the +250.

[lawrence-related id=511273]

8. Position of Houston Texans First Drafted Player

BetMGM latest line: Offense +125, Defense -152
PICK
: Offense

The Texans don’t have a whole lot of early picks and has to make the most of whatever is there at the 40. Yes, they need to deal with the defensive line first – and that’s where the value should be – but some good running backs will be available and a slew of decent offensive linemen will be hanging around. They’ll likely go D, but the value is on the O.

7. Position of Buffalo Bills First Drafted Player

BetMGM latest line: Offense +125, Defense -152
PICK
: Offense

Of course mock drafts are mostly guesses no matter what, but this is really a shot in the dark. The problem is that Buffalo doesn’t really need anything except an upgrade talent level across the board – it can go best player available. It’ll likely work on its defensive line with its first pick in the draft at the 54 overall, but the value is for the pick on offense.

[lawrence-related id=511339]

6. Position of Indianapolis Colts First Drafted Player

BetMGM latest line: Offense -176, Defense +145
PICK
: Defense

The Colts can get their needs met for more receiving help when they draft again at the 44. The value is on the defensive side at the 34, and they need to help the secondary. The cornerbacks are deep, Alabama S Xavier McKinney and TCU DT Ross Blacklock have to go somewhere in the first five picks in the second round, and the value is there on the defense.

2020 Browns draft: Day 2 projections and targets

2020 Browns draft: Day 2 projections and targets for Andrew Berry and Cleveland

The Cleveland Browns go back on the clock in Round 2 on Friday night. GM Andrew Berry and the Browns hold the No. 41 pick, the 9th of the second round.

Who will be available when the Browns make that first pick? To help sort things out, I ran 10 mock drafts each at The Draft Network and Pro Football Focus in their respective draft simulators. Executing some executive judgment on the final aggregated results, I came up with this as the projection of the Friday night picks before the Browns pick:

33. Bengals – Josh Jones, OT, Houston

34. Colts – Kristian Fulton, CB, LSU

35. Lions – Marlon Davidson, DT, Auburn

36. Giants – Josh Uche, LB, Michigan

37. Patriots – Zack Baun, LB, Wisconsin

38. Panthers – Jaylon Johnson, CB, Utah

39. Dolphins – Yetur Gross-Matos, EDGE, Penn State

40. Texans – A.J. Epenesa, EDGE, Iowa

That leaves the Browns at No. 41 with a pretty favorable situation. There are two safeties still on the board who were common first-round projections in LSU’s Grant Delpit and Xavier McKinney from Alabama. Southern Illinois standout Jeremy Chinn is another option. If they want to hit linebacker, Wyoming’s Logan Wilson would be a great fit. TCU defensive tackle Ross Blacklock and his Oklahoma counterpart, Neville Gallimore, need to be considered too. There are a plethora of wide receiver candidates too.

[lawrence-related id=44779]

I settled on Xavier McKinney as the pick at No. 41. It’s an educated guess based on what I believe the Browns coaching staff is looking for in a safety.

Now to the third round, where the Browns hold two picks, No. 74 and No. 97.

At 74, it’s a good time to address the interior offensive line depth. LSU’s Lloyd Cushenberry is a great fit if he’s still on the board. He can play guard or center and is a great athlete in space. Temple center Matt Hennessy is a natural successor to JC Tretter, but he’s limited to just being a center and not a guard. If Cushenberry is available, he’s the projection.

The bounty from the Duke Johnson trade, No. 97 is a good spot to add a wide receiver. I’ll stick with a player I’ve really grown to like during the draft process in Texas A&M wide receiver Quartney Davis.

I mentioned Davis as a potential fourth-round choice for the Browns recently, but if the team really wants the intriguing prospect, they’ll probably need to pull the trigger on Friday night. He’s not ready to be a starter, but the Browns need a situational No. 3 wideout and Davis can step into that role as a rookie. I would prefer Van Jefferson from Florida but I don’t realistically think he’s still on the board at 97.

Mocking the Detroit Lions’ Day 2 draft selections

Lions Wire’s Max Gerber explores and projects what the Detroit Lions’ will do with their Day 2 draft selections in the 2020 NFL Draft.

