10. Chris Evans
If there wasn’t an academic hiccup, we’d already be talking about how Chris Evans fits with his current NFL team. However, that’s not the case.
Having a year away from football is a big deal, and the man who would have been the likely starter at running back in 2019 now has to fight and claw his way into a loaded backfield.
So there’s a lot working against him. He needs to get the ball in his hands while there’s plenty of mouths to feed. He has to improve upon the production he had as the backup to Karan Higdon and De’Veon Smith in his early career. And he has to prove that he’s ready and capable despite not having taken a hit in more than a year.
Michigan assuredly will try to get the ball in his hands beyond simple handoffs, and being in Josh Gattis’ offense may be a godsend for Evans and his particular brand of capability. One thing that NFL teams will love about him is his knowledge of the game. He spends much of his off-field time…on the field. With his CE Stars youth football teams, Evans has built a surprisingly big enterprise where he’s a bona fide coach that’s imparting what he’s learned in his years on the gridiron.
Where we see him as of now?
Fourth-thru-sixth round. He’s hard to predict for the reasons we mentioned, and we’re not sure yet whether or not he’ll get the opportunities to put his best foot forward due to how many players he’s in competition with.