The Detroit Lions filled a glaring need in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft by selecting Ohio State cornerback Jeffrey Okudah. In the remaining 29 picks of the first round, we saw plenty of trades and surprise picks, leaving some top-tier talent to fall to the second round.

The Lions currently have eight picks remaining in this year’s draft, three of which will likely be used tonight during the second and third rounds.

With plenty of options still on the board, here’s my prediction on who the Lions will select on Day 2:

Round 2, Pick 35: K.J. Hamler, WR, Penn State

Hamler is a true slot receiver who will immediately remind Lions fans of Golden Tate with his shifty footwork and his ability to get yards after the catch. Though he didn’t run at the Combine, he clocked a 4.36 40-yard-dash at his training facility. He has a strong initial burst off the line of scrimmage and possesses the stamina to maintain that speed.

His versatility will be an asset for offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell as well. Hamler has proven capable of being a starting slot receiver who can be used as a gadget offensive weapon in the backfield when needed. He also would be able to contribute immediately on special teams as a kick returner.

Round 3, Pick 67: Bradlee Anae, EDGE, Utah

The pass rush has been a weak point of the Detroit Lions’ defense for years. General manager Bob Quinn has not selected an EDGE rusher before the fourth round in his past four drafts. That could change with Anae.

Anae, coming off a 13-sack season at Utah, is a pure pass-rush specialist who will bring a unique skill set to Detroit’s defense. He would likely play as a JACK linebacker in Matt Patricia’s defense, but could also play the down defensive end role if needed.

Round 3, Pick 85: Lloyd Cushenberry, IOL, LSU

The Lions have a serious competition brewing at the right guard position. Currently, the Lions have seven lineman vying for that starting role. Drafting Cushenberry would put an end to all of that.

He played center throughout his career at LSU, but his size and abilities would translate easily to guard. His balance has been an issue for him, but overall he thrives in pass protection and would be an immediate upgrade at right guard. The Lions got a good look at him at the Senior Bowl, so expect him to be on their radar.

Lions fans scored the highest grades on PFF’s mock draft simulator

Lions fans scored the highest grades on PFF’s mock draft simulator

Detroit Lions fans love mock drafts. It turns out, they’re pretty good at creating them, too.

Pro Football Focus tracked the average overall grades attained by each fanbase that used the PFF mock draft simulator. The highest grade went to the fans who simulated as the Detroit Lions.

Lions fans fared third-best in trade scenarios, earning special mention for the quantity of mocks where Detroit trades back to the No. 5 pick and still lands Ohio State CB Jeff Okudah. That was also the most common Lions pick in their simulation run-throughs. Chase Young going third was second, with a lot of instances where Washington traded back to make that happen for Detroit.

2020 NFL mock draft: Final 1st-round projections with trades

Luke Easterling makes his final projections for the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, with a handful of big trades and surprise picks

The wait is nearly over, NFL fans.

In just mere hours, the 2020 NFL Draft will finally kick off, and the strangest predraft process in recent memory will crescendo in (hopefully) a glitch-free virtual experience.

Before the real action gets rolling, here’s my final attempt at projecting how the top 32 picks will shake out, including a handful of trades. This is how I think the first round might unfold, rather than the picks I would make if I had the chance.

Happy draft day, y’all. We made it.

*denotes projected trade

1. Cincinnati Bengals

Joe Burrow | QB | LSU

This has been set in stone for quite some time. No, Burrow never had any problems with the idea of playing for the Bengals, despite whatever rumors may have circulated throughout the draft process.

I also don’t buy the narrative that he can’t be successful in Cincinnati, or that the Bengals have a poor track record with drafting quarterbacks. Carson Palmer was one of the league’s best throughout his tenure in Cincy, and Andy Dalton was effective enough to be worthy of his second-round draft slot. They won the division twice with Palmer at the helm, and made five straight trips to the playoffs with Dalton.

The Bengals have been uncharacteristically aggressive in free agency this year, hoping to build a winner around their eventual franchise quarterback. Burrow is their man, and he’s got all the tools to return this team to playoff contention.
